Landscape with Invisible Hand (2023)
I LOVED this
It was weird, and strange but also very human. The aliens were adorably awkward, especially when the visiting 'father' cant work the tv remote.
I found it very creative and unique, without being one of those 'different' or 'creative' movies which sometimes get rave reviews, but to me are just a bunch of boring disjointed crazy scenes with no real storyline or at least no storyline I can engage with. This was weird and strange and cute, and I could imagine the frustration of the people living in this world, but also see some hope for an eventual improvement of the world in general and relationship between the humans and the aliens.
One of those movies where when it ends I am wishing it was a tv series instead, so there were more episodes I could watch.
I love how they did the aliens, kinda cute ugly, like a big square bum, with strangely cute pad feet things...
World War II: From the Frontlines (2023)
As someone who often finds old ww2 footage hard to engage with I liked this
Ive read many books about WW2 and feel I have a reasonable laymans understanding of it, but I find the old news footage and war footage hard to engage with due to the poor quality of film at the time and the lack of colour etc.
I was surprised how real this felt when I started watching it. In particular a scene in I think episode 1, which showed the german enthusiasm for all of the drama and parades and pomp/circumstance of the nazi party events at the beginning of the war. I felt like it gave me a human face and reality to the things I have read about how the german people were frustrated by their situation and it madd you kind of understand how they might have brought into all of the things Hitler was promising. As someone who like most people considers the holocaust a horrific and shameful part of our global history, it made me think...what if I were there? Would I have been any better than the average german who clearly thought, at the start, at least, that Adolf Hitler was the best thing since sliced bread?
Anyway i found this series made the war feel almost modern day, the colour and close ups of soldiers faces make you feel like you were either watching a much more recently made movie, or were watching social media. It made it much more real for me
I came across this page as i was googling to see what they did with the video footage, obviously they colorised it, but it looks like they also ddid things to make it more clear and more sharply focused, as if it was filmed by more modern cameras..
