A waste of time
20 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't see all of it, because after a while, I found it very boring. And Queen Mab with the voice that sounded like she had laryngitis, which I at first thought was amusing, but throughout an hour of the movie it just got annoying. As for the love story between Merlin and Nimue, in my opinion, it was hurried and there was no character development at all. The characters in the movie weren't hard to figure out, it was easy to tell who was evil and who wasn't. The battle scene on the ice didn't look very convincing, except for the blood. And the racist joke when Merlin first came to see Mab in the cave wasn't amusing either.

Okay story, poor acting... Clicheed film
9 April 2006
Out of all, the story was somewhat alright, what I did not like was the acting, nor most of the lines. The acting in my opinion lacked feeling and character. Most of the events in the film could be expected. The lines were dumb especially when Ociee Nash met the president and fell down when nobody moved out of her way, then saying a little later to the president her opinion of "hurrying slowly" which the president and everybody there found to be a great idea. The only part I liked was when Ociee Nash did something heroic and "unladylike" which also pleased people later in the film. The film itself was kind of interesting though.

One word: Beautiful
5 February 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This film had a beautiful beginning and ending to it. The storyline had an intriguing plot to it: A girl called So-Eun in 1979 gets a radio and a guy called In Ji from 20 years later contacts her. They get to know each other by talking on the radio and arrange to meet at the clock tower, which they find to be impossible. The film has some beautiful scenery in the beginning and end as well. So-Eun's hospitalized friend was cute and funny and they were friends until So-Eun found out what lay ahead. The story itself was cute, sad, and humorous, mostly sad and beautiful I'd say. Sad because of what So-Eun finds out, and what goes on between the future guy and the girl of the past, but beautiful.

Sad, moving and beautiful... Ann Hui's finest of films
30 January 2006
This is one of my favorite films, I've seen it five times. A beautiful film by Ann Hui about a Cantonese girl Hueyin (Maggie Cheung) trying to be friends with her Japanese mother. Hueyin goes to Japan with her mother and there they get to know their differences and eventually understand each other. I think they understood each other the most when her mother talked of the Sino-Japanese war to Hueyin and how she and her father met. To me that was the one of the most well-acted scenes in the film. The music went well with each sad and reminiscent scene in the film, which I guess was mostly what added the drama to it. I hope Ann Hui makes more good films like this one.

Blindness,deception, and a wonderful friendship.
23 January 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I have seen four films by Zhang Yimou and this one was quite impressing to me. What impressed me was that the old man kept on lying to the blind girl called Wu Ying (Jie Dong) and they still kept a great friendship even when she had finally found out that he had been lying from the very beginning.

The old man was intent on marrying the blind girl's evil stepmother and didn't get a chance to in the end because she had found out about his deception. I felt sorry for the old man that time because of the way he took it and ended up getting injured by being hit by a large truck.

Despite the sad ending, what I enjoyed mostly was the friendship and the fact that the old man and his friends were working hard to please her in the difficult times she had and that she was even pleased to find that fact out as she hadn't gotten much attention before.

An amazing romance film by Zhang Yimou
20 January 2006
I have seen this film twice, and when I had seen it, the music made me cry because it fit so perfectly with the times in the film that Luo YuSheng (Sun Honglei) and Zhao Di (Ziyi Zhang) have met. I had almost felt the emotions that Zhao Di felt in times of sadness. It is a very well done film about a romance between a high class teacher and a common girl. She shows her love by cooking him dumplings and setting them on the table for him to see. Mostly, what made me love this film was the scenery and the sentimentality Luo YuSheng showed toward Zhao Di. It made me really like him and it made me want them to be together. He became my favorite actor after that.

One of the most dramatic films I've seen
19 January 2006
Warning: Spoilers
When I first saw this, I was so pleased at what I saw. It wasn't what I expected. Good acting from my favourite actresses (Maggie Cheung, Ziyi Zhang) and some beautiful scenery. The film about a warrior (Jet Li) who wants to complete his mission in revenge for the army that killed his people. A bit too much flying around, though. The fencing was beautifully executed and there weren't many gory scenes in the movie either. Tony Leung played Broken Sword, who was the most peaceful man in the film, seemed to teach everyone a lesson in kindness and peace. The dramatic ending made me cry, because Moon's lover died before she could stop him from being killed by Flying Snow.
