Civilisations: The Cult of Progress (2018)
Industral Revolution Art: the Real Enviornments Behind Its Creation
This shows why male artists who never left coal dust choked western Europe and never saw harem women in a Turkish were impelled to paint such fantasies in the wake of Napolian's invasion of Egypt. Also how a visit of Picasso to a Museum of Ethnography was connected to a major change in his art. This episode looks at the reality connected with the styles of art that I have seen ignored by programs focused on only the brushwork and advances in the technology of producing art. Disney would certainly turn this down. This series does not provide the formulaic manipulation of emotions required for any Disney production. It explores how artists and photographers expressed the divide they saw between the "Cult of progress" and its real effect on people. It gives the background of the upcoming artists' revolt against the rule of immortalizing the rich and powerful and landscape escapism. In the revolt such artists moved the common person to front and center with that person's reality about them.
