Dobaaraa (2022)
Pretty engaging!!
"Dobaaraa" is pretty engaging.
A nice thriller, full of surprises and unpredictability. It is rightly being called a mind teaser.
It is not the type of movie in which you can take some loo or coffee breaks in between. You have to be attentive throughout or you will lose the connection.
The time travel that goes back and forth hooks you brilliantly and throughout it keeps solving the unsolved puzzles.
It answers every question and in the end comes out as a satisfying journey.
The performances by Taapsee Pannu, Pavail Gulati, Saswata Chatterjee and Rahul Bhatt add power to the movie.
Loved it and recommend it...
Darna Mana Hai (2003)
A fairly engaging one...
I still get surprised with the fact that this movie was a clear flop at the box office , but I know the period in which it was released, when it was a struggle for movies to succeed.
The stories are engaging. The top ones are - "No Smoking" and "Homework" which had great performances by Saif, Boman and Raghuvir Yadav.
The story "Apples" does not appeal. The one with Nana and Vivek is okay, while "Stop/Move" though is predictable, shines because of Aftab.
It was a good experiment at that time , but it didn't work in theaters.
But yes, it got its due later on the small screens.
An average movie but definitely an engaging one!!
Uljhan (1975)
A good movie with remarkable performances
Why I loved this movie, it because of its execution and performances. It has a good ensemble of actors like Sanjeev Kumar, Ashok Kumar, Farida Jalal, Aruna Israni, Sulakshna Pandit and Asrani and they all just give apt performances.
It is in the genre of mystery. Though it is not very difficult to predict things, but the way the story goes forward is really engaging. You will remain hooked up, even if you have watched it before. While the whole settings create good tension , the end is very touching and emotional.
The movie brings us close to family values and so I feel it is very relevant even after more than 4 decades of its release.
The song "Apne Jeevan ki Uljhan Ko" is a class apart .....in the voices of both Kishore and Lata
A movie to be watched!!
Marte Dam Tak (1987)
Star Power...
This movie was a major success. It was the first from the association of Mehul Kumar and Raj Kumar. They then went on to make hits like Jungbaaz and Tirangaa together.
The storyline is somehow formula driven but still has some elements of curiosity and unpredictability.
What works is the performances- Specially by Raj Kumar and Govinda. While Raj Kumar is in top form, Govinda is also very promising.
And then there is a line up of villains- Shakti Kapoor, Om Puri and Kulbhushan Kharbanda.
The songs - Chodenge na hum tera saath is still popular and the dance number- Muqabla is really a watch
Such storylines and execution are generally not in trend today , but when it was released it was loved by audience making it a super hit.
Then there were actors, who along with their charm , used to give a performance that should appeal to audience. Most of the times, they have risen above the script.
One such legend was Raj Kumar...The Great Star!!
Aag Hi Aag (1987)
A Nice Entertainer!!
I have heard a lot about the success of this movie and so I always wanted to watch it , which I did very recently through a nice copy on YouTube.
The movie has a story line which looks predictable now, but it is definitely engaging. The good part is that it is a multistarrrer, still each actor has got a very good screenspace.
The actors have performed well lead by Dharmendra and Shatrughan Sinha , this is the debut movie of Chunky Pandey and he also is apt in his character.
With the title the movie looks like a high action movie full of violence , but the.movie has a story line that will appeal to families too.
The songs are good and do not break the pace.
As movie making has evolved, the taste for such movies is not there, but in the 1980's these scripts used to pull audience to theaters without much promotions , on the sheer power of stars and entertainment.
Newton (2017)
Claps for the great work
Newton's fourth law states that - " Every Indian whether he likes or doesn't like watching movies should go and watch Newton."
Hats off to the thinking, structuring and courage to make a movie on the woes of conducting elections in India in the manner which is authentic, researched, thought provoking and entertaining.
It has Rajkumar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi , Raghuveer yadav and Sanjay Mishra in it. Among all these Anjali Patil as the Booth level officer is a delight to watch too.
If everyone in India will perform his duty like Newton, the country will progress on its own.
Claps for the great work!!
Bhoomi (2017)
Wtach it for Dutt!!
Regarding "Bhoomi" , I first thought to write about the movie , but Sanjay Dutt has overpowered me. The lion, the star, the actor is back and what a performance. His larger than life aura has magnified and the actor in him is back with the same conviction. Baba is outstanding , the style, the charisma is now on the screens again to make you go into the same hysteria.
Rape is disturbing and I hope the filmmakers should be sensible in portraying it on screen. This year movies like " Kaabil" and "Mom" have handled it very sensibly but here we see the execution going clichéd and stereotypic. There is no wrong in presenting things in raw and brutal way but a few things should better be presented in a subtle manner rather than screaming loud. The agony and pain should be made understood and felt rather than showing it. The movie hits hard on few issues but overall the treatment is the same old and to some extent does not match the way bollywood is evolving. Aditi is good, Shekhar Suman is fine but Sharad Kelkar as the stereotypical villain of the 80s is too loud and overdramatic. Sanjay Dutt however rises above the script and keeps you engrossed throughout.
Watch it for Dutt!!
