Civil War (2024)
3/10
Very slow first half, action is only in the last ten minutes
14 April 2024
"Civil War" had built up a lot of anticipation with its fantastic trailers and a talented director at the helm. However, in my humble opinion the movie failed to live up to expectations, and I was disappointed

The marketing of the movie portrayed "Civil War" as an intense war movie, but the reality was far from it. The actual war sequences were limited to the last 10 minutes of the film, and even those were shot in such dim lighting that it was challenging to make out what was happening on screen.

In addition, the first hour of the film was excruciatingly dull, with little engaging content. The pacing was sluggish, and the storyline failed to capture the my attention.

One aspect that the movie attempted to highlight was the importance of journalists in war zones. However, the portrayal of these press journalists was unrealistic. They took extreme risks, putting themselves directly in harm's way for seemingly insignificant rewards. The decision to position themselves directly in the line of fire to capture photographs of the enemy makes it difficult to respect the protagonists and their choices.

Overall, despite being very excited for the movie, I found "Civil War" a disappointing experience.

Amazing Fight Scenes, Humor, and Charisma
21 March 2024
I did not see the original, so I can't compare this to the original, but I thought this was really entertaining.

I found the fight scenes really creative, with amazing fight choreography. Jake G. Was really likable and charismatic, and I found all of the characters compelling.

There were also several truly funny moments.

I also found Conor McGregor very entertaining, and this is a great job for a first feature film. I hope we can see more of him.

I liked the idea of a western movie being shot in the Florida Keys, and all that entails.

The only flaw I found was that some of the edits were so quick that it was not clear what was happening.

Keep up the great work!

A Smart, Quirky Parody Of The Entertainment Industry
12 March 2024
I was familiar with Chelsea Peretti's comedic style, so I went in expecting it to be weird, quirky, and subtle. This movie delivered just what I expected. And it was even funnier than I thought.

Keep in mind that this is a parody. It's not meant to be taken seriously. And it's very meta in the sense that it's a first-time female director writing a movie about a play directed by a first time female director. In the movie itself the overt melodrama, I believe, is supposed to be evocative of the melodrama in a southern play.

I think it has many autobiographical elements, and over all it is a great quirky tease about the entertainment industrial complex.

Keep up the great work, Chelsea, and I hope you make many more funny movies.
