Bhooter Bhabishyat (2012)
Great movie.
This is a joyride. Well-scripted and full of pun. You can enjoy it completely if you're a Bengali and aware of its rich culture. I have watched it for third time and not felt bore for a moment.
Kalankita Nayak (1970)
Mediocre. Very mediocre.
This is a Bengali movie made for the masses. The story has many loopholes, clichéd dialogues and above all weak direction made this movie not worth seeing, or you can see it for one time. But if you're intelligent or watched many Hollywood as well as Indian classics which have some literary values, you would get bore easily. The actors did their job well I must say, but It's definitely not a classic.
Shatranj Ke Khilari (1977)
A Gem.
This is a classic movie from the maestro. Everything seems well, a well-directed, well-acted movie. He tells us history but we never get bored.
Manojder Adbhut Bari (2018)
Disastrous.
I think they have failed to catch the essence of the classic funny story and bring the output on the screen. There is intellect but no heart at all. Firstly, casting is not good. Bratya Basu as Baradacharan ? He is a bit older for that role. There is no character study I think. The director should read all Baradacharan stories betore making this film. He ruined the characters. Chronological faults are there also. I think the film's story is set in the 1970s. Then how come Kandarpanarayan in his childhood (that's in the 1950s) could recite the nonsense poem translated by Satyajit Ray ? There are so many other faults like that. Another thing that I can't bear is the excessive use of pun. Some scenes are good (like the 'cowfighting' scene, use of animated cartoons) but they can't save the movie.
Top Hat (1935)
Evergreen entertainment.
Watched it for the first time on 15/05/18. The film is b/w, and it's wonderful, its grandeur awesome, overall I think its an intelligent musical entertainment and not dated.
