Great writing, great acting, amazing action set-pieces, great everything. I'm blown away by how mature Tom Holland was in this movie, will forever remain as the greatest Spidey film.

Control (2019 Video Game)
9/10
Welcome to the Oldest House!
6 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Control tells us the story of Jesse Faden, a woman with a mysterious past, who is searching for answers and her lost brother. To do this she goes to the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC), a clandestine organization of the United States government in charge of the containment, study and control of supernatural phenomena. What Jesse does not know is that when she gets there, she will become the new director of the agency after the death of the former director and that the agency was invaded by a threat from another world called the "Hiss".

Now without going into detail I can tell you that, although the main story is short (it only covers 10 chapters), it is worth playing it and it is accompanied by good cinematics, visuals and exploration, which is one of my favorite aspects.

(EXPLORATION)

Called the Oldest House, exploring the building is a creepy experience, its dark atmosphere with red tones, the floating people, voices speaking in the background, possessed enemies and twisted structures, are some of the many details that will make you want to explore all its corners. You will find a lot to do with the main and secondary missions, in addition you will be able to find a collection of collectibles such as documents, files, videos and audios that will tie you with the events that occurred inside the building and their unique details. And if you still lack the desire, exploration will reward you with boxes containing pistol upgrades and personal upgrades that can be found everywhere on the map.

(GAMEPLAY)

Now speaking a little more about the mechanics, I can say that they have many that are very excellent and there are others that cause discomfort. To start the best: Jesse has supernatural abilities, which you can acquire as you progress through the game. From throwing objects to controlling your enemies you will never tire of combining these to make combat a dynamic one. Abilities are acquired by doing missions related to power items, which are a type of altered item from another dimension known as the astral plane. You will know more if you play it. In combat you will combine these abilities with the service pistol, a power item that can only be wielded by the FBC director. Now, the most interesting thing about the gun is that it is literally alive and in this case it chooses you. The same 4 shooting modes, of which you can equip 2 and switch simultaneously while fighting. To unlock the modes you will have to find the necessary materials and have enough virtual coins to make the modifications. Just in case, this gun doesn't need to be conventionally reloaded so you won't have to worry about that.

One of the skills you unlock at first is throwing items, and this is where the environment is a big factor. The environment of this game is one of the most satisfying that I have had to explore, virtually everything can be destroyed and you can use it in your favor or against enemies. There is no greater satisfaction than seeing the massive destruction you have left after combat with enemies or a boss. From the enemies you will find a great variety of them, from security guards, military and regular people who were possessed by the Hiss. Bosses for their part, although rare, will challenge your abilities. And if you want an even bigger challenge, you can explore the secondary bosses that appear in the secondary missions.

To save the game you will have to go to the different control points scattered around the map, there you can use your skill points, fast travel to other locations that you have already cleared and build improvements. You also get interesting animation with some of the control points, almost simulating Doctor Strange scenes.

And as a small detail, in the game there are puzzles that will give you a different challenge if you are interested in this type of gameplay. Almost none are part of the main narrative so you don't have to worry if it's not your style.

(THE NEGATIVE)

Definitely no game is perfect and here in certain aspects that could detract from your experience.

The things you cannot control will be the performance of the game when you are in combat where there are many enemies at the same time. And is that the aesthetics and combat effects of Control are ambitious, but come to the decrease in performance and frame rate. This defect does not occur on PC but on base consoles.

Although the mechanics of saving the game through specific points has been seen in other games, such as Horizon Zero Dawn and Jedi Fallen Order, if you die you will have to repeat some previous battles and travel distances that you had traveled before just because there is no other point where to save the game. There are no manual saves either.

Another mechanic that could be frustrating is not being able to control the level of difficulty. The game is inconsistent with the level of challenge it proposes and you may find combat repetitive on some levels, while others challenge you in a way that seems almost impossible to defeat.

Exploring, as I said before, is one of my favorite aspects of the game, but using the map is frustrating since you can't navigate it and you can spend hours circling around to get to a specific place. It is better if you use fast travel or search for a guide on the internet if you do not want to waste much time.

Finally, the narrative around Jesse is interesting for the most part, but there are definitely characters that feel underdeveloped and the length of the game doesn't help at all. If all the characters were at the level of Ahti, the janitor, it would definitely be a better game.

What is the end point of the game?

Control is a game of exploration, mystery, and action. You arrive with a mission to find your lost brother, but you have the responsibility to solve what has happened inside the FBC. You will visit other dimensions, you will find power objects, you will use your abilities and you will fight against threats to take Control. If this theme interests you and you have played any of the other Remedy titles or you just want an unconventional experience with a delicacy of missions to do and places to explore, I recommend this game.

Resident Evil 4: Slow-Mo Action Sequences
4 June 2020
This movie has no rhyme or reason and after watching 3 yesterday I can only say this was a huge fall off. None of the side characters are compelling or interesting and the action sequences are just boring as F since they abuse the slow motion in every single one. If you enjoy ridiculous and slow action and Milla Jocovich then this movie is for you. Otherwise is just an even more dumbed down version of RE, no suspense, no good action, nothing to show for. Last 20 minutes were "decent" but doesn't make up for an hour that I lost of my life watching the rest. Score: 3.6/10

The better one out of the first 3
3 June 2020
I've been watching the movies in succession and I can totally say that this was the best one out of the first 3. While the plot is still a bit generic, the action sequences, visual style and pacing are very improved. Alice looked badass and this time around I believed it. Claire thrown in the mix is kind of an "appeal" move more than her significance in the movie itself but its still pretty cool. Finally, the foreshadowing is very obvious in almost every scene so that kind of throws the shock effect out of the window. Score: 7.5/10

This is pure comedy (The first one was way better)
2 June 2020
Even by 2004 standards the action sequences on this movie are ridiculous, also the plot and writing are horrible and the pace is nasty really. Nothing really makes sense, what a disservice to the franchise, they didn't take anything seriously and it shows. Score: 3/10

The debut of Resident Evil on the big screen
1 June 2020
A movie from 2002 that delivers a decent horror/suspense experience. The eerie feel of the lab and the red queen are great. The writing is kind of dull, the action is ridiculous and the CGI is obviously very dated but I think it's worth a watch for nostalgia or if you haven't watched the series ever. Score: 6.5/10

Beyond: Two Souls (2013 Video Game)

A movie made into a video game
21 January 2020
Beyond Two Souls tells the story of Jodie, a girl with telekinetic abilities, from little age to grown up. Charged with emotion and drama the story is very compelling. Mechanically speaking the game is linear with very little to space to roam and wonder around but the world it built looks amazing. The game has an option to play it not chronologically which is the best in my opinion as it balances action packed scenes with quieter puzzle games and dialogue. If you want a direct comparison just go watch Stranger Things cause this story is so similar it might make you think that it was written by the same person.

Best of the bunch
20 January 2020
For the goals and audience it strives for, this movie stands out from the trilogy. Humor is on point, action sequences (although unrealistic of course) are great and the story is cohesive (and includes a twist).

What more can you ask for?

X2 (2003)

A model of what the X-Men movies should've been
5 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Currently rewatching all X-Men films and this definitely takes a top spot on my list. It builds upon what X1 introduced us to and goes deeper with some characters, specially Wolverine. Nightcrawler's introduction was great and very helpful for later sequences. Also, Magneto had more meaningful action, same with Mystique. Stryker was a decent villain.

I'll leave a list of some things I liked about the movie and some thing it fixed from X1.

What X2 did well:
  • Charles being used and manipulated, exposing his weaknesses
  • Gave depth to characters stories, specially Wolverine
  • Nightcrawler's addition and action sequence at the start
  • Stryker controlling mutants plot
  • Storm's power being used more
  • Pyro

What X2 fixed from X1:
  • Less Rogue screen time and dialogue (tho still one too many screams)
  • Choreography* in fighting scenes (X1 ones were baaaaaad)
  • No Sabretooth (YAY)
  • Longer movie time
  • No more bad CGI
  • Jean Grey's flirting, kinda seemed staged in the X1, feels more fluent in X2

So overall, it did a great job on being the stronghold for the franchise establishment. It deserves an 8.5/10

Not worth watching a 2nd time
30 May 2019
I think this movie tried to do too much at once and failed at every single aspect. Wolverine's backstory with the wars and all that was awesome, would've loved to see more of that but unfortunately it isn't there.

Main villain was confusing to say the least, did he want an army, control the mutants or eliminate them? I am a little lost here. Also, there's all sort of continuity problems, cause after seeing First Class, I don't understand how Emma Frost went backwards in age and Charles is walking. Also, who is this "Deadpool"...

Anyways, will not bother too much here, there is nothing that stands out about this movie. Only good thing was Logan and even he was constrained by this bad narrative.

Refreshing take on X-Men Franchise
29 May 2019
Just saw X-Men: First Class for the first time and gotta say, it's a refreshing movie. They did a great job with telling the stories of Magneto and Charles. In regard to those characters it struck the right tones at the right moments and fleshed out their arguments really well. Also sets up the humans vs. mutants plot in a compelling way. On the other hand, Villain was bland and Mystique flirting all over the place was a little annoying but this is a solid 8/10 for me.

An amazing side of the story of a figure that touched the hearts of a lot of chicagoans. Trough the trials and the tribulations, it's inspiring to see how far he has come and still hungry.

Bird Box (2018)

Pretty pointless
10 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I guess as a lot of people hyped up the movie because of Sandra Bullock's appearance or something.

I'm not mad at the fact that I sat through 2 hours of scenes leading to nothing but what's with this plot?

The evil in this movie is an ESSENCE (that we have no idea where it came from or how it got there)?? Meaning it can't defeated??? Aight, what's next? A bunch of characters just randomly getting killed and then Sandra getting trough a river just to arrive to a school of the blind, IN THE MIDDLE OF A FOREST.

Look, the quality and scenery of this movie was there but the plot is soooo predictable and tbh faulty of logic, also pretty unoriginal. Every character and scene is just a means to an end, it's pretty boring.

Oh, I also forgot to mention that because the directors decided to show the scenes for the river at the start of the movie you pretty much know everything that's going to happen, that's how pointless this movie is.

I guess it could've been better
9 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not going to lie, I liked the movie, it was a refreshing view to see Scott Eastwood be joined by John Boyega to save the world, once again, from the Kaiju monsters.

Although plot it's indeed very similar to the first movie, there were a few twists here and there that I didn't expect to happen like the Jaegers being the attackers and Newt being the villain instead of the chinese Girl. I was also surprised how well handled the character represented by Cailee Spaeny (Amara Namani) was, though its was also very 'cliche'.

I took 3 stars away because there was a couple of big jumps in the movie that I just straight up noticed. Also, some pointless sequences and lack of character development. Not to mention the motivational speeches, cause what a military movie without them haha. Anyways that's pretty much it, enjoy the movie for what it is.

Incredibles 2 (2018)

Been waiting a looooong time
23 December 2018
I found the movie to be awesome, although confused at the first scene (since the villain escaped), I enjoyed this well put together title. I like how the developed the characters to changing the roles, it can be very controversial, but it gave it a different taste. Also visually engaging, packed with action scenes; loved the idea of adding new superheroes and Jack jack was all over the place. Only noted flaw is that sometimes there is not enough scene development and it seems to jump from one place to the other.

Overall, I think it makes justise to the 14 years we waited, could be disappointing if you were waiting for a longer runtime. On that note though, this movie had a full year of production cut and it seems that it left a couple of loose strings to bring home a third installment.

Bumblebee (I) (2018)

Good but doesn't match with previous films
23 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Bumblebee drives of the Transformers franchise as a movie focused on the emotional bond between humans and robots. It adds a good touch to the action packed franchise but I personally felt some parts of the movie were rushed. Also, there are some parts that something very 'ridiculous' (not possible) happens. John Cena doesn't play a very big role either.

Overall it's good but, again, I personally felt it was a little rushed and I know it will not appeal to the audience expecting big fights and explosions.

P.S

The Megatron cameo was spectacular.

What...?
26 December 2017
Messy and rushed development, big plot holes, awkward humor, nonsensical scenes and epic failure are all the household names of this new and not so "Star Wars" movie.

The movie tries to cover a lot of things rapidly which ends up confusing you and completely leaving you in a blank space. It is a disgrace to see how important characters just fadeaway, traded for a couple of "humor" scenes the predictable "fairy tale" ending delivered to you by Disney. Do not recommend for anybody who has watched the previous trilogies as it will leave you in big disappointment and utter regret.

I guess business is business and as long as the title says "Star Wars" this is as far from it as you will get.

I could go more in-depth but there is enough said on here and almost everywhere. This film is a total disconnection from what Star Wars was and how it normally goes, change is good and with the time gap there is an acceptance for it up to certain point. This goes way beyond change, it is just a flat out mess of a movie in which you will not find a lot of moments to be excited or emotional about. It's just one big MEH.
