Dracula (2020)
Claes Bang deserved better in the end. Literally.
I'm only giving this 7/10 for the two good episodes, the third one was such as disappointment after the period setting in which Dracula thrived in. It seems to be a common issue with Steven Moffat written shows, the beginnings have such promise, only to be let down by unsatisfying endings.
It's as though he Gatiss thought of the twist for episode 3 and wanted to keep it in for the sake of it being different to past Dracula adaptions, by having it set in the modern day.
Yet, this does not take away from the good episodes that precede it, in which Dracula shines as a suave but bloodthirsty creature. There are standout scenes in eps 1 & 2 that really utilise the horror of the character and shouldn't be undermined by ep 3.
The Witcher (2019)
Poorly structured and not inviting for new comers.
The fantasy genre is perhaps my favourite from across film, tv and books so when I saw a new fantasy series by Netflix I thought I'd Witcher a go. I thought that if I liked the series then there was a book series that I could get into afterwards.
However, the series was so poorly executed. As someone new to the whole world I was so confused for a majority of it, the changing timelines with no title cards, the characters who never seem to age that doesn't help in that regard, the overall cheap look of the show and the general poor writing. One key thing that fantasy series need to get right is to aid new comers into their world so that the viewers/readers get used to it, this doesn't happen here. It's all over the place with writing, characters and narratives.
Why the showrunner thought using Memento as a basis for how to structure the show I'll neber know.
And while I like Henry Cavill, his voice in the series is just bad. Instead of sounding natural it sounds like a character in that world who is attempting to sound tougher by putting that voice on.
Watchmen (2019)
Pretenously written by Lindelof
I don't know how Damon Lindelof managed to write this while simultaneously patting himself on the back and jerking himself off at the same time.
I did not like what he did with the existing Watchmen characters and though the overall was boring and slow for the most part, a part from some scene scattered throughout.
