Valley of the Giants (1938)
Good Western/ Adventure Movie
The plot is interesting, the actors are sympathetic and they look good on the screen. There are fights, shootings, shots of beautiful nature. I think this movie is worth reaching for. Best Western of 1938 with "Gold is where you find it" and "The Texans". The film was made in Technicolor and visually looks nice for the year of production.
The Plainsman (1936)
Class A , Best Western Before Stagecoach Came
Great western. Excellent actors, big scale and nice shooter sequences and fights. Gary Cooper and Jean Arthur were great as a movie duet here. Other actors also were good. Interestingly that Anthony Quinn made his film debut in the cinema in this film. It has to be clearly stated that this movie is a mix of western - we have cowboys, indians , US Cavalry soldiers , Wild Bill Hickock, Buffalo Bill Cody and even Abraham Lincoln! There is a lot of action in the film, the plot is interesting, but of course it has its naive elements like showing the battle over Little Big Horn soon after the end of American Civil War in order to the story would be connected. I think you can forgive this element because the movie is very good. Can be seen on the picture that the director Cecil De Mille put in this work so much amount of money , De Mille who was a specialist in big movie shows. We can see in the screen the great charisma of Gary Cooper outstanding western legend. Ending of this film is very interesting especially if someone did not know before how Wild Bill Hickock ended. The film works very well both as a western and an adventure film. I recommend this movie honestly because it is great!
