Designated Survivor: Suckers (2017)
Really believable...
So in just this one episode, we have a Brit playing an American (Natascha McElhone/Alex Kirkman), a South African born Aussie playing a Brit (Cariba Heine/Peyton Lane), an Aussie playing a Brit (Ben Lawson/Damian Rennett), two Canadians playing a Brit (Michelle Nolden/Catherine Cray and John Ralston/Carson Kramer), along with the token Brit who is actually playing a Brit - even if he is actually Welsh (Paul Amos/Darius Cray).
Of these, the only one whose accent is actually believable is Paul Amos' (even if he IS Welsh).
Many people may disagree with me, but you would have to be a Brit who lived in America (or an American who lives or lived here) to understand fully (Natascha's American accent is nearly, but not quite there - it's TOO generic - i.e. No regional inflections at all).
That said, the plot line of this episode is 100% believable!
By the way, anybody wanna buy a bridge, only I have one for sale?
A Dog's Purpose (2017)
Absolutely Brilliant!
A movie written from the perspective of man's best and most faithful friend!
What more could one ask?
I don't care about negative reviews or the radical group PETA, who think they know everything about animals, but actually know F*@k all!
What I DO care about is that I know for a FACT that we, as a species, have a symbiotic relationship with dogs - they give us unconditional love and peace, they know when we are down and vice-versa, and (those of us who are actually able (sadly, there ARE exceptions, and there should be a test that detects this defect at birth)), reciprocate that love.
All-in-all an excellent movie.
It made me laugh and it made me cry (unfortunately I may have cried a few too many times, but hey-ho, I love dogs).
Mostly, it made me appreciate our everlasting friends even more than I already did!
Left Behind (2014)
False Advertising!
I first saw a trailer for this movie when I lived in the US (2014-15). That trailer had me believing that this was a bad-a** up-to-date remake of Stephen King's "The Langoliers", although it didn't come out and say as much.
With everything that happened, I never got the chance to watch the movie and even forgot it's title, until lo and behold, I found it on Netflix.
Needless to say I rubbed my hands in gleeful anticipation of a 2 hour Kingfest, drooling over what modern CGI could do for the Langoliers themselves...
Uh-oh! How could I have been so wrong?
I sensed something amiss, when, during one of the opening scenes, we see Cage get out of his car. As he turns toward the terminal entrance, there is a blatantly cruciform ATC tower in the background, but i ignored this and soldiered on (nah, the filmmakers wouldn't do THAT, would they?). Further along, we come across Chloe's mother who is excited that her daughter is home and absent-mindedly(?) places her gardening gloves on a book - blatant, yet again... the book is a bible!
I again chose to ignore this, although by now I was getting suspicious and soon had those suspicions confirmed... (won't and shouldn't need to say more)...
Bu**er it! SPOILER ALERT:
When you see Nick Cage go from agnostic/atheist to born again hallelujah, amen in the blink of an eye, you KNOW something is WRONG with this film!
I am by no means intolerant of religion or religious people, but come on, man! If I wanted religion forced down my throat, whilst chained to an altar, I'd go to a church, not a movie theatre!
The Shannara Chronicles (2016)
IMDb need to start allowing minus ratings... this deserves -100
Smacks Shannara canon in the face then kicks it in the nuts for good measure!
Where do I even begin? I don't dare because if I do, I'll rant for the next 50,000 words or so (this is my 18th draft, and the shortest by 6,000 words)!
Suffice to say, I watched 5 minutes of episode 1 and LOATHED every second; I was actually in danger of throwing my PC out the window, until I paused it to calm down and only then realised here was a way to stop the torment!
I'll stick to my Shannara books TYVM!
Long live King Terry
