The Neon Demon (2016)
IT STINKS !!
The one star is for the beautiful cinematography. Visually exciting to watch. Superb use of color, creative composition, unpredictable sequences , and excellent variety of wide, medium and close up shots.
The film is a sharp criticism of the fashion industry. It is not very erudite. In fact ir seems to be from the point of view of a naughty school boy. How can a sophisticated visual presentation of beautiful women turn into an amateur production ? The fault begins with the fact this film is a one man show with all technical jobs being done by one person like a film school project. When a film is executed by many people , viewers get the best talent in each category and a film goes through a natural push and pull of the creative process. Instead in The Neon Demon we get the voice of one childish man who produces a film that perpetuates stereotypes. The women do little acting and instead pose like Madonna from one scene to the next. His voyeurism rests on the bones of a poorly written and poorly conceived script. To keep it from being totally rubbish on the cutting room floor , the film crosses over into the horror genre. These attempts of creativity result in trite laughable moments that make me wonder is The Neon Demon supposed to be serious drama or corny comedy ?
Homeland (2011)
Best ever TV Series , Outstanding
This is the best ever TV series I have seen in a long time.
(Maybe since Bonanza, lol)
Amazing accomplishment by everyone who was a part of this series. Superb acting, cinematography, lighting, editing, sound, and directing by a myriad of very talented people. The story was just gripping from beginning to end. Thank you !
Porches and Private Eyes (2016)
Comedy about three ladies of the South
Marilyn Cupit who played Patsy Lynn was the only person who could act. She was a believable character and in my opinion did a great job. The other members of the cast were terrible and I hope were not paid. The plot was confusing and did not deliver a good story. I liked the music which added a comedic flair but at times was too much, over used or seemed to overpower the spoken words.
The writer/producer/diector was Travis Mills who despite being from Equador did seem to accomplish creating a movie with a Southern setting. Of course it helped they filmed in Mississippi ! Typical of the South, where there is a church on every corner, he chose to begin the movie with the town going to church. Next the ladies went to lunch in a restaurant located in an old house like where I used to go to in Alabama which also had a white linen tablecloth. They all drank iced sweet tea. And of course to no surprise , the film made sure to have good old Southern cheese grits. The scenery was beautiful including a big white house with columns, lush green trees and shrubs, and red pink flowers in bloom typical of Spring. A scene with pouring rain also confirmed the location. The only thing Travis Mills missed was a Confederate Flag! I did not understand why he chose one token black man to be in the story? I thought that was a major mistake.
Obviously this was a low budget movie by a novice film maker from a foreign country. However, I congratualate Mr. Mills for a noble effort.
Motives (2004)
Cheesy sexy
Thin script, average acting, dumb plot but l liked looking at Shemar Moore. For the male viewers beautiful women added spice to an amateur B movie production.
Kinda like a porn movie without the porn....watch and you will see what I mean.
Hollow Creek (2016)
A writer and an illustrator are having an affair. They escape for a,weekend getaway only to find themselves in real trouble.
Movie was very suspenseful. The story line was very intriguing. The fast pace from directing, editing and plot was like a real "page turner". There was never a dull moment.
I loved the main characters. The acting was good and believable. Steve Daron was so so handsome making me wish we could see him in more movies. Most of the men in Hollywood are not very attractive making me think there is something wrong in the gene pool. My only criticism is that the crazy characters overacted.
Perhaps reasons people did not like the film were because there were no grisly murders, no major explosions and no sex. Sadly these are the typical ingredients used to determine a successful film.
I found the movie exciting and highly recommend it.
