One of the Most Well Rounded Shows I've Seen
6 April 2009
When I heard about this show being airing on HBO, I was thrilled. My father had read several of the books and loved them (I have just started the first book). Although, from the first moments of the show I was still a bit skeptical. But when Mma opens her detective agency, the writing becomes some of the best I've seen on TV in years. There is a perfect mix between seriousness and fabulous humor.

Mma is a clever, witty woman, while her secretary and hairdresser add nothing more than many wonderful laughs. This show has fantastic characters played by wonderful actors.

I can only hope that this show stays on for many years to come!

It's a shame people usually see the '78 version more.
22 August 2007
After years of searching, I finally was able to rent a copy from my library. I've got to say, when I first started looking for it, I should've just bought it! The camera angles are AMAZING, especially when the main characters first find their pods in a green house (NOT A SPOILER) and the camera was placed in an odd sort of diagonal floor view, a view I haven't seen done well in a long time, and I wish movies would do it, it gave it a creepy sort of feel.

Anyway, it really does upset me when I hear that people usually just talk about how good the 1978 version was and say they never saw the original, frankly, I thought the '78 version was trying to hard to make this classic a new age horror.

The Birds (1963)

A wonderful movie from the master of suspense!
23 June 2006
First off, Tippi Hedren was great for the part. This movie just shows that you don't need to have ANY music in a movie just to make it scary. It's great how Hitchcock slowly builds up the suspense, as he does in all his movies. The scary thing about this movie is that when you see it, it is not only scary to see these innocent people being attacked by the birds, but it's also sort of psychologically scary because Hitchcock almost forces you to believe that this could really happen at any time when we least expect it. In my opinion, the only REALLY scary scene is when Melanie goes upstairs and is attacked by the birds and is basically trapped, what makes that scene so scary was that the it shows the birds coming right at the camera and also that they show so many times the birds biting her hand in the same place, you feel likes it's almost happening to you. An excellent film but you might not want to see it if you are already a little afraid of birds.
