A Very British Christmas (2019)
It had potential but they didn't fulfil the promise from the beginning of the film
There's some nice scenery but i tried to ignore the very obvious flaws in this, being from England and this being set in England with English actors, it's quite difficult to suspend my disbelief when it comes to the accents. Especially the English actress playing in American. I think the little girl has been to the Peaky Blinders School of Acting, no five-year-old would call an adult sweetheart.
I feel really disappointed that the master plan they were hatching earlier on in the film didn't seem to happen, and I feel like I wasted my time watching it to the end. I would've liked to have seen a bit more scenery. It was fine.
The A List (2018)
Intrigue and irritation.
The first thing is people need to stop blaming Netflix for starting this because they didn't make the first series, it's by the BBC, hence why it's full of 30-year-old teenagers using out of date British catchphrases. I know I'm not the target audience for this, but it did get me hooked in the first few episodes with a feeling that something bad will happen. I enjoy hating almost all of the characters..
The episodes are short and the scenery is really nice, and although I slightly hate it I do want to know what's going to happen, but I feel like there are too many episodes left for me to bother finishing it. Spare time is too precious to spend on the remaining 7 episodes of series 1.
Christmas in Paris (2019)
Dreadful. The only positives for this is scenery and the Christmas decorations
I got excited for the title. Admittedly I missed the beginning of this film but that's not normally a problem for a hallmark style Christmas romance. I tried to persevere, I haven't laughed, or felt any sympathy, and some of the accents were terrible, I seem to have missed any of Paris that might have been in it, and there is nothing engaging about the storyline. The only bonuses are the beautiful scenery and the lovely Christmas decorations in the houses, also loved the main character's outfits. I think the 10 out of 10 reviews are fake, they all appear at the same time. Someone was very busy.
Keep Breathing (2022)
Started well and by the last two I could see what was coming and it wasn't what I wanted
I enjoyed the first couple of episodes but towards the end I had a horrible feeling I'd been conned by the early storyline and wasted my time, and it turns out I was right.
There were some good parts, don't get me wrong, but it was overtaken by the other storyline that took over eventually.
Two episodes were so dull that I forwarded through the flashbacks to just see the current scenes.
I can't really recommend watching this as it's likely to disappoint most people who watch it for the story they thought it would be. If you have a few hours to kill then it won't take long to get through the six episodes but if you've got something else in mind go with that instead.
Das Privileg (2022)
Terrible
I know some people in the reviews have said they loved it, and we did stick with it even though we were done after half an hour. All over the place and it didn't match the summary we were given by Netflix.
Malevolent (2018)
It was like there was a chunk of tension missing
I feel like they really missed out on building up the audience anxiety. I didn't feel tense, I didn't feel that something terrible was going to happen to them at any moment even though the film revolves around that theme.
We nearly quit, but with half an hour to go we finished it, and I was no better off.
We thought this was going to be good, can't go wrong with Florence. I thought when Celia Imrie popped up things would improve 100%. Nope.
We have no idea why two English actors were playing Americans, there was no big explanation of this.
The beginning of the film mentioned it was it in 1986. The outfits and make up felt inconsistent with the 80s. There was no reason to tell us it was 1986.
Hrútar (2015)
Mislead that it was a dark comedy
This came recommended but was also made out to be a dark comedy. I just spent the whole film waiting for the comedy element. There are a couple of moments of delight but this is certainly not something I found darkly funny. I'd have enjoyed it more if I had not been waiting for the comedy to kick in.
Fun Mom Dinner (2017)
Don't bother with this.
50 minutes in and nothing has really happened. It's so tame and predictable that I guess the name suits it perfectly. It has 30 minutes left to do something unexpected but I'm not hopeful.
Edit: nothing happened. I'm struggling to understand how the people who starred in it thought it was great script.
The Nun (2018)
Time I could've spent on a better film
This was terrible. At the start I thought I was going to be terrified. I was very wrong.
Slasher (2016)
Series 1. Awful awful acting
This was dreadful most of the time. We stuck with it as it would throw in twists and we needed to see how it ended, but the acting was so awful.
White Lines (2020)
Don't take it too seriously
This isn't too heavy and although there are some grim moments it's pretty entertaining.
Don't take it too seriously, just watch it and enjoy the escape from lockdown with a bit of sunshine.
Horrible Bosses 2 (2014)
I laughed at the outtakes...
It was about half an hour before i laughed. Maybe I should've rewatched the first one beforehand as i couldn't remember the back stories. It was ok but like others have said, it was an unnecessary sequel.
The Finest Hours (2016)
Really wanted to enjoy it
I really wanted to enjoy this film, didn't care what big name actors were in it, however I've just turned it off and deleted it because the actors were driving me nuts. Also a couple of bits that were just rubbish finished it for me.
Snatched (2017)
Terrible.
Not sure why I finished it. I don't think I can name any good bits.
Goldie's acting is standard Goldie so that gets the only star.
Midsommar (2019)
Good but some disturbing scenes
I was surprised by this film as i thought it was going to be different to this. It wasn't as good as I hoped but it was still pretty intense and I enjoyed it.
However, I am not afraid of gore and horror but there were a few shocking scenes that really got to me and others that I just brushed off. If you see something coming that you think will bother you then look away and enjoy the rest of the film.
Why Him? (2016)
Lightweight comedy
I only watched this because I love Bryan Cranston, however I found myself laughing at a lot of stuff and I would watch it again another time.
There's a lot of swearing and some comedy scenes that might not be to everyone's taste...
It's great for a light-hearted filler when you don't want to watch anything that requires concentration.
Fractured (2019)
Pretty dull, it may keep you guessing but not me.
I heard good things when this first came on Netflix, by the time we decided to watch it I'd heard terrible things about it.
We gave it a chance and within the first two minutes my boyfriend had called it, we had also come up with all the other angles that this was going to go down and we just sat there waiting to find out which one it will be. It was the first.
If my boyfriend had not been watching it too I would've turned it off after the first five minutes anyway because I could not stand the characters.
Mother! (2017)
Couldn't wait for it to be over
Do not watch this if you do not want to be stressed for two hours.
I couldn't wait for this to be finished, but had to see it through to the end because it might have been worth it. I'm sure lots of folk will enjoy is but it's definitely not the type of story I expected at all. Not getting that two hours back...
An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn (2018)
I liked it but also didn't
By the end I did kind of like it but also thought it was very needy, and I will definitely not watch it again.
The atmosphere, outfits and scenery were very cool but the storyline was lacking. It was one of those "nothing much happened" films.
Rings (2017)
It's a no from me.
I wasn't expecting a masterpiece because I prefer the Japanese version of the original Ring, but even treating it as a loosely standalone film it just didn't have the level of fear and terror I was hoping for.
The Super (2017)
Looked like it was going to be good...
I had picked holes in many many things in the first 10 minutes, that should've been a warning sign to quit while we were ahead. It was tense and there was a good atmosphere but it all unravelled
La forêt (2017)
Gripped to the end even if it was a bit flimsy
I could see lots of things coming throughout, but I still enjoyed the episodes to the point where I really looked forward to watching the next one rather than just putting them on to pass the time.
Lots of flimsy points but this didn't ruin it for me. Also the bonus of the lush scenery!
Turist (2014)
The most awkward film I've ever watched.
I'm not saying don't watch it, just be ready to experience the awkwardness and a lot of hysterical shouting throughout. And don't expect a high octane disaster like the title and pictures suggest.
The whole thing is uncomfortable and awkward for two hours. There are also lots of random and unexplained events, but they were just playing out what happens on normal family holiday with no explanation or lead-up.
It didn't help that I couldn't stand most of the cast of the film. I don't know if this was the intention when they made it or if it's just me!
Evil Genius: The True Story of America's Most Diabolical Bank Heist (2018)
Warning - no warning of graphic scenes
I knew about this story but was not expecting to see graphic scenes without a warning at the start.
