Churuli (2021)
A movie that's based on a story quite possibly written while on a bad speed trip
Good execution of a pathetic story line. I mean you can polish a t*rd and it will shine, but it's not gold. This is what this movie is - an utter waste of screen space exemplifying the not-so-gradual decline in movies from the heyday of good Indian cinema, especially from the state of Kerala (not saying that the Malayalam movie industry was ever churning out masterpieces in the first place). But Churuli has taken this industry and deposited it in the nadir of bad film-making.
The film-maker has taken their audience for granted to such an extent that it is outrageous. Churuli is an insult to the discerning film-connoisseur's intelligence. So much ado about nothing. Sigh.
Paper Dragons (2021)
The cinematic version of a migraine
It's a pity that this thing starts off on a fairly tolerable note. An hour of meaningless sequences later, it just free-falls into a cesspit of patheticness.
The Carducci Talent Show (2021)
It's only 35 minutes long, feeble plot, good acting
The plot is weak, Within the first two minutes, it becomes anybody's guess and a half that if something sinister hasn't happened yet, it IS GOING TO. Good acting and great production value, however.
Anand (1971)
The rating is well-deserved
Indian cinema has evolved since the seventies (mostly for the better than for worse), but this will remain a classic.
