Designated Survivor (2016)
Naff Hollywood TV
WOOF turned this off ...a line in the first 15mins says "this isn't like the movies" and they're kinda right. It isn't like a good movie, but more like a Micheal Bay film. And if that is your thing, then smack your eyeballs and time with this.
Kiefer is great. This guy can do these high adrenaline takes and play reserved so well. Almost everyone else is melodramatic.
The idea is cool, but the script is cliche, naff and plain dumb. So much exposition, obvious tropes and tries to wringe too much false emotion. It is so blandly over the top.
It is clean cut, too neat, the people are too made up and that makes it boring.
If you want "popcorn" TV then watch this.
There are so many better shows to watch out there. Check out anything else that is in a similar vein. The Diplomat for instance.
Baskets (2016)
Hilarious and heart
We've just finished the second season. This show is equal parts hilarity and heart.
Chip Baskets roller-blading, "French trained", hack clown, who's life is the real comedy act. Every character in the show pines for a slice of success in their hard lives, but particularly the members of the Baskets family. But, of course, everytime they get close, it gets pulled down, and it'll either make you laugh out loud and shed a tear.
The writing is fantastic and the ensemble is excellent, but in particularl Zach Galifianakis and Louie Anderson are superb.
Zach plays twins and you honestly forget he is the same person.
Louie Anderson as the mother has made me feel every damn emotion. His performance is honestly one of the best comedic ones I have seen in a long time and it is a real shame we won't get to see him anymore.
If the show makes you feel a bit awkward at the start, give it time, because it is worth it.
History 101 (2020)
Ok. Use the metric system as well!
A rather toothless, gentle, editorial doco series.
And ahhh...the metric system? Over 90% of the world use it. Why doesnt this series?
The Gumball Rally (1976)
How did these get made?
This film has so many ideas of what it wants to be, and is absolutely none of them. How did they get these films made?? New York appears to be shutdown for it. How?! WHY?! It's like it has goals of being a mix of The Blues Brothers, The Good Fellas, National Lampoon and Planes, Trains And Automobiles all in one hit, but fails to get close to any of them. Watch it, but make sure you have some popcorn to throw at the screen.
Velvet Buzzsaw (2019)
No Idea
This film has no idea what it wants be. Such a great cast, but everything feels half done and...silly. I wonder if the actors knew what they where getting into...
