London Kills (2019)
Ok if you just want the TV on for the sake of it.
I'm currently on season two don't really know if I have the endurance or stamina to make it too season three and the new forth season.
There are many good or excellent TV cop series based throughout Britain but this one definitely isn't.
The stories and scripts are weak, the acting is pretty wooden, and the ones I have watched the biggest tips they always seem to get are from Street CCTV no much actual police detective work.
I like to give a honest unbiased opinion when I do make the effort of posting a review on here and I would rather give a 10 than a four but I believe that is all this program is worth.
Fearless (2017)
Definitely worth a watch
I thoroughly enjoyed this small series, I can not sing the praises of Helen .McCrory enough what a brilliant actress so sad she is no longer with us. She played Polly in Peaky Blinders too which again outstanding.
Fearless was well written and acted and kept you guessing until the end. Helen's character had nerves of steel and nothing scared her. It had some elements of the story that were a little close to the truth and it shows what lengths people in power will go to, to protect themselves.
It shows so many human emotions and Helen McCrory really brings her character to life in search for the truth even when it appears to be a lost cause.
It definitely deserved a second series however sadly this wasn't the case.
Annika (2021)
Not terribly good
I love Nicola Walker I think she is one of Britain's best actresses, she was brilliant in "River" and complimented by Stellan Skarsgård , forgotten also definitely worth a watch. I was really looking forward to this latest addition from Nicola, however I found the story lines weak the characters had little substance then you had to put up with quite often thick Scottish accents. The fly on the wall aspect was really annoying as of it where some sort of documentary. It also fell fowl of trying to hard to be all inclusive, others may go as far to say it was woke. I've sat through four episodes so far all are very predictable, don't know if I have the patience to watch all 12.
Silent Witness (1996)
Mainly entertaining
I have basically binge watched the majority of the series. I was very sad to see Harry go I did enjoy the banter and charisma between him and Nikki.
I always hoped they would get it on together but alas it didn't happen. Nikki and Jack seem don't have this but Nikki has been to busy bed hopping.
Generally the majority of the series have good story lines and keep you guessing until the end, who done it.
Nikki always seems to be on a moral crusade and it can be a little irritating. The cops change every two episodes some are a lot more believable than others.
Just one other point Nikki's dress sense is absolutely awful, most of the time it either looks like she been to a charity shop or using hand me downs from her granny.
Green Book (2018)
Thoroughly enjoyed
Opens your eyes to how terrible segregation was 60 years ago in the south. The acting was great and very authentic scenery. A complete contrast to today where we are expected to get on a bender knee to show your support to the BLM.
Mary Queen of Scots (2018)
Why bother
If you are going too attempt to make a historical movie at least try to make a effort, I watched the first 10 minutes and thought OMG, there was the occasional black slave in England at the time, but please correct me if I'm wrong there where No black noblemen period!
L.A.'s Finest (2019)
Ridiculous
I only watched the preview that was enough, to show me this was stupid. Presumably a fake or rouge cop pulls over a car smashes the drivers window, then two female cops arrive on the scene, the fake cop quickly gets back into his cruiser, U turns and hightails it out of there one of the female cops opens up with her revolver, if you look in the background about 300 yards there are over a dozen members of the public using the crosswalk. Hence ridiculous there would be a reasonable chance whilst shooting at the fleeing fake cop she would hit one of the members of the public and be up on a manslaugher charge. Never happen in real life
Bridgerton (2020)
Belongs on the cutting floor
Absolute garbage, I thought it was a American parody or was it ? The actors are one dimensional very predictable , if you want to throw 8 hours away, fill your boots. For the life of me I can not understand how it has a score of over 7. Generally I will give anything with a score of over 7 a shot but this was just bad bad bad. Don't even get me started over the diversity issue but if in fact it wasn't a parody then at least try to make it too have some semblance on being historically correct instead of making it politically correct. If I could give it zero I certainly would have done utter trash
Orange Is the New Black (2013)
Great drama
I didn't think I would like this series and bypassed it everytime I saw it on Netflix, however either the lockdowns I began to running out of things to watch. I throughly enjoyed it and became immersed in the characters especially Chapman and Vause.
I do hope they either make a final series or feature long episode as they did with sense 8 and breaking bad( El Camino) just to finish all the lose ends. Please bring it back
Fargo (2014)
Binge worthy
Absolutely loved every episode, best two characters played by Billy Bob Thornton and Mary Elizabeth Winsted. Watched it twice I thought it was that good.
Sex Education (2019)
Well written series
I didn't think I would like it but with this lockdown I am running out of things to watch. I really enjoyed the series and I am looking forward to the third. A vast array of characters. I don't really know which decade it was trying to portray they all had smart phones however the cars and the music reflected the 80',s but I just forgot about that and enjoyed the show. Does anyone else think that Emma Mackey has a uncanny resemblance to Margot Robbie?
What/If (2019)
What if I hadn't wasted my time
I made made it through nearly 4 episodes which I think I deserve a medal. It seemed to start off well very much like indecent proposal but nothing much happened after the first episode and I only kept watching because Renee was in it. I have watched some monotonous movies and tv shows which have kept me just interested enough I wanted to know what happened in the end, but I'm sorry I couldn't do it , only gave it 2 maybe I was too generous.
Animal Kingdom (2016)
Binge worthy
Deserves nothing less than a ten, I found it compelling watching. Great cast, fantastic script, so many twists and turns. The matriarch Smurf (Ellen Barkin) is superb I can't wait for series 5.
Dead to Me (2019)
I got bored of it
It just dragged on and you just keep think when is she ever going to drop the bombshell? It was a interesting idea but I just got bored with it in the end.
The Crown (2016)
I now view the Queen in a different light.
As a Brit I was factually aware of most of the historical events. However it opened my eyes on a couple of points. How the Queen broke a pledge she made to her father and sister, I really felt for Margret how she was treated regarding Peter Townsend if you take into consideration how Harry had the red carpet rolled out for Megan. Also I never thought I would have any sympathy for Charles until I watched how badly he was treated especially in his adolescence. The series is very well made and in my opinion was factually accurate. Enjoyable watch I look forward to season four especially because princess Diane comes on the scene.
Red Sparrow (2018)
Don't believe the one star raters
I thought this film was enjoyable and kept you guessing in parts. I think Jennifer payed a good part. All is revealed at the very end. I just think that some people are never pleased even if the movie of the decade was reviewed and 99% of people gave it a ten you will always get that 1% who are never happy and leave bad reviews for the hell of it.
Once Upon a Time (2011)
Becomes repetitive
I enjoyed the first couple of seasons however the storylines become weaker and to be honest silly characters die only to be resurrected, spells are cast that are everlasting only to be broken a couple of episodes on. I have always been a fan of Robert Carlisle but he could do so much better than getting involved with this. It also tries to hard to be politically correct Cinderella has always been white but what do I know.
Line of Duty (2012)
Definitely binge worthy
This is one of the best tv series on Netflix, not like most mundane US cop shows because it's actually believable. It just shows the BBC can still make excellent programs. The characters are great the scripts are well written. One of the best for a while. Some on this side of the Atlantic may struggle a little with the dialogue but I'm sure you will get the drift.
The Long Good Friday (1980)
Bit more than a 'ot dog
One of the best British movies. Bob Hoskins is brilliant may be a little difficult to understand on the other side of the pond.
I, Tonya (2017)
This movie gives you a different prospective.
I can remember the incident in 1994 and being from the other side of the pond, I had formed the opinion that Tonya was just a cheat. However the movie gives a good insight into Tonyas life and the difficulties she faced not coming from a stereotypical all American family. Her biggest mistake by far was hooking up with Jeff he basically ruined her career. She definitely had the talent and the drive to be the best in the world, but sadly she will probably always be remembered for the Nancy incident.
The End of the F***ing World (2017)
Definitely a binge series
I loved it it wasn't what I expected, there are to many movies and series that have been done before but this was refreshingly different, yes maybe a tinge of Bonnie and Clyde but that where the similarities end. I was waiting for James to tell her he loved her but I'm not going to put any spoilers in here. Great TV well done channel 4 in the UK. I hope they can write a 3rd script which is just as good.
In the Tall Grass (2019)
More interesting cutting the grass
Don't bother it's a stinker! Must have cost less than a grand to make.
Breaking Bad (2008)
Probably the best TV series Ever!
What more can I say but absolutely brilliant it has just about every emotion you can think of. The script is outstanding, the characters are believable. You empathize, sympathize, laugh, cry. Anyone who doesn't give this a Ten what more do you want.
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
Very disappointed
One of the best tv series of all time breaking bad comes a close second however where the latter had a good finale GOT's was a disaster. I was looking forward to buying the box set but now I will pass. I feel I wasted $40 too upgrade to HBO for 2 months too watch the final series. After something do well written to have such a disappointing end enough said.
The Fast and the Furious (2001)
So unbelievable
I watched the first ten minutes and just thought it was so stupid, why go through all the stupid stunts trying to hijack a semi if they had done a little bit of homework the easiest way is to take out the emergency red air line simply locks the brakes on. One hit from a shotgun mission accomplished. Really Dumb
