Bakjwi (2009)
Woman derails plot. Should've been a noir.
I'll keep it brief. The lead man lets a woman in on a secret but she is a dealbreaker because she has a mind of her own who turns out to be petty. If this was ever hinted, the film could work. It should've been obvious to the audience that she's a femme fatale whose middle name is trouble yet the man confided in her for being smitten with her. No dice here. At one point the movie takes a resemblance to A Place in the Sun but the police investigation becomes an afterthought. Pacing gets bogged down during the middle act for comic horror exposition. As if the director actually wanted to make a sitcom where an amiable vampire has different misadventures each episode, trying to find the balance between his morals and vampiric lifestyle. I guess the ending is fine, I just wish the director took a better route to get there. Thirst is too faulty to recommend. It's not fun watching this man regretting a hastily made, unsound judgement because he's not inept enough and I can't feel sorry for him because his tragedy wasn't inevitable.
See The Handmaiden if you still haven't. There Park Abi takes another western story and adapts it to Korea superlatively. Prizzi's Honor is another fun romp which features a duo in love who must work it out.
