Wild Mountain Thyme (2020)
It is what it is
Some bits of dialogue were strange but I never felt like stopping the movie. I just enjoy Emily Blunt even with a not so great Irish accent. I enjoyed the music and the scenery.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
Underwhelming
The script for this is what really killed it for me. A lot of the dialogue was just off. It's not enough to have popular actors and cgi, the story needs to be interesting or it's just an expensive snorefest.
What Is a Woman? (2022)
An adult female
The fact that we live in a world where a question like this is not only asked but people, especially many women in this documentary, can't seem to be able to answer is mind blowing. Great documentary. The truth sets people free.
Knives Out (2019)
Extremely Overhyped
While this was entertaining it honestly doesn't deserve all the hype it got. Don't go in expecting your socks to be knocked off. It had it's moments but it wasn't the most amazing thing ever. The whodunit Agathie Christie style trope of interviewing the suspects in a huge house after what appears to be a murder. Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt. Was it the maid with the candlestick in the library? It started slow but it picked up a bit eventually. Some of it actually came off really silly and ridiculous but Ana De Armas was great and the ending wasn't entirely underwhelming but this isn't the best whodunnit, also some of these characters were uneccesary.
Anatomy of a Scandal (2022)
Michelle Dockery, need I say more?
I love a good legal drama, I love British dramas and I love me some Michelle Dockery so naturally I jumped on this like James Whitenhouse on his staff member. Can we talk about how good the directing and editing of this was. I loved those moments where
certain characters bumped into each other and the way you could feel the tension. I liked the effect they did when Whitehouse found out he was accused of a serious crime.
I thought the plot twist was great even if folks found it to be unbelievable. Who cares? It's not like the plot twist was them all flying off onto a magic carpet in a musical. Before the plot twist I actually was starting to wonder where this was going. In the first few episodes I didn't like the flashbacks. There was a slow fade out in the last 10 minutes of the final episode and I was like I hope this isn't how they ended it but then it faded in again and I feel we got the ending that was needed for those characters. For anyone saying the ending was bad what on earth were you expecting to happen?
Unbroken (2014)
A gem of a film
This film is so inspirational and moving. I've watched this I think three times and it has moved me everytime. It's amazing that this is based on a true story.
An Education (2009)
An Education
I have watched this so many times that I find myself repeating the lines during the film. I think this was my first introduction to Carey Mulligan. No matter how many times I've watched this I always enjoy it. I don't know why but something about Jenny just resonates with me. Maybe it's her wit, her love of Paris and French music, I don't know. Maybe because I can relate to being a schoolgirl once upon a time who has had many older men ride up beside me as I walked from school. Thank God I didn't become a "ruined woman". I love the look of this film, the music and the cast are chef's kiss. When I first watched this I had no idea who Rosamund Pike was now it's so interesting seeing her play this role. This is definitely a fave of mine.
Uncharted (2022)
Boring
I'm unfamiliar with the game so I didn't go in with certain expectations I guess besides hoping it would be enjoyable. The dialogue is just cheesy to me. I wonder if these movies are just not great or as I grow older I'm looking for someting with more grit with better writing. I get bored real fast with films these days. If it's not making any sense I'm out.
Death on the Nile (2022)
Pretty but Predictable and Boring.
Pretty people, pretty sets. I know some folks complained about the cgi but I though the film was visually nice. This was really predictable though. I figured out who was going to die, who did it and the motive in the first half of the film and after that I started to get sleepy. This movie would put melatonin to sleep. I didn't like any of the characters and the story was just boring. Nearly 2 hours was just too long to tell this boring story no matter how it looked. If you watched Murder on the Orient Express and hated it rest assured you will feel the same about this.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
I tried to like this
And that's the problem. If you have to try and like a show or the only reason you keep watching is because you're hoping it will get better then you're just wasting your time. I really loved the Star Trek series as a child and was hoping this would make me feel the same way but it did not. It's slow and boring and I just couldn't like any of the characters and the story is just meh.
WeCrashed (2022)
For the love of gah
Can Anne not do strange voices or accents ever please? That made her character annoying. This is just not an interesting story. A pair of weirdo narcissistic lovers, ugh. Others have already said this but it bears repeating, this is boring. I watched the first episode and I can't believe i did. Guys skip this.
Turning Red (2022)
Don't let your children watch things like this
I couldn't even go past maybe 10 minutes of this. Animation has stopped being for children or pretty much anyone who isn't drinking the pc Koolaid. I'm over it. I haven't watched any of these Disney or Pixar animated films in years because of it. In basically the first 10 minutes the little girl is encouraging rebelling against your parents. Don't let her first few sentences fool ya, this movie is not for kids. If you care about what shapes your children's beliefs I would suggest avoiding this. Also, parents really should check out these animated things first to see if it's suitable for them.
Our House (2022)
Our House, Our Neighbours, Our Lovers, Our Lies
Started off like it was going to be another great British thriller but ended very dissapointing. A pair of adulterers being deceived by their new lovers. Why on earth did I watch this? No "good guys" in my opinion. No one wins. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Skip it for sure. There are better thrillers out there.
Suspicion (2022)
I love a good british thriller too but not this one
The cast and acting is good but the story is really uninteresting. This started off like it would go somewhere but it gradually just grew boring to me. There are sooooo many British thrillers that are way better. I would recommend skipping this one.
Being the Ricardos (2021)
Not good
Even though Nicole and Javier are really good actors this was terribly miscasted. The entire time all I saw was Nicole and Javier, they just never dissapeared behnd the characters they're playing especially Nicole and she's the one playing Lucy for goodness sake. It's obvious that a lot of money went into this production but I don't think it was worth it with this script and cast and I think it had too much cussing. This was honestly off-putting from the first 5 minutes. Terrible script and bad casting.
The 355 (2022)
International Spice Girls?
When I saw Diane Kruger and Jessica Chastain were in this I got excited. I love when Diane speaks German or French in films and both she and Jessica have had perfomances in other films I have thoroughly enjoyed but this wasn't one of those. I got bored and my mind drifted away during the movie. Whenever I see fight scenes with actressess and male actors it's just never realistic in my eyes. These women are really tiny and throwing around men twice their size and weight, lol, that's very cartoonish, (i'm a female by the way incase anyone thinks only a guy would say that, nope you're wrong). I think this could have been better if it had more comedy instead of wanting us to take it as a serious action movie. I wouldn't recommend this.
Lucy and Desi (2022)
Informative and moving
This was a well put together documentary on both Lucy and Desi. I've seen lots of things about Lucille Ball so I was familiar with some of what was shared in this but I didn't know much about Desi and his life in Cuba or his start in the entertainment industry. I think it was great that their children were involved in the making of this. There were some surprises about them and great home footage. Anyone who wants to learn more about the both of them and have a look at what went on behind the scenes of "I love Lucy" then this is the documentary to watch.
Robin Roberts Presents: Mahalia (2021)
I don't think Mahalia would have liked this
It seems with lifetime their biopics are usally missing some important components. The script for this wasn't good. Some of the casting was just bad. While Danielle Brooks' singing was pretty good her acting was not. There were, however, some moments in the performances that she did certain things that reminded me of watching Mahalia but those moments were few and very far between in this film. I also wish they had picked more well known Mahalia songs. Danielle can sing but her tone honestly wasn't close to Mahalia's even though at moments she did a pretty good job. There were also a lot of pc sounding speeches that did not reflect Mahalia's beliefs but i think the beliefs of the writers and producers of this film.
This was boring but i kept it on thinking maybe it would be more intersting but it wasn't. The actor playing MLK was so dull my goodness, lol. Some of the wigs they had on Danielle were on point though with what we've seen Mahalia wear before, I gotta say that. Wadrobe did a pretty decent job. That Aretha movie was better than this and I couldn't even finish watching that. If you're looking for a biopic like Ray or the Jacksons please know that this aint it. This is definitely forgettable.
Lakewood (2021)
Run, run, run away from this movie
If you love to sit and watch people jog and talk on their cellphone forever then this is the "movie" for you my dear. Had I been jogging along side Naomi I would have at least given this 3 stars for the calories I would burn but no one is dumb enough to go jogging by themselves in those rapey woods. Ya'll save yourselves time and skip this.
The Gilded Age (2022)
So far, so dull
When I saw that this was written, produced, and created by Julian Fellowes with Kelli O'hara, Audra McDonald and Christine Barinski in the cast I couldn't believe it. All of that is worth the price of admission alone. Unfortunately this show is so slow and really dull. From an American perspective talking about society, money, and arranged marriages all the time isn't nearly as interesting as when the Brits do it. There can never be another Downton, not saying this was trying to be but I've read some comparisons and this is nothing like Downton in my opinion. Downton Abbey wasn't boring, this is. I love period dramas so much I created an entire list with my favourites with almost a hundred titles. I say that to say that I know that most start of very slow as they introduce the characters and you eventually see where the story is going then eventually they take off and never let you down but this period drama is just boring. None of the characters are likeable or interesting to me and I'm 5 epsiodes in. Will this get better?
American Underdog (2021)
So glad I gave this a chance
I really enjoyed this. This was really motivational and well casted. Definitey brought down the waterworks at the end. Best film I've watched recently.
A Madea Homecoming (2022)
Filth, just skip this one.
This was a profanity laced woke mess. Definitely not a family movie for children to watch. Shucks, I'm an adult and felt uncomfortable watching this with my little cuz. This is not the old TP family comedy/drama movies. Nope, no sir. Skip it.
Bel-Air (2022)
This Prince is not Fresh
I'm over it! Once upon a time entertainment was entertaining. Ya'll remember that? I think actors, writers, film makers, producers etc have gotten so caught up in trying to preach to us their political views that they entirely forgot why the audience shows up. We're not going to theatres or paying our hard earned money to join Netflix or Disney Plus or Amazon Prime, Peacock, or whatever other streaming site, to be reminded of real life and anyone's political stance. We want to be entertained.
I tried to get into this but it was just doing the most. I'm over it.
The Shop Around the Corner (1940)
Splendid
Simply splendid and romantic. I watched this years ago when I was a teenager. I thought it was okay but now as a grown woman I enjoyed it. One of my faves with Jimmy.
The Wimbledon Kidnapping (2021)
Kind of disappointing
I really don't like watching crime series or documentaries where at the end you're left feeling like basically nothing was answered. I guess this is meant to leave us feeling how the family feels. This seemed to be a final attempt by the family to find answers.
