Flint Town (2018)
America-The Greatest Country in the World?
Wow! If this is how the good ole USofA treats it's citizens and police force it looks like the worst country in the world. Heartbreaking. I'm not a fan of the police usually because I believe in many cases they are utilised to suppress people for political reasons. But I was so impressed with the members of the Flint Police Department and surprisingly I was most impressed with the Chief of Police. He stood up for his workers and community-rather than siding with the big end of town.
Perhaps he missed one important aspect. The crime rate will always go up when there is no employment. There are bigger issues in Flint such as lack of opportunity because there are no jobs. Political corruption at its best.
Bring on another season. Soul destroying but this story needs to be told.
The Last Cruise (2021)
So Brave.........
Wow. What a superb documentary. Apart from the passengers I was so interested but sad to hear from the staff. I only discovered cruising 4 years ago. I must say I felt a little torn on the cruises due to my perceived knowledge regarding the crew. I felt I was very lucky to be on a cruise. Despite the professionalism and happiness of all the crew when you dig further you understand the huge sacrifices some crew members are making in regard to getting a job on a ship in an effort to support their families.
This documentary has proven my understanding of the situation when crew go to sea. Surely, if passengers could pay more for their tickets the crew could be paid more. That is if the huge cruise companies would agree and pay their workers what they are really worth. Hmmmm, instead of maybe tunnelling the extra revenue into their own coffers.
Many of the crew members come from developing nations. To many of them the salary they receive on the ship is better than was is paid at home. That is another subject altogether.
Will I cruise again? I will be checking all the cruises I may wish to sail on but will be asking questions regarding the wages and conditions of the crew. I shall choose the company who looks after its workers the best.
How brave were these workers on the Diamond Princess?
Thank you Ms Hannah for this enlightening and realistic portrayal of what happened during that cruise.
Fortitude (2015)
Ummmm
This is the funniest show I have watched. Not sure if it is supposed to be but.......
Very well acted. Maybe it's just me. Just watching the second season now. Perhaps not tied together very well. But some actors are just brilliant at being black comedy brilliant. Artistic license maybe. However sort of entertaining mainly due to the 'artistic licence' of some of the actors.
Der Pass (2018)
Excellent Production by the Germans and Austrians.
I think the actor who plays Gedeon is amazing! Okay the story line is very familiar as in the The Bridge etc but this production weaved its own story especially with the character portrayal. American productions are left for dead when it comes to these European and Nordic Noir dramas. Ellie's character is very well drawn and the actor is superb. The scenery and photography were spell binding. The villain (whose name I will not even write due to the fact he is way too scary) was also played by a brilliant actor. Any scope for further series? Unfortunately not unless the shooters at the end were totally off target. What a shame. With good writing for further production this series would have been a winner.
22 July (2018)
Wow!
This is the best film I have ever watched about a true life event. No music score continually playing throughout the movie. Photography showed Norway at it's most bleakest which harmonised perfectly with the events depicted. Amazing insight into different peoples' perspective on life. And a brilliant cast to top it off. I only just learnt that Anders Behring Breivik had an anti women attitude as well as a hatred of immigrants. I would have liked that represented in the film.
It was great to watch a film which presented a true narrative of a right wing attack on innocent civilians (children at that). Naturally I would rather the horrific incident depicted never occurred but so relieved that a film of this calibre has been made to show history is such a brilliant but sad way.
Collateral (2018)
Great modern drama.
I thought this series was excellent. Many problematic issues which we are all familiar with at least via the news. Terrorism, asylum seekers, sexual assault within conservative institutions, mental illness to name a few serious issues. The acting was superb. I do love British shows. So much more realistic than American drama. The story line was believable (it was a drama) especially in regard to the political content.
Hopefully another series will be done. I can see many opportunities for this shoe to shine a light on everyday issues which are occurring all around the world.
