MI-5: Thou Shalt Not Kill (2002)
Season 1, Episode 1

Good show
16 February 2024
I like the show so far and look forward to watching more. I was surprised by the reviewer who said that Mary Kane had a terrible American accent. As an American, I can tell you that she sounds exactly like many people in the south. I thought she sounded, pretty good.

I think the plot moves along very well, and there are some interesting characters. Overall, I rated it an eight out of ten, and I hope to raise that reading as the show goes on. Now to wonder how long it will take me to get through all eighty-six episodes. I guess next time I shouldn't start so late watching this. But I'm looking forward to it.

Shetland: Episode #8.1 (2023)
Season 8, Episode 1

The show survives very well without Jimmy Perez
2 December 2023
While I loved Jimmy Perez, I think they have done a fantastic job of bringing in a new character and refreshing the show. To be honest, the last couple of seasons of Shetland were a bit depressing. Jimmy seemed to be so angry all the time, and not looking at the evidence rationally. I really like the character of Calder and how she is working with Tosh. And by especially love that she is originally from Shetland. The dynamics between her and some of the other locals is very interesting.

There is a lot that can happen with this show and I think it is moving in the right direction. I'm very excited by the first episode!

The Long Call: Episode #1.1 (2021)
Season 1, Episode 1

Great show with a lot of nuances
12 November 2023
I am really liking this series a lot so far. It seems far more realistic than Vera, which I just got finished binge watching. And the main character is also much nicer to his subordinates than Vera ever was. She could be a right pill at times. But getting back to this show, the cinematography is lovely, the acting is excellent, and the writing is quite good.

I'm enjoying the plot a lot. It's a bit complicated, but I think it all makes sense. The characters are very interesting and I know there are a lot of back stories there that will hopefully come out.

I'm really looking forward to the rest of this season.

Vera: Vital Signs (2022)
Season 11, Episode 5
8/10
Same plots over and over
7 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I've been binge watching Vera for the last several weeks, and it seems like most of the recent shows have had young adults as the killers. Someone's daughter, son, brother, sister. What is up with that? I'm getting tired of seeing these teenagers being arrested. Why doesn't Vera tell these kids that in many cases, they'll probably get off with a light sentence?

For example, in last week's show, the daughter who grabbed the bag that accidentally pulled her mom down the steps will not be charged with first-degree murder. Yes, she did hide the murder and that's probably the worst thing she did. But I would imagine she would get off with a very light sentence.

I'm also getting a little tired of Aiden playing the tough guy. And I really wish Vera would not keep taking other peoples food. I still like the show, and will continue to watch it, but these minor annoyances are getting to be a little irksome.

Don't they ever do autopsies?
26 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I really like this episode, I have to wonder why the police don't ever do an autopsy. Then they would've found out how the victim died, which could've changed the whole premise of the case. I realize that this is set in the mid-50s but autopsies have been going back to the 1600s. Surely in a case like this, it would've been done.

Nomadland (2020)

Very powerful movie
9 May 2021
I don't see how anyone could watch this movie and not be completely mesmerized and stunned by its beauty and story. Francis McDormand gives an incredible performance, as always, but it was the rest of the cast that really gave this movie its believability and vision. It was a movie that I was drawn into, and that rarely happens. It was brilliantly directed and was enhanced by the incredible cinematography. Do yourself a favor and see this movie. Anyone with an ounce of creativity, lust for travel, and sensitivity, will be drawn into its spell.

Life in Pieces (2015–2019)

Gets better every week
6 December 2015
I really enjoyed the pilot but am enjoying this show even more as it progresses. I haven't watched a "laugh-out-loud" sitcom for awhile until this show - last week I almost doubled over during some of the segments. The entire cast is brilliant and pulls it off every week. I never knew Colin Hanks could be that funny! And I'm so happy to see Zoe Lister-Jones (who I loved in Whitney) and Thomas Sadosky (wonderful in Newsroom). Dan Bakkedahl is absolutely brilliant as are Dianne Weist and James Brolin. Even the kids are good, and I'm usually not enamored of child actors.

I look forward to each new episode, and really hope that it picks up an audience that will stick with it.
