Blue Beetle (2023)
This one deserves more love!
Went in not sure what to expect. I knew that because of the strike, the film hasn't done as well in the theaters. That said, this film was WELL DONE. It's funny (Spiderman like funny), but not overly dumb like Love and Thunder. There are really moving scenes that just get you emotionally. It is both a heartfelt and an action packed film. The heartfelt part ties its elements to current realities and historical events. The action packed... Well, it's just that.. action packed. Good fighting scenes, good use of technology references in it.
The storyline is well developed, with just enough backstory to help you make sense of it. Cannot recommend it enough!
Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area (2022)
An honest review, and why it's worth it
THE BAD: The storyline is practically the same as the original Spanish masterpiece. A "professor", a # of robbers with different skills (albeit the same skills as those in the original), an inspector that is divorced, the same main character narrating the show, etc. It's downright annoying that they couldn't create a different storyline and had to replicate so much of the original story. Why you ask? Because you're not surprised when the story unfolds!
THE GOOD: I appreciate the cultural elements in this version. I particularly loved Rio's father acting. The cinematography is ALSO excellent. And finally, there are enough plot twists or differences that make the story exciting to watch, even if many parts are already familiar who watched the original.
For some reason, new episodes haven't come out since June 24, but I want this show to succeed, and hopefully bring even more change with each episode.
West Side Story (2021)
I'm torn
Was it well done? Yep! Masterly so. Loved the music, the dancing, the choreography, the customs, the setting, all of that was fantastic!
Now, Were the storyline and dialogue great? Yes for the most part, but no towards the end. Obviously this is a remake and they made some changes, but how the story develops is still very much 1960s. I cringed towards the end of the movie. There was much opportunity to make a significant remake and not just a readaptation. With that said, Id still recommend this movie!
Peacemaker (2022)
James Gunn all over it
I love and cringe at the dialogue. Lots of nonsense, ridiculous, hilarious talk, but somehow it doesn't take away from the action and story. It feels like Cena was made for this role. Can't stop watching!
Selena: The Series (2020)
Amazing series
Look, I started watching this because I wanted to make my wife company, and I got hooked. Though I am familiar with her songs, I wasn't a fan. I didn't even watch the movie. However I can appreciate how this show brings the humanity of Selena and her family. I knew of the ending, but still felt an huge amount of grief at the young life of a person who was so loved and so influential.
Actress doesn't look like her? And doesn't dance like her? Did you want a clone or something? Some reviews are just flat out dumb!
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
Give the man his flowers!
It's hard to undermine how meaningful this movie is. For us DC fans and for superhero movies fans overall, this is a major victory. Zack Snyder goes deeper on each hero's background (in different ways of course). To do this without the benefit of each super hero having his own movie before Justice League was released is commendable! What he has done in spite of bad planning of movie sequences, it's incredible.
The camera angle, the special effects, the story telling... I loved this movie and I'll darn right sit through another 4 hours to watch it again
Judas and the Black Messiah (2021)
Outstanding
I loved this movie. Fantastic story line, character development and the high tension points. Most importantly, it helps tell a more complete story of Fred Hampton and the Black Panthers. We need more movies like this one!
Sherlock (2010)
One of the few shows I can watch again and again
It's brilliant, hilarious, and very entertaining. It has something for everyone!
Cobra Kai (2018)
I cannot recommend it enough
Such a fun follow up to the Karate Kid movies. The series has great fight scenes, good character development, humor, and heartfelt moments. Both seasons ended with major cliff hangers. Can't wait for Season 3!
My Spy (2020)
It's funny, not super original, but very funny and endearing
Okay, if you're a movie critic, you may have a ball with this movie, but if youre looking to laugh and have an entertaining time, this is a great way to do that. Similar movies have been made, but it's still pretty entertaining and endearing
Community: Introduction to Statistics (2009)
Funniest and best episode I've seen in a long time
Abed takes the cake here. His impression of Batman is on point, and the monologue is terrific. As a Batman fan, I couldn't be happier with this episode!
El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019)
I wanna like it more, but it lacks on story
Many folks who are giving it a 9 or 10 are saying that we shouldn't expect it to be better or equal to BB. I wasn't and I don't think many of us did either. However the movie lacks resolution in many parts and the stories are not well connected. These two things are what annoyed me most. Though there is one underlying story, there are side stories that don't seem to be resolved and stories that don't clearly show a connection
The Lion King (2019)
Incredible. Heartfelt. Stunning visuals
Some people just critic because it makes them feel better about themselves. What's wrong with a remake? Dont new generation of viewers deserve a remake? Are you so shallow to think movies are just for you? About 18 of us went and every single person loved it. Go see it!
Captain Marvel (2019)
A great movie in its own right!
DC did Marvel a fine act by coming out with the amazing Wonder Woman film. I'm not gonna compare the two films, but I will say Captain Marvel stands alone as a great superhero movie. Not just a great female superhero movie, but a great superhero movie, period.
Honestly, I believe most of the negative reviews are people's insecurities getting the best of them. Some claim the acting or the character development. Please... She has the greatest strength, just like in the comics. The movie is funny, follows a great storyline, and connects well in the overall MCU. People just don't know what a movie wihtout a white male lead looks like.
Gotham (2014)
The best superhero show on national TV
Finally made an account on IMDb, and it was to make sure I reviewed this show!
This beats all the superhero shows on national TV. Better than Arrow, Flash, Agents of SHIELD, etc. Better even than Netflix's Like Cafe, Jessica Jones... Gotham is bested perhaps only by Daredevil.
The villains have been superb! Penguin, Riddler, Scarecrow, Tetch, and of course... The future Joker. I won't get into each of them, but I will say the role of the Jokers have been done justice to Heath Ledger's legendary performance in the Dark Knight.
I can't say it enough. You gotta watch this show!
Jack Ryan (2018)
Good enough, but not great.
I remember seeing the first ad for this show, maybe trailer almost a year ago. At some point, I realized Amazon had legit started advertising a show for almost one full year. Two things came to mind: 1. I can't believe they would tease us for a year 2. This is gonna be good!
Well, maybe I expected more. There were a few intense moments, but those were far and few in between. The story developed nicely, but some parts were very predictable. Maybe I was expecting a better version of Homeland, but this didn't have the "be on the edge of your seat" type of feel. I did love John Krassinki's part though. He was the unassuming asset all along. You knew he'd carry the mission, but you at times doubt that he will. While I look forward to Season 2, I can't say I'll recommend this show to everyone. I do hope Season 2 gets better!
