The Batman (2022)
Gritty new take I loved
Excelllent new take on a story that is really reaching its saturation point, as far as remakes go. I'm old enough to have been around for all the versions, and yet this one is my fav. Kudos to all for some new twists and the darker, grittier look. LOVED the darker Bruce, LOVED the less cartoonish therefore much scarier villains, (Is there any thing scarier than a normal looking psychopath??? And I never even recognized Colin Farrel) and to my complete surprise I really loved Robert Pattinson. After the twilight drivel I was convinced he couldn't act, turned out I was wrong. Run time is a little long, and there are a couple of big leaps that defy logic (but it is a superhero movie) but that's really my only criticism. My only regret is that I missed this one in theater. Total enjoyment!
Snow White and the Huntsman (2012)
Great concept that fails to deliver
Bad, as in epically, wooden "acting" from lead actress coupled with zero chemistry with her lead love interest kills what should have been a great take on an old story. Could have been so good with one casting difference. Gets a 3 from me for visuals and finding a new twist. Also loved Charlize's performance as well as Chris's and the dwarves...but be careful whom you choose to go up against Ms Theron as being the fairest... ;)
My Octopus Teacher (2020)
Incredible
Incredibly moving, gorgeous cinematography featuring one of my favorite animals. And yet still, I cried. What an amazing experience and beautiful message.
Portals to Hell (2019)
Newest ghost show a bit of alright
Bobby Mackey show was great. Love Katrina, love Jack, need to take out all the other people in the room and focus more on the two hosts. And for the love of Mike, those who left a comment about the size of the hosts need to go take a long look at what's wrong in their life to make them think it's ok to refer to others in that manner! Miss Paranormal Lockdown, always enjoyed Jacks show, this one has some kinks to work out but overall enjoyable.
Aquaman (2018)
Very enjoyable overall
Had no expectations whatsoever coming in to this movie- hadn't even seen a trailer. So I was delightfully surprised to be completely entertained for most of the movie. The underwater CGI was MUCH better than I expected, cinematography was gorgeous and hallelujah for a female lead capable of taking care of herself, kicking a** like the queen she is. Enjoyed most of the main character portrayals too. Momoa was charming and smoldering, Heard was gorgeous and acted her part very well- maybe Willem Defoe was a bit of the odd man out but still did his job like a pro, and everyone else was solid as well. Sure the dialogue was spotty in places and some of the scenes ludicrous, but no worse than many if not most of the superhero movies dominating the screens lately. But for the love of mike, would someone please tell them to quit making these movies so lengthy?? (Although also gotta say that I was surprised how short it actually felt, as opposed to the last marvel offering that I squirmed through most of ...jmo though) Lighten up, don't expect oscar worthy material and enjoy the ride. It's great fun!
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)
Are.You.KIDDING.Me?
In brief: Dinosaurs? Awesome, as always. People dealing with dinosaurs? Ridiculous. "Plot"? LUDICROUS!! What a sad wheeze this franchise has become, in spite of the dino's. PLEASE STOP....just, stop. Took an amazing concept and have literally, completely, soiled it.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
Meh
Not that great- WAY too long, too unengaging and too many plot holes-just too much period. I'm notorious for crying in movies;didn't even sniffle, and there were many "deaths" of my fav characters. "Poignant" scenes were all flat, I didn't buy into any of them at all. Always a bad sign when I'm checking my watch and realizing I still have to sit there for 45 more minutes- didn't even stay for the bonus at the end. Yawn! Knew I waited for a reason, and I'm sorry I saw this- the individual movies are light years better- would still pay to see Black Panther/ Captain America/ Wonder Woman again, and I've seen them multiple times already. Jmo, but meh. Pretty disappointed.
