Kalifornia (1993)
5/10
Watch it for a young Pitt
26 October 2018
Kalifornia is disturbing, and, while it doesn't overdo the blood, neither is the violence understated. The basic premise should be enough to keep the meek away -- if you have no desire to see a film that follows a serial killer, stay away from Kalifornia. However, those with more macabre tastes will find that this picture packs a little more punch than the traditional Hollywood slasher flick. Of the four principal actors, Brad Pitt gives the least impressive performance, probably because of the nature of his character. Early is all rage and self-righteousness, and there are times when he slips into a caricature mode. Juliette Lewis is a little better, but great range isn't required for Adele, either. She's pretty much a simpleminded young woman who refuses to believe the awful truth about her boyfriend.

The ballad of Ricky Bobby is hilarious
12 July 2018
Talladega Nights is a very funny take on the Midwestern redneck Nascar fan and Will Ferrell and John C Reilly make an amazing partnership. The main focus is on the Nascar and when a rival European(Sasha Baron Cohen in a hilarious turn as a gay racer) openly challenges Ricky Bobby(Ferrell) the game is on. The racing scenes are good although the focus is always on the funny bits. You should definitely see this if you're a Will Ferrell fan.

The Bounty (1984)
7/10
One of the best ship based movies ever made
28 June 2018
He Bounty is a very good film that shows the plight of the mutineers of the HMS Bounty against Captain William Bligh. The film is filled with faces- Anthony Hopkins plays the Captain, a dashingly young Mel Gibson is Fletcher Christian- key conspirator and other faces such as a young Daniel Day Lewis and Liam Neeson as well as Laurence Olivier. The cinematography is stunning, and Roger Donaldson deftly directs such actors, not to mention shooting the ship sequences- strange that he never really became a household name. Go watch the Bounty to relive a great book.

Backcountry (I) (2014)
7/10
Must watch nature survival feature
7 June 2018
This is a good film about a bunch of campers who get lost in the woods and end up being stalked by a bear. I was surprised by everything: the acting, atmosphere and production values, everything except the plot which was pretty bare but for a film of this kind it isn't a problem. Backcountry is a film that deserves an audience. (Must watch nature survival feature)

Premature (2014)
6/10
A middling effort but can be seen once
31 May 2018
A decent middling effort- comedy is hard to pull off (no pun intended) but one that mixes the plot of American Pie and Groundhog Day is setting its sights way too high. Having said that Premature is still better than many of the big budgeted comedy films coming out lately. One time watch with a bunch of friends and a crate of beer. (A middling effort but can be seen once)

The Avengers (2012)
9/10
must watch superhero extravaganza
25 May 2018
Avengers is an awesome superhero film and every adjective- loud, brash, kickass applies. All the actors gathered do a good job either against one another or against a blue screen. The action is top notch and you might get a bit woozy even with all the stuff that happens on the screen. This is a movie event and it should not be missed under any circumstances (must watch superhero extravaganza).
