Help (2021 TV Movie)
8/10
Outstanding performance
20 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Outstanding acting, moving story, felt too real.

Considering this is a tv movie told from one person's perspective you could expect mediocre acting. But Jodie Comer went above and beyond to ensure that there is none of that.

The story features young woman starting a job as a carer just before the COVID outbrake. It shows struggles what a lot of similar facilities in various countries (mine included) had to go through; e.g. Not enough supplies, not enough workers, too long shifts (to the point of exhaustion). It honestly feels frighteningly real.

However, I have no idea what happened to writing in the 3rd act. If the movie ended before that I would say without any doubt that it deserves a solid 10.

Really fun
17 January 2022
Ok, so I've just binge watched the whole season and I've got one question - why? I generally hate cringy/akward shows. However, I've got sucked anyway.

Well, if it's your genre, you have to watch it. If it's not, you can at least try it because there is a good chance you'll end up like me. After all it is quite humourous.

Wolf Like Me (2022– )

Not a fantasy cliche i was expecting
14 January 2022
I've started watching this show because I saw a fantasy genre series with a promising yet cliche plot.

Well, it's anything but that. It's a mix of drama with humour, often dark humour (similar to the type of humour usually provided by British shows) which is perfectly delivered by characters whose odd behavior gives this series an edge. Furthermore, storyline is pretty unpredictable maybe except for the last episode where you can tell from the start what major plot twist is just waiting to happen.

I haven't watched many Australian series but when I do I always seem to like it. So give it a chance and watch at least 3 episodes before you make your mind about it.

Great detective drama show
25 July 2021
Nice story, a little bit of cliche from time to time but not too much. Actually, it reminds me of Lucifer with a big difference - Lucifer is revived, Rosewood stays cancelled with a pretty huge cliffhanger. Anyways, it's worth watching even though it got cancelled after season 2. I wish it weren't.

Regular fantasy drama
25 April 2021
I usually start a review by saying that this is not just a fairly tale, superhero series, etc. Well, the Irregulars is just a fantasy series about teenagers fighting people with mysterious powers. Oh, and from some point there is Sherlock in the game.

Without being cynical I would say that this show is nothing unique. There is moderately interesting screenplay, soapy moment from time to time and even a few dialogs about real life problems. But that just it. I even get an impression that there was an attempt to make it more interesting by adding dubstep music while showing the streets of old London. However, it turned out to be rather ludicrous which made it a bit funny.

Anyways, if you like fantasy and there is nothing interesting to watch, you might give it a shot. It's not great but it's also not so terrible.

Shadow and Bone (2021–2023)
10/10
Beautiful fantasy world
23 April 2021
I'm after first 2 episodes and I can feel it's going to be a great journey. First of all Shadow and Bone is based on a book which usually guarantees interesting story placed in a huge fantasy world. The rest depends on cast, screenplay, well, on the whole crew.

Anyways, so far they're doing magnificent job. Impressive special effects with lots of costumes and places accompanied by nice acting can really take you far away. Furthermore, this world is not just some fairy tale. It's full of dangers from mythical creatures as well as from other people.

I hope it gets better with every episode, because so far I'm truly satisfied.

// edit after watching first season I was not wrong. The show is just great. I even changed my rating from 8 to 10 because Shadow and Bone definitely deserves it.

Zero (2021)

An OK drama series
21 April 2021
I've started watching Zero because of plot summary when I read something about invisible man. I've expected growing superhero kind of show. I was pleasantly surprised.

Zero is more of a drama series about poor neighbourhood struggling with challenges presented by the society or more precise rich society. Bonds of community, family and finally friendship are involved in this battle which makes it a little bit emotional.

Anyway, if you think that Zero is only some fantasy superhero show, you should know that it is much more.

Mysterious adult fantasy
20 April 2021
I'm after first two episodes and I can truly say that it's quite interesting. This show can offer good acting, complex plot with unexpected twists, superhuman motive followed by racist behavior and of course great deal of mystery. All that placed in a world without modern technology makes it well balanced and worth watching.

Fresh, funny, just great
16 April 2021
I certainly did not expect this show to be so entertaining. I think satirical side of it got to me the most. Interesting story, unusual approach, pretty good acting, amazing screenplay. I recommend it for everyone who loves satirical comedy.

Unfortunately, it was cancelled after just one season. I guess Netflix prefers common shows over fresh ones. Typical...

Another wonderful show cancelled
28 February 2021
This show had potential. There was nothing wrong with it; it keeps in suspense; it has simple but sufficient special effects; it is controversial especially to religious people without distance. Despite all these good things it was cancelled.

Well, I believe that if it was created now (2021) and was properly advertised it would have been popular. Maybe I am wrong but I love fantasy and hate it that great shows like this are being so easily cancelled.

Just ok
24 February 2021
It has a great pilot but after that everything is going a few notches down. Maybe not instantly but starting from about half of the season one it definitely is.

I cannot really tell if it is low budget show or if the director is messing up. There are scenes that are just bizarre. I would even say that it is CW show if I didn't know any better, because it sure feels like that.

However, it has also some well-designed moments which made it watchable. I think that it could have evolved in season two. Well, we are not going to find out since it was cancelled but still, just a thought.

Suspenseful and really unpredictable show
12 January 2021
What I value the most in shows is unpredictability. There is no point watching something if you can tell what is going to happen next. Suffice it to say, Revenge is anything but this. It takes you to the world full of plotting, deception, hate and yet combines it with friendship, love, family. Furthermore, there is no black and white characters. Everything takes action in grey area where answer to the question who is the bad guy is not so simple. I wish there were more such a great shows like this one.

Helstrom (2020)
9/10
Unpredictable, cynical, fresh
22 October 2020
The only reason I've added this show to my watch list is that I saw potential series about exorcisms, demons, etc. I can assure you that it is not what I expected.

Sure, there are demons, there are exorcisms, but they are nothing like these stereotypical cross and holy water things that TV has been feeding us over the years. This show is something completely different with a lot of humor, horror, drama and cynicism all combined together.

However, first season is an introduction into the world of Helstrom and what really matters is how this show will evolve. So I am honestly looking forward to watching the next season.

Perception (2012–2015)

Glimpse of psychology mixed with crime
20 October 2020
The show is procedural, where every episode means another criminal case. One of the main characters is brilliant professor who is struggling with his demons while solving crimes. Perception shows us that nothing in the world is white and black even though lots of people assumes so. However, not everything in this show is so mundane. There are elements of comedy, awkwardness, drama and even a glimpse of human psychology. All of this makes it worth watching in spite of cancelling after third season.

Unusual, intriguing, just great
11 October 2020
Let me just start with saying that I have no idea why this show was cancelled.

The show is truly enjoyable and yet procedural which is really hard to achieve these days. It is 2020 now so even though it had been created before Lucifer, I can honestly say that I feel Lucifer vibes while watching it.

I would recommend watching the first season even though there is no continuation. It won't leave you heart broken but just contemplating what could have happened.

Better Than Us (2018–2019)
9/10
One of the best sci-fi series
29 September 2020
I've rejected this show so many times while searching for something to watch just because it's Russian. Now I see that was a tremendous mistake.

It's fair to say that Better Than Us is the first Russian series I truly liked. Well, maybe except for Masha and the Bear but it doesn't really count, does it?

Anyway this show can offer you a story about family, friendship, love, but also corruption, hate, loss, revenge and much more. It's certainly not some mediocre sci-fi with overwhelming amount of special effects. Give it a try. I'm sure it will surprise you.

Omniscient (2020)

Worth watching sci-fi
24 September 2020
Calling this sci-fi is an understatement. If u take away all the impossible elements like hacking complex systems in a blink of an eye, then the pictured world becomes pretty realistic (considering only technical difficulties, not the political ones).

There is rapid action mixed with mild mystery but also friendship, family, loss, hard choices and a lot more. All of this carried by constantly developing main character.

I've noticed that many reviews are criticizing technical aspects, so I would like to respond to that...

"They don't even have AR glasses or even electric bikes" - AR is a trend. It might be developed further in the future but it does not have to be. Huge part of what AR offers can be and is currently displayed on screen so why bother? About electric bikes... The way I see it bikes were showed as an alternative method of transportation, the healthy one. So I don't really see the problem here.

"The drones aren't even 360 degrees view" - The drones are very little though. Furthermore, their task is to watch one person, not everything around that person.

"the so called star programmer was only typing with only 2 fingers" - I have not noticed it but I really tried not to look after I saw some of the hacking stuff. Typing / hacking moments were way off. However, "normal people" probably would not have noticed that.

In general low budget (or not spending much money on tweaking every technical aspect) does not severely affect the show.

Pennyworth is worth your time!
7 October 2019
Suspenseful moments, a little bit of romance, action, fighting scenes, plot twists. All of this placed in 1930s England which makes the series even more interesting considering the fact that London slang appears from time to time.

I hope there will be second season. However, in case it was cancelled, I would regret nothing.

Low budget, high potential
5 October 2019
Low budget, starts with some poor acting moments but it evolves. You can literally notice that cast is learning episode by episode. So in the end it takes you to the pretty original fantasy world with satisfying touch.

Just perfect

This show is great. Seasons 1 and 2 are pretty consistent. Then comes s3 involving much more romance which might be a little overwhelming. However, after Netflix picked up the show it hopped back on track.
