Before I Fall (2017)
BEAUTIFUL AND FUNNNNN
May seem like just any other cliché chick-flick within the first 10 minutes.... its not.
I truly don't even have much to say it's just a "MUST WATCH".
For any age for any person, sex.. whatever.
Everyone needs to get reminded of the main idea this movie is trying to portray..... seriously. It's an obvious "lesson" but it's so dope to watch right in front of you.... "watch it play out" almost (that will make sense once you watch it).
It had me on the verge of tears around 3/3rd's of the movies end. Yet never a tear did fall, for happy reasons- that I also don't want to spoil. It's a crazy emotional-mixture.
I also love the actor "Zoey Deutch" who plays "Sam". I've seen her in a few other movies and she's so talented. She expresses emotion really well, with not just what she says but her MANNERISMS and head jerks and pauses, etc.
I seriously adore this movie.
PS- the scenery is freaking SUCH a vibe. Stormy weather with gorgeous trees and mountains.... I wish I grew up in a town like that. Sure the characters houses are huge.... don't we all wish for that. But just the town itself is so "moody" in such a good way. Ugh I love.
Dope friends can get you through anything...... you don't need a fancy house to be happy or feel secure. You feel secure by feeling secure about yourself and who you are...... I always get sad for people who are happy on sunny days and sad on rainy days...... I personally love the range. I wish I could help others feel "vibes" from all types of weather and even just every attribute life has to offer.
Claws (2017)
SAD IT IS ENDING- just wasn't advertised well. One of my favs!!
I feel like not too many people even know about this show!!! I don't think the issue with this show being cancelled was because of the show "not being liked" (I'm assuming)... I think it's being cancelled because it wasn't advertised well and not many people know about it.
The trailers and previews seemed way too girly to me, it intrigued me of course... but this show is so much more than girly stuff and nails. Sure it's nothing perfectly written or too profound. But it gives me all the best vibes and makes me feel like I'm in south Florida livin it up alongside them everytime I watch it, lol. And makes me want to have friends like they all do.
This show represents women. Women of all color and sizes. Represents unity & how to be "your own boss". Represents family and the benefits of having good friends. And is also just fun and dirty the whole ride. Breaking Bad/Ozark-esc.
Karrueche Tran who plays "Virginia" in the show is my FAVORITE!!!!! She's this "Mixed-Dark-Skin-Street-Barbie". She wears dope outfits (some I've even seen from real online stores like Dolls Kill, etc). She inspired ideas and accessories to my wardrobe and overall inspires me to have this happy-go-lucky/fake it until you make it, vibe!! She is always sucking on a piece of candy, or sucker, lol. And she's just such a bad a** vibe!!!!!!!!! Karrueche plays her so well!!!!!!!! It's crazy cause her role is so different from who she is in real life, (or from what I've seen).
Carrie Preston who plays "Polly" is a DOLL. You always feel for her yet almost can't justify her actions at the same time.... yet 100% can. You wish you had a friend like her to always be by your side, who will fight alongside you no matter what is going on. She's the truest friend, even though she probably has some of the darkest stuff going on within.
Niecy Nash.... who plays "Desna". Oh my gosh. "THAT PART" (one of her phrases). She's just a bad-a**. She represents what hard work can get for you. She's amazing with her role as "Desna". She definitely holds down the show. I couldn't imagine her role being played by anyone else. Not much else to say!!! Just watch!!
Jenn Lyon who plays "Jennifer Husser" and Kevin Rankin who plays "Bryce Husser".... OHHHHHHH MY GOSH!!! They are SO unique. They have SUCH great and humorous chemistry together. They are also amazing by themselves.. almost sad I'm lumping them into the same paragraph (LOL). I think they just remind me of myself and my boyfriend. Like I can't explain how funny they are!!! Always trying to LIVE THE GOOD LIFE AND ENJOY THEMSELVES. All they wanna do is have fun together, lol!!!! They're actually quite simple even though their personalities are quite loud. I'm obsessed.
Harold Perrineau who plays "Dean Simms"......... speechless. He is my boyfriends' favorite character. He's my second favorite behind Karrueche as "Virginia". I NO JOKE HAVE NO WORDS, THOUGH. I praise him. His acting is impeccable. Him, and Niecy as "Desna", are a BOMB match for a family pairing... again no words. The acting speaks for itself. Their relationship together is so special. And they represent some serious issues in the world. It's magical. And he's the FUNNIEST!!!!! We all need a "Dean" in our life!!!!
Jack Kesy who plays "Roller Husser"..... YUM. Kind of like Gossip Girl how Chuck grew on people..... Roller will grow on you, too. He developed maturity-wise as the series went on. (I will say though, as far as Chuck in Gossip Girl goes.. I've liked Chuck from the start. I liked Roller from the start, too.) I have no words, I'm obsessed. So fun and exciting to watch. Never know what he's going to do next.
Is it getting annoying that I just keep saying "I have no words" to describe the characters? If so I apologize. But that goes to show just how deeply I feel for them all and how much I love this show and am sad it's ending after this next season they release!!!
So funny to see Dean Norris play "Uncle Daddy" as he was obviously great in "Breaking Bad". Such opposite roles from this show and BB, it's AMAZING to watch.
I haven't forgot Judy Reyes as "Quiet Ann"... infact I can see her being MANY people's #1 favorite character. And I couldn't imagine the show without her. But we haven't seen TOO, too much of her. What we have seen from her past is a beautiful mess and I respect her so much. She balances the crew out beautifully. Seriously couldn't imagine the girls' crew or the show without her.
THIS SHOW IS DEFINITELY A "MUST WATCH" IN MY EYES. I'll even admit it definitely won't be everyone's favorite. But I believe it to be one of those things you at least have to TRY IT OUT at least to know forsure.
It's not written perfectly like Breaking Bad or Ozark....... but the jist and the plots are fairly the same. So give it a try!!! It's just a tad more girly is all. It even discusses real life issues..... which is needed. It's beautiful.
I'm someone that, if I like something? I'll watch it again in a year or something.. movies & tv shows. I like to end my reviews with mentioning if this is something I'd re-watch or not. AND IVE ALREADY WATCHED ALL OF THE SERIES TWICE AS OF NOW. When it was first airing, then again before one of the new seasons came out at one point. And I'm sure in the next 2 or so years I'll binge it again!!
The Gift (2015)
Not too good, not too bad. Has a good message.
I wanted to rate this 5.5/10 but you can't do half stars.
I will say.. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Jason Bateman's acting, and his humor. There's no humor in this movie, though. I'm sure there's tons more people who know Jason from the show Ozark... but wow has he been in so many things. Basically has been acting his entire life. He's just very well rounded and I'll always watch something with him in it.
Then there's Rebecca Hall who plays "Robyn".. I first saw her from the movie "The Town" (which is one of my favorite movies). The Town I'd rate a 10/10. So she's great, too.
This movie, like I said in the title, isn't good nor bad. But it has a message at least. A message that I think is common sense, and even a message that could even be missed when watching it. But it's definitely a message that even if you're aware of, is good to be reminded of. Kind of a "you never know what could happen" or "this could be you" or "you never know".
The message in my opinion, in simple terms is... "Be Kind To Others". It's as simple as that. Don't be a bully when you're younger cause you may regret it when you're older, LOL. You may be the cool kid in high school, but once everyone's older... it's an even playing field.
I've always loved the motto "Live And Let Live", which actually has its own definition: "You should tolerate the opinions and behavior of others so that they will similarly tolerate your own". I couldn't believe this statement to be more true. You don't have to agree with others.. you don't have to even like others.. you could even absolutely despise someone... BUT JUST TREAT THEM WELL!!! Or keep your mouth closed and don't say anything at all, like our mommas used to tell us, LOL.
Now onto the actual movie itself... it was definitely a fun ride I will say. One of the reasons I actually don't think it's a bad movie.. is because surprisingly you actually don't know what will happen next. Some movies no matter the genre you can kind of guess what will happen next... like subtle things. This movie you can't really. And is why this movie I think is also good. So it definitely is a cute little movie that I'm glad I've at least seen once.
I'm someone that, if I like something? I'll watch it again in a year or something.. movies & tv shows. I like to end my reviews with mentioning if this is something I'd re-watch or not. I don't think anything too major happened that I'd forget about, for it to seem new again if I watched it in a year... it's definitely just a great one-time-see movie. But I'm glad I've seen it, and do appreciate the message I got from it/got reminded of again.
When We First Met (2018)
Super Cute
Movies with Adam DeVine in them are either a hit or a miss for me. No in between. And this one was really good!!!
It's not that I think Adam DeVine is either good or bad in some movies, it's not his fault if he's in a movie that I don't like... cause he's usually always great. It's just some of the movies or the scripts or plot lines for some of the movies he is in, aren't the best.
I also love Alexandra Daddario. She's great too.
And I've learned as of recent I like everything I've seen Robbie Amell in, who plays "Ethan".
Overall there's not much to say about this movie other than it's super cute. Definitely more up the "Chick-Flick" category of movies.. but surprisingly my boyfriend also liked this and help me decide what rating to give this. And we went with a 7/10.
Definitely worth watching, even a little inspirational!!
I'm someone that, if I like something? I'll watch it again in a year or something.. movies & tv shows. I like to end my reviews with mentioning if this is something I'd re-watch or not. I couldn't watch this in a year because there's nothing too crazy that happens to where I'd either be excited to see again, or there's nothing that crazy that I could forget happening... but maybe in another two years I could watch it. But I don't think I would. It's definitely a cute one time movie to pass the time, though. I'd say it's worth it if you're bored and wanna see something cute!! I'm glad I've seen it.
Home Sweet Hell (2015)
Funny and I'm sure to some, a relatable movie.
This movie was surprisingly good! And I say that because within the first 20-25 mins of the movie.. it may appear like it's just some goofy, "simple husband and wife" story. And it is.... but it's actually good.
There's not some surprising plot twist or anything super crazy you'll take away from the movie. But it's a great, STORY.
Patrick Wilson played his part sooo well!! I don't want to give any spoilers away, but let's just say.. when I titled this review "I'm sure to some, it's relatable", it's because of "Don Champagne", which is Patrick Wilson's character. I'm sure many men go through what he does. Maybe not to that much of an extreme like the movie..... but similar.
And Katherine Heigl as Mona was great too!!!
It's just a good & simple little story, funny and dangerous. Nothing too crazy but definitely something good to watch if you're bored.
I'm someone that, if I like something? I'll watch it again in a year or something.. movies & tv shows. I like to end my reviews with mentioning if this is something I'd re-watch or not. This isn't something I'd watch in a year again because a year wouldn't be enough time for me to forget everything that happened in the movie. But maybe two years down the line I could because it's just a good time-passer type of movie. Simple in a way, but good.
Vivarium (2019)
Plot aside.. it's just boring and has no purpose
I did not like this movie. The set up and idea was GREAT and the movie had grounds to be so good!! But it just wasn't!
It reminds me of all these new 2019-2020 type of movies and shows... like the shows Black Mirror or Upload or Channel Zero. Very "deep-thinking"/Syfy/future oriented-technology/a "What If This Is How Future Life Would Be" set up, esc. So the idea of the movie was good. But the movie itself was not.
This movie did not have purpose. It did not make us relate to any characters, or be able to relate to a feeling a character feels, or even want or not want to be put in the situation the characters were in. It just legit had no purpose. If anything (and this will make sense if you watch it) it makes you very annoyed. And not annoyed because the movie isn't good... annoyed because of what happens in the movie itself, lol. Hard to explain unless you watch it.
Could have been a horror sequel to the movie "Downsizing". I'm not saying Downsizing is good or bad, but it could of at least had a purpose like that movie did.
It's just a bad situation with no "escape" or good ending. Gosh and I'm someone who loves all genres and many movies... but this is just NOT it. Lol. And again just like what I titled this review..... plot aside whether some people like the plot or not..... (and get happy from people's never ending misery) it's just BORING alongside misery, lol.
No plot twist, that world is just never ending misery.
I'm someone that, if I like something? I'll watch it again in a year or something.. movies & tv shows. I like to end my reviews with mentioning if this is something I'd re-watch or not. I'd absolutely never watch this again, lol.
Swallow (2019)
A Movie With a Purpose
My boyfriend and I really liked this movie. He didn't want to watch it at first because he said the "her eating things" would give him bad shivers all throughout... but we finally decided to watch it. We came across this movie after watching "The Girl on the Train".
I don't think the trailer for this movie does it justice. But it does lay the story right out on the table.
What I found most captivating about this movie was how much of a sweet soul Hunter is. The main character. She's so soft spoken and liked having a purpose. She'd get upset like anyone else, but she's way more pure than anyone else as well. You really feel for her.
I don't want to spoil the plot twist (if you can even call it a twist.. rather a plot "add-in") but it was powerful and in my opinion had a message. A message that dealing with problems head on, looking at fear right in the face can be just that, powerful. And helpful at that. And if you watch the movie you'll see why.
What I ended up liking most about the movie was it's ending. Simple with a strong message. In simple and few words, I'd sum up the message to, "You Never Know What Someone Else Is Going Through". What I took from the ending was to be kind to our neighbors, our sisters and most importantly, strangers. You could simply walk past a person on the street not knowing how awful their day has been. Everyone is going through something. And everyone puts on a brave face to the world.
I really really liked this movie!! Very simple but relatable. We all do things and react certain ways when we're older from experiences or traumas we faced when younger. And it *IS* possible to change our ways. And to become whole again. Every experience and trauma is sure, different than the next. But progress is possible. And life can be beautiful and simple at the same time.
I'm someone that, if I like something? I'll watch it again in a year or something.. movies & tv shows. I like to end my reviews with mentioning if this is something I'd re-watch or not. It's not captivating enough to re-watch. But it is a great one-time movie, with a great message!! Purposeful like I said.
