Elitists
3 November 2021
Why are liberals always such elitists? "This guy's a truck driver, what does he know?" Why do people living in that NYC or LAX or SFO bubble think the second they stray out of their city, the whole country is nothing but mindless rubes? Do they believe living in one of those cities give them magical powers?

Meh
10 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This entire second season was just "meh". It was only six episodes for some stupid reason. Nothing happened. People yelled a lot, got mad, talked and talked, and in the end you could skip this entire season and replace it with about a three sentence summary. I eventually just started fast forwarding a lot and skimming over boring crap. Plus, they started putting flashbacks at the beginning of every episode, a sure sign of a dying show.

Nice Action Flick
4 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
But I gotta wonder....where does a mining company come up with so many goons willing to commit murder on their command? I mean seriously, the willingness to kill someone isn't something most people have. But apparently when companies are constantly portrayed as evil by hollywood, the writers just assume everyone who works for big company is a murderer.

And since we know those writers are never original, we know they believe in the power of the "super duper bad guy" who never dies the first time you try to kill him. Or the second or third time, either. He usually takes several tries, and normally will only die at the very end, at the very last second, when all hope is lost, and with a final dramatic one-liner from the hero. "Freeze this, loser!" or "Sink this, meanie!"

It started great but got more and more ridiculous as it went on. What they call tension at the end, I call drawing it out to monumental proportions.

A Definite Feel Good Movie

Very uplifting. No need to worry about bad stuff happening, it's just an escape into the early days of blues and jazz. Great songs by Satchmo and Billie Holiday and a bunch more.

Aubrey Plaza Shines
9 February 2021
This episode was about Aubrey Plaza. She was beautiful in every scene. She wore a slinky, tight fitting dress, she smiled just right, and has the biggest, most beautiful eyes. There was some talking about something, and people running around doing stuff, maybe a bomb or something. But then Aubrey Plaza lit up the screen. 10 stars!

Not that great
12 January 2021
I'm not sure what movie the other reviewers were watching but this one wasn't "profound" or "terrific" or even very good. It was dull, boring, not a slow burn, not creepy, just...there. It was just there, and now it's not.

Why Is Everyone so Keen on Mantan Moreland
6 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
One of the main reasons is because he is more relatable to modern viewers than the white actors, who play it straight the whole time. Moreland brings the needed dialogue, spices things up, and adds the laughs.

This movie would seem to have everything required for a good old fashioned black and white horror movie. A Caribbean island with zombies. An old spooky mansion. A graveyard, secret passages, and voodoo. However, there is a bizarre incongruity about it all. To find such formal manor house manors in the middle of a jungle, not far from America but very far from Britain seems odd. The black servants below stairs in the kitchen, a huge house than happens to have a room available that's already made up, dressing for dinner. When he told his manservant to get their bags, I was thinking, "Bags? What bags? You mean he has to dig through the wreckage of the crashed plane?" But they apparently got their bags complete with pajamas and dressing gown - everything a good manor house guest in England should have.

It would have been better if it could have been a typical 1940s style house in the Caribbean, instead of an old mansion. However, Mantan Moreland saved the day. He's the every man, he's comical, talkative, and a bit flirtatious with the girl. He was far more interesting to watch than the other two, who were straight arrows with little to interest the viewers.

Something Suspicious
19 October 2020
If you listen to Zachary's voice, you will realize the truth. It sounds like a computer generated voice. It's not quite perfect, they haven't yet perfected the technology to make Zachary truly appear human. It's my belief that he is a robot controlled by J.J. Abrams.

It seems fitting that this new In Search Of series should be narrated by Spock, just like the original. The problem was they didn't have a new Spock, hence the reason for creating this cyborg.

Someday they may create actors that can actually appear human and show human emotions. For now, they are restricted to playing Vulcans and narrating shows where a robotic voice is actually a benefit.

It's all about dictators
19 October 2020
All the TWC shows are nothing but evil dictators. Don't they think we are sick of that yet? Aren't they sick of trotting out evil dictators over and over and over and over and over again? They are all the governor, they are all the same. We don't want a zombie show that is nothing but evil dictators and their henchmen doing evil things. We want to see a zombie show about zombies.

Just more dictators...
19 October 2020
Why are all these TWC shows about evil dictators? Why not have a zombie show about...oh, I don't know...zombies? Maybe?

We want to see them fight zombies and try to rebuild the world and once and for all tell us what the heck caused the zombie outbreak in the first place! But no, all we have is one evil dictator after another on all three TWC shows. They are all just rehashes of the governor, one of the worst story arcs in TV history.

The problem isn't zombies...it's WHITE MEN!
19 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Evil white men are the real problem here. The good and noble non-white men, and the good and noble downtrodden women are the unsung heroes. We must never forget that when we make movies and tv shows.

It almost felt cheesy when she picked up the gun and showed off her skill. We knew it was going to happen. The man couldn't hit the plate because he's evil and white and male. We knew what would happen the instant she picked up the gun. And the instant we saw their prison was a person of color we knew he was truly innocent.

And the people in charge are always evil, the guards, the nobles, the police, all of them. Why? Because they are in charge.

I honestly don't think justice and honesty existed in the world until very recent times, and only in specific western countries. In ye olden days, everyone was crooked and corrupt. It's a wonder our species made it this far.

What do you do when police are actually the culprits?
18 October 2020
In this first episode, we see the inadequacy and in ability of the police to do anything towards finding little Madeleine. They stated plainly that it's not a crime for a person to disappear, and refused to investigate. Within the first few hours they had to be called twice before they agreed to respond, before that they refused to send even a single officer to the scene.

I would never go to a country like Portugal, where crime is rampant, kidnappings are so common, and police look the other way.

Who knows what evil...
18 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
...lurks in the hearts of men.

In this case, we found out. The evil that allowed this guy to murder not only his wife, but two toddlers. Wow. That's just mind-boggling.

This is the story of a controlling and dominating woman who wanted the perfect life, she wanted her husband to be a very specific way, and she criticized him constantly and told him he wasn't man enough, didn't have the balls, etc. To her credit, towards the end she did start to realize how she was treating him and apparently was trying to reconcile her own behavior and make things work. I seriously doubt, however, that she would really have gone as far as it would take (and do what the average person would do) and truly change.

Unfortunately for her, she never realized until it was too late the kind of person she had married. It's easy to say she pushed him too far, and we'll never know what their last conversation was like. But he had it in him to do unspeakable things.

As for the death penalty, I can't know what it's like to face life in prison, but if I had done something that horrible I wouldn't want to live. How could she have known what he was capable of? It's horrific.

To the Lake (I) (2019–2022)
7/10
The Title Says it All
15 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
When they say "To the Lake", they literally mean an entire series about people trying to get to the lake. You would think that would be just the first episode, and then other stuff happens once they get there. But no, getting to the lake is what this show is about.

The first few episodes are just a game of "Three Car Monte", as they swap around, drive, swap around, things happen, swap around in their three cars. After that, there's a lot of driving and arguing and driving.

Of course the military is brought in as the quintessential bad guys. Every time there is a plague or pandemic, the military always comes in and slaughters everyone, sick or not. This has never happened in history, you can check. There have been plagues recorded in history since the Roman times and we never see any historical record of the military just killing people willie-nillie. But movie-makers the world over must honestly believe this is what happens. And it's so non-sensical. They never kill their own, but they kill all civilians, like once you put a uniform on you suddenly have a right to live. And they never have a conscience. They never say, "Hey, maybe we shouldn't murder these women and children", they all just do it like it's nothing...just because they have that uniform on.

The show isn't bad, it's just a whole lot of nothing to get to the good parts here and there. You will come to hate some characters that seem way over-the-top. Maybe Russia is full of folks who automatically kill or imprison anyone they see driving down the road, or knocking on their door, or wandering through the woods. I've never been to Russia, but I wouldn't think they appreciate this portrayal of them.

Sarah Conners is why we watched this
13 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Imagine, just when Trump becomes president and promises to build the wall, that's when suddenly the fate of the world depends on a Mexican having to cross the border illegally. Who could have seen that coming.

But seriously, this feud between the characters of Grace and Sarah Conners doesn't make a whole lot of sense, and there is zero chance we would ever side against Sarah Conners. So that is the first mistake they made with this movie. We want to like both of them, we want them to team up from the start. But given a choice, Grace doesn't stand a chance in gaining our trust or affection against the woman who has been part of this for nearly 40 years. So Grace's smart-a** quips and threats only work against her.

With all the jumping back and forth in time this franchise has done, it's hard to surprise us anymore with weird new timelines. But killing off John Conners as a kid from the very start seems very incongruous and certainly unwanted. What we wanted was an ending where all the good guys survive somehow. How about Arnold absorbing just enough of the REV-9 to heal himself, same with Grace, and STILL change the past so John Conner doesn't die.

We now understand the Butterfly Effect probably isn't real. In most cases throughout history, too many forces are at play to rely on any single instance of an event. If Skynet doesn't happen, the forces that brought it about will still bring about something similar. If Hitler had been killed as a baby, the forces working in Europe would probably still have given rise to something or someone else equally perverse and evil.

So that part of the movie we can accept. We just want it on our own terms, giving us the ending we hope for. It's science fiction for crying out loud, you can write it anyway you want...why not write it to satisfy the audience?

Bosch: Some Measure of Justice (2020)
Season 6, Episode 10

Some loose threads in the last season
9 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I just binged 60 episodes of this great show. One thing that bugs me is how the daughter interacts with her father. One minute you think they're going to have a meaningful conversation, the next she runs to her room and shuts the door like a 12 year old. She acts like she wants to learn about what her father does, but only through the eyes of Money Chandler. Why not listen to her father? In 60 episodes I don't recall her ever doing a ride-along.

Season six felt forced in many ways. The whole sovereign citizen arc seemed unnatural and inserted for no real reason. First of all, they try to equate libertarians with terrorists? Wow, libertarians are about the most benign group out there. If recent events have told us anything, the left (progressives, anarchists, etc) are actively doing what would be called terroristic activity if it were any other group. Second, neo-nazis are hardly a strong force in America, and no one in any political party is sympathetic with them; yet they are trotted out by hollywood anytime a bad-guy is needed. Plus the ending of that arc was so blasé. Deus ex machina-ish, It was tacked on to the end of the show, with very little tension, and it just sort of fizzled out. After all the buildup for 10 episodes? That's all they had?

But the biggest loose thread was Billets being accused of sexual harassment, and then the sergeant making another accusation...and then nothing. We have to wait a year and a half to see season seven start with "13 months later", and a brief explanation of how it turned out without actually showing us.

And yes, I think it will be late 2021 before we see season seven. Apparently no one in hollywood can work during the virus. Too bad hollywood isn't run by school children, they seem to be the only group of people in America we are willing to shove together in close contact on buses and in classrooms without masks.

Not bad but too long

At least 30 minutes too long. They should have wrapped it up much sooner instead of dragging everything out. Every scene seemed to just go on forever. Also, I'm not a fan of movies about crying women and manipulative men.

Not bad but predictable
15 September 2020
I don't think it's a spoiler to say that whatever think might happen in this movie does happen. The script is common hollywood fare. There are huge chunks of filler that really mean nothing, they are just meant to gap in until you get to the interesting parts in the middle. Then after the interesting parts, the rest is boilerplate.

Horrible writing, horrible ideas
13 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Just as the first episode of season 1 highlighted what slimy filth the media is, the first episode of season 2 is meant to highlight what slimy filth lawyers are. They will knowingly take a case where the defendant is guilty just to show off their crooked skills at abusing an already corrupt system, and get a guilty, murdering pedophile out of jail.

If this is what season 2 is going to be all about, I won't be watching it. If writers suck so much at coming up with new scripts, I would never even considering lowering my standards to watch the filth they spew out.

Warning: Spoilers
After watching two seasons of The Break, I have learned five things. 1) A lot of cops are crooked and, just like in real life, they often get away with it, 2) Deep down, all girls are lesbians, 3) The French do not yet have the technology to track cell phones, 4) Being the love interest of this main character will always turn out bad, and 5) The French have been secretly growing their own Steve Buscemi for years. They cloned him from skin scraping they got when Buscemi was in high school. They call their Buscemi Karim Barras.
