KARWAAN : A Trip of Beginners to Enter into Bollywood
18 September 2018
It is hard not to like a road trip movie when it happened across our beautiful southern part of India and specially in "God's Own Heaven". A story by Bejoy Nambiar of two dead body getting swapped is enormously intriguing at the the beginning. IT company with tagline 'Don't complain, unemployment feels a lot worse' employee Avinash played by Dulquer Salmaan is a typical 'depressed, not happy with the job that killed my dreams' type. Shaukat played by Irrfan Khan was most lively character you'll see in this year. Shaukat's humour and Irrfan's improvisation skill made the character so charming, perky and straight forward with some cultural bounded thoughts. He had some childhood issues that'll be mentioned at the climax scene while they all three character realizes that their dads weren't so good as they expected maybe. So this third character is Tanya portrayed by internet sensation Mithila Palkar is a teenage with modern thoughts and happy with her life still she is a bit of a irresponsible. I have to mention that she forgot the news about her grandma's death. Her mother Tahira played by Amala Akkieni was introduced almost at the climax part. But her presence and importance both was there throughout the whole film with her little cellphone calls. There was a clear subtext that Avinash was having a feeling for Tahira but unfortunately it was gone when they met each other. Director Akarsh Khurana successfully managed to give importance every other smaller to smallest characters. That was the lovely part about this movie afterall. The cinematography by Avinash Arun was remarkable. His painter mind was able to capture the beauty of the road. Some excellent views with these ordinary character will keep your eyes to screen the whole time. But the editing part wasn't good at all. There were some unnecessary cuts in a conversations. The scene at a medical store Tanya and Avinash was fighting over a pregnancy test kit and the he exits realizes that Tanya is just a mirror image of his younger age back in college when he had a dream about photography. This scene was a good example of editing and screenplay. But there were so many sloppy moments about screenplay. Dialogues were humorous most of the time when it came to Shaukat but it could've been so better by award winner Hussain Dalal. They seemed most of the time contrived. Anurag Saikia's north east Indian melody with south Indian scenery makes few you feel nostalgic and down to earth sometimes. Prateek Kuhad with his unique indie folk music makes the perfect combination. As always album with Arijit Singh is always worth listening. With Slow Cheetah's rap song that escape scene looked like a piece of Malayalam movie.

Finally we can say that Karwaan has Irrfan but it's not a "Piku". This movie sends us great lesson about how and why our parents are so insecure about our dreams. Maybe It's just a cyclic process. So if you haven't watched it yet then just watch it and come back and read again my review.
