Robin Hood (2018)

Lots of fun!

I dont understand the younger generation at all and I'm guessing that's who did all the really bad reviews. No one makes original movies any more, everything is just the same thing retold and not very well. Maybe I'm in a minority but I really enjoyed this movie. I didn't take it too seriously, I wasn't looking for historically accurate costumes, architecture or even events. I wanted some purely harmless fun and this film delivers. Who says it's supposed to be serious? I loked the way it took modern war and action movies and made it medieval. I liked the mixture of old and new. I love Taron and I think he's great in this movie. Errol Flynn was the original Robin and I spent many a saturday morning watching his superbly flamboyant movies. This is just someone trying to be a bit original in a slew of same old same old movies. Dont take it seriously have a couple of hours off our boring covid existence and have some fun!! Honestly guys you are all taking yourselves too seriously especially these days, movies are for escapism and this movie totally delivers on this. And for the record, Guy Ritchie's King Arthur is awesome too and Russell Crowe is my favourite Robin! Oh yeah and you are going on about how good Taron is in Kingsman!!! That's not total escapism at all is it? That movie is completely serious and true to life too! Please just watch movies for what they are......fun.

Vikingane (2016–2020)

Absolutely must watch!
18 November 2020
We were on a viking/medieval hunt on Netflix and stumbled upon this little gem. It shows viking life in the eighth century but with many modern similarities. It is extremely funny, I honestly can't remember the last time I laughed out loud watching any comedy film or TV. The characters are fantastic, the humour sarcastic, ironic, dark, everything you could wish for. I think the accents for us British viewers add to the delight of this series. It doesn't take itself too seriously and was exceptionally well written, produced and acted. Extra kudos to them all for doing it twice in their own language and English. I hate dubbed programming it totally ruins what you are trying to watch. I only wish there were more. Absolutely fantastic from start to finish.

Dunkirk (2017)

Arty, unrealistic, waste of time
27 March 2018
I cannot believe the score this movie has. I know it is very arty with great cinematography and that is good, but I really expected more from Nolan. There was no sense of reality for the suffering that went on for those poor men on that beach or for the mass mobilisation of civilians to try and save them. Filmmakers these days have a moral and ethical obligation to tell these stories accurately, especially as very soon we will have lost all our veterans. Too many people believe everything that Hollywood portrays, the least they could do is be accurate. Please do not watch the movie.

Refreshingly different
10 March 2018
I will admit to never really being the greatest Rob Lowe fan, but he may just have changed my mind. It is not just about paranormal/legends/urban myths but much more. It is about family, adventure, having fun, discovery and relationships. It is far too short and if they do make more I hope they increase the length. The relationship between Rob and his sons is a joy to watch as well as a healthy amount of scepticism. The late night showing is obvious due to the subject matter and language. I for one hope there is a second series where both the investigations and familial relationships can be developed more. It doesn't take itself seriously like other shows of the same kind and is a breath of fresh air in a very stale genre.
