Bulbbul (2020)

A great visual tale that demolish patriarchy, should've been backed by a tighter script.

I can see people trashing this movie on various aspects but I loved this and it's not at all a bad movie and I loved maybe because I love the asynchronous screenplays and slow paced dramas. People were expecting some horror and this movie delivered something beyond their expectations. But there is a lot in the movie to admire. In few scene the reddish tone that was used for portraying revenge and blood was overdone and could've been avoided. There was not any other visual flaw there. The background music was good in pieces.

Everything was revealed and explained in the climax but this is not a unique story neither the revelation is unexpected. But the way screenplay unfolded was quite good. Most of people must have guessed it already halfway through the movie. The debutant director, Anvita Dutt failed to deliver the best horror movie of the year, which this movie had potential of, only if it would've designed and presented properly. But a one time watch won't harm your IQ either.

Guilty (II) (2020)

Netflix should be accounted GUILTY for making it.

Indian movies has basically two stories, like writing an essay, an introduction part and then conclusion part, which is the movie post-interval, unlike hollywood or movies on streaming platforms. It's quite tough for Indian filmmakers to adapt this change.

Here Ruchi Narain, failed to keep the audience engaged throughout. Mid-movie, it all starting to seem like a dragged plain narrative, and she just escalated it with a 'twist' for which the audience is not prepared at all because of the slow pace of the movie.

With all the interrogation scenes in the 'first half' of the film, it looked like there is too much in it to get revealed but Alas!!. All the permutations and combination were cleared already in the first half itself.

This movie tried very hard to be 'Article 375' with the plot similar to 'Judgemental hai kya?' but failed miserably. The only couple of good thing about this movie atr the performances and cinematography. If you're really craving for something refreshing you can pick other titles from the Netflix else this is just one time watch.

Audience was waiting for 'Achche Din'. Yet Dissappointed.

Haven't you already watched Gabbar is Back? If yes, then there is no need to watch this one. I hope you're already inspired from that movie because you're not going to watch anything different in this. A happy go lucky person turned vigilante and started killing corrupts(only cops in this case) because consequences of their actions. Moreover, you're going to hear some very cringy dialogues. A lot of melodramatic sequences, and bad acting from the antagonists while John is taking the sh*t out of them. Not giving you spoilers but obviously, there has to be a back story why did John's character started killing cops and that too is not convincing enough to believe. And what's the point in making a movie on same concept with less logical approach and still expecting audience to like it because you just released it on Independence Day.

Sanju (2018)

Ranbir 'roared'. Hirani proved his storytelling skills. People cheered. Reality died.

Sanju

This movie is all abouting whitewashing the image of Sanjay Dutt by his friend Hirani. Like Azhar movie, here director showed us that the media is the only culprit here in making Sanjay Dutt a terrorist. Movie showed that Dutt posses gun just because he wants to keep his family safe during the riots and bobm blasts but earlier in an interview Dutt himself confessed that he like hunting and that's because he had a gun in his house. There are a few more such goofs and factual errors are there.

Now talking about the movie, Ranbir Kapoor is such agem that Indian cinema needs. He proved in the movie how much versatile he is as an actor. Ranbir with his acting only took the movie some other level and also mentioning the expected 'surprise' Vicky Kaushal, he overshadowed Ranbir in every scene they shared together. Paresh Rawal as Dutt's father, Manisha koirala, Dia Mirza did their best.

Rajkumar Hirani is master of storytelling. With every movie he is raising the bar. The music of the movie is also great.

If you don't want to know about the reality and just waiting for a entertaining movie, go for it. The Sanju team won't disappoint you.

Sacred Games (2018–2019)

This show talks about revolution. Literally. In Indian cinema. But. Great shows deserve great ending. Alas!!!

This is first Indian netflix original series directed by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwani.

The second season was a bigger disappointment than what I'm to my parents. Well, jokes apart, S02 was not as bad but S01 actually raised the bar so high that matching upto that level was never going to be easy. They just made the Gaitonde's character a mere joke. Guruji's character doesn't have the potential that we expected. The more they digged into other characters, more cartoonish they looked except Zoya, Malcolm and Jojo's character. They kept an open ending in S02 also but I hope they better come with a killer script else...

First 30 seconds in the first episode and you'll get to know that this series is going to be dark, edgy and controversial. This series starts with bold statements on religion, and then continues with same on political figures like Rajiv Gandhi to a lot of cuss words, violence and drug use. If you're a person who gets offended very easily then I advise you to keep yourself away form it.

Sacred Games is just an example of what Anurag Kashyap is capable of. This is his real potential. Now screw CBFC. I maybe am a bit biased towards Anurag Kashyap or Phantom productions in general.

The whole cast did a great job, while we saw Saif Ali Khan in a good role after Omkara and Being Cyrus. Radhika Apte has a quite short but impressive role. In my opinion Neeraj Kabi, Jatin Sarna and Nawazuddin are the backbone of the series.
