5 out of 10 is really spot on for this one

This is one of these movies where the plot is entirely predictable within 10 minutes of watching it.

It's nice as a distraction, overall poorly made so it doesn't require too much attention and very good for your Netflixy background video needs.

Feeling sorry for those who missed the entire point of the film
1 July 2020
All the 1-star reviews from people massacring this for scientific inaccuracies and genius physics students crying about space not being represented "correctly" - I feel sorry for you.

Did it ever cross your mind that this is actually a FICTION MOVIE, and not a documentary? do you look for "inaccuracies" when looking at a painting in a gallery?

would it be such a betrayal to your intelligence to watch a movie that, yes, takes place in space, letting go of your expectations, science education, representation of the "Genre" (which? it's a drama film) and everything you have pre-determined to be the "correct" way this movie should be, and actually try to be open to the experience?

if you give it a shot - you might change your mind.

Cuarón is brave enough NOT to be scientifically accurate. he is an ARTIST.

It's a visually stunning cinematic experience that keeps you on the edge for the entire duration of the film.

It is directed to invoke the feeling of loneliness and helplessness in an unprecedented way.

It brings out a surprising range of emotions all along the way.

It's not a "space movie".

It is a piece of art. and as such, it is stunningly executed.

Gets better with every minute, what a surprise!
13 July 2018
I was skeptical when starting to watch this due to low ratings and the first few minutes of the film made me wonder if there's anything to it. I was in for a surprise! Conitinously and surprisingly developing storyline, wonderful soundtrack, thrilling but only to a very enjoyable extent (no horror), incredibly sexy main actress, and truly puzzling and exciting moments!

It's not a 10/10 because I do feel the acting could be a bit more polished, and as a technical person there could be some more sense built into the story line, but I don't want to make any spoilers. Just watch it!

Story DOES Matter!!!
29 April 2018
Under the influence of latest development of "nearly" Sci-Fi shows (Black Mirror, etc.) this one has an enticing idea and I really wanted to love this film. The thing is, without a developed story line, I kind of lost interest after 3/4 of the film where it was obvious that there was no telling between reality and imagination anymore and that we're up for a twist. which was, in turn, disappointing, as well as the ending which lacked resolution and leaves the viewer puzzled and waiting for more.

The only reason I am writing this is because I actually felt this film has good potential in the first 20 minutes.

However, I like the quote : "As far as your brain is concerned, fantasy and reality are chemically identical."
