The Midnight Sky (2020)
No place for experimental films?
Don't take me wrong, people have every right to get disappointed by a film, and art is subjective. But what frustrates me the most is the unbelievably typical lens this movie is viewed through. If we get too busy finding 'holes' or lack of detail we might miss what the filmmaker is trying to say. If we accept the premise and try to see what's built on top of it, it's not so bad. Yes they have tried to squeeze in everything and space crew is little weak, but there's solid acting by Clooney, and visuals are beautiful. It does get little dark and sad quite few times but those are the elements they are trying to tackle. The ending wasn't too bad for me. I'm sure there would be some people who won't be able to accept just leaving Earth forever and choose to return to it no matter what. I also see the artistic reveal of "the girl never existed" getting neglected completely. All in all, it's a beautiful, experimental film. If you don't go with any specific expectations like mind-blowing scifi story, you'll enjoy it.
Luv Ni Love Storys (2020)
Good effort but unrealistic characters ruin the message
There are few good moments in the film. It tries to take some ideas from here and there but gets really slow at times. Characters keep flipping their personalities on as-needed basis. It does take on some real-life situations that I could relate with but other times it was absolutely infuriating. Hope Gujarati movies will do better.
