Monk: Mr. Monk and the Kid (2005)
Season 3, Episode 16
10/10
As always Tony Shalhoub is amazing
15 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the episode that makes me cry like a baby. With beautiful performances from everyone involved, the bonding scenes between Monk and Tommy look effortless and sweet, particularly the final scene. Between this episode and when we are introduced to John Turturro's Emmy winning episode Ambrose Monk, the heart of the show was amplified. The "here's what happened" scene when he realizes he's not what's best for Tommy is heart breaking and as I said before, the final scene is both beautiful and tragic, with Taylor Howard also teary eyed. Love love love this episode and the series as a whole.

Spirited (2022)

So great

Warning: Spoilers
As soon as I hit play... I was pulled in... then the music hit and I immediately fell in love. It was perfect. The lyrics, the choreography, the sweeping camera work. It jumped to my 2nd favorite Christmas movie of all time in one year. While Ferrell and Reynolds are not necessarily broadway level performers, but they easily carry the heart of the film. Spencer also shines in her role and it's easy to see what Ferrell's character sees in her.

I've watched it so many times since it's streaming release. I do hope though, that Apple decides to release this on physical media; a format I wholeheartedly support. It deserves to be seen by more.

Fast X (2023)

Not the weakest... not the best
22 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I've been a fan of the series for quite some time. I still find Fast Five to be the strongest as it utilized the cast and practical stunts the best, something I feel Justin Lin presented the best. Attaching this current chapter to that film had me excited, but I had trepidation once Lin stepped back. The hiring of Louis Leterrier; of The Transporter series (1 & 2), The Incredible Hulk and Now You See Me; softened my worries, but after seeing this chapter... I went away slightly displeased.

Action set pieces are over the top; as expected; but these sequences rely too heavily on noticeable CGI cars and explosions. Additionally, the separating of characters hurts the overall flow of the story and timeline of the story itself.

What it does have going for it l, however, are the characters themselves. No one puts in a bad performance; though the acting has never been what the audience craves; and Jason Momoa is clearly having the most fun as both the actor and character and is easily the most flamboyant of any villain the series has presented.

Ending on a major cliffhanger for everyone involved does make me want to see the next film... but the series really has become a little long in the tooth and may need a serious redirection of they decide to spin off more characters or the franchise itself for me to enjoy. Overall... not terrible but I wouldn't have been upset if I caught it upon its physical media release.

How I Met Your Mother (2005–2014)
8/10
The creators of this show are Whedon fans
14 December 2006
As much as I love the show there are moments I think that the creators put in there for fans of Alyson Hannigan and Joss Whedon. Many of you may be thinking what the heck does Joss Whedon have to do with this show? Well, have you caught some of the guest stars? In season one we could have attributed the guest staring of Alexis Denisoff (Wesley of Buffy, then Angel) to being her husband, but then a few episodes later... Amy Acker (Fred of Angel) shows up. In season two, we've had 3. There was Morena Bacharin (Inara of Firefly)and in the same episode, Tom Lenk (Andrew of Buffy and recently Harry Groener (Mayor Wilkins of Buffy). I'm not complaining. I love it. But I wonder if any of the producers on How I Met Your Mother are the same from Buffy or Angel. Keep em' coming.
