October Faction (2020)
Better than the other reviewers give credit
The show is finding itself and had a lot of background info to set up the first half of the season. There are some nice plot twists and complications starting halfway through the season. They definitely took the Men of Letters idea from Supernatural and made it a bit shadier.
The casting is a bit of a miss for me, especially for the teens. The main male teens look far closer to 35 than 15. Frank Allen doesn't really look the right age compared to his wife and he definitely doesn't look like an active monster hunter. But real people don't match movies anyway so whatev.
The teenage writing is a bit terrible. I'm only 33 and I can tell they tried way to hard to use teen slang. They are also very stereotyped.
The complaints about the show being too PC are just whining. They don't bash your head over with everything. Interracial couple? Makes sense towards the end. Gay teens? There are a lot more gay people in the world than older people think and younger people are more open with it than previous generations. If these 2 things make a show too PC, or real, for you than you might want to pass.
This show has a lot of potential. If you like Supernatural, you'll like this. Give it a chance.
Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders: Pretty Like Me (2017)
Good story, needed more realistic sets.
I have lived in Seoul for almost 10 years now. This story line is pretty good and I can say that the cultural bits were spot on. The sets were atrocious and nothing they showed, except for the flashes when changing scenes, was even close to what Itaewon and Gangnam look like. Elementary schools don't even look like the cram school the two white teachers worked at. I honestly expect better from the set designers. Koreans don't even use dumpsters unless it is in the middle of a large apartment complex, let alone at a convenience store. They have designated spots to stack their trash bags on designated days. This is all info that could have easily been discovered.
It makes me wonder about the other episodes I have watched. How much research did they put into the locations? I hope it was more than 5 minutes of just sticking signs in different languages around.
