Pathaan: An electrifying actioner that beats all odds and prejudices
26 January 2023
Pathaan is that slice of top-notch actioner we all deserved big time. Rather than a hero who superficially defeats every villainous elements thrown against him, we get here a more lively, quirky protagonist, who is human, gets his fair share of thrash before bouncing back. The best thing you can get from this movie is Shah Rukh Khan providing his co-stars (that includes even cameos) ample room to shine rather than carrying the entire film on his shoulder like a one-man show. It ensures it's success is a collective effort.... At 57, Shah Rukh Khan gracefully handles action like how more newbie actors like Tiger Shroff handles, which is commendable.... After all, age is just a number🙌 John Abraham and Deepika Padukone were a delight to watch on screen. While John is a seasoned action star, Deepika came out of syllabus! Moments when the trio shares the screen guarantee claps and roars.

Altogether, Pathaan is a pure theatrical experience and deserved to be watched in a packed cinema hall with a lively audience. There are moments when the theatre turns into a stadium, which enough makes the film a paisa vasool feat. Though one might tend to feel certain drawbacks, they are all minor and does not, in any way, pulls the film back. While the end credits roll, you'll only wish for more of Pathaan and his charm. Sure shot blockbuster and certainly worth your money.

NGK (2019)

A Cult Classic Unfinished
31 May 2019
If you are a person who is interested in watching your conception of a hero entering the scene in slow motion, accompanied by terrific background scores and thrashing the villains, and delivering powerful dialogues, then i suggest you stop reading this piece now. NGK is not your cup of tea. Sorry. The best part of NGK is that a person of star value like Suriya agreed to portray a down to earth character. I was of the belief that Tamil cinema had two conceptions of a aam aadmi hero. One who is a macho, which is obviously portrayed by a superstar; and another, a person who actually suffers hardships, portrayed by a lesser known actor like it happened in Pariyerum Perumal. In NGK, Suriya proves again that he can deliver the best of natural acting. Nanda Gopalan Kumaran can be you neighbour, your friend, or some guy who sits next to you in a train. To appreciate Suriya's performance, I didn't see him in NGK. There was only NGK, and the people around him. I liked it that Selvaraghavan tried to reduce drama and make it more of a realistic classy flick. It was definitely a risk to cast an actor of immense popularity like Suriya for a story that can happen in your neighborhood. Though my only suggestion is that he could have supervised the editing procedure especially in the second half of the movie. A classic movie not necessarily come with a stellar cast. A movie maker succeeds when he delivers a good movie from a fresh cast, I would like to mention on this note, Angamaly Diaries, which had fresh faces and became a cult classic in Malayalam cinema. The supporting cast done justice to the term, they were supportive enough. The leading ladies. Here, I thought i have a little bit of resentment to express. Selvaraghavan movies are popular for its strong female characters. Sai Palalvi and Rakul Preet Singh in NGK had strong roles. But the character development was poor, thanks to script. The point when there was this romantic song featuring Suriya and Rakul, I knew that the story is taking the path down. The politics of NGK is great. Selva had defenitely done his homework. Sadly nobody noticed the fact that along with the issues faced by farmers, the movie also stresses on how youngsters who have no political interests are forced to join political parties. Today, even to get a small matter done, influence of political parties has become necessary. There are negatives which is bound to happen when a popular director has the chance to make a movie with his favorite actor. Every director might want that film to be a commercial success. No one can blame him for it. Selva could have made a better NGK, but creative freedom is to be considered. One main problem is that audience has not grown to accept an ordinary film from their extra ordinary hero. Extraordinary expectations are the villain for this good attempt of a movie.

Not a Movie, But Life as it is
13 February 2019
It is not easy to give ten ratings out of ten for any movie. But Kumbalangi Nights deserve it. It is never a movie. Because a movie requires acting, artificial setting of events, perceptions, incidents forcing you either to laugh or to cry or whatever. Kumbalangi opposes everything including the preset norms of the society and the conventions in cinema and everything. Of course there are elements which the movie could have done better without. But the movie becomes a success by making the audience ignorant about it's flaws. The perfection within the movie stays in our mind the moment we enter out of the theater post movie. Shane Nigam proves to be a promise for Malayalam cinema. He is natural when it comes to acting. His biggest achievement is letting go of the permanent gloom upon his face which was spotted in his early movies. Shane as Bobby is energetic. Soubin Shahir creates new boundaries for comedy actors by proving that he is an all-rounder once again. The actor portraying the youngest brother was also good though he shared less screen space than his co-actors. The biggest performance in the movie is obviously Fahad Faasil's. The guy nailed his role with cent percent perfection. To portray a grey shade character during the peak time of his career is the biggest risk for any actor. Still Fahad chosing the character proves his dedication to film industry. Shammi is creepy but his character will influence you throughout the movie. Normally the trend is that an actor do one perfect role in his career, he is hailed by the population as well as the social media and by the very next film, he is termed 'not up to the mark like the previous.' Fahad Faasil is one of the rarest of actors who are beyond such terminologies. The pillars holding the plot intact are the female characters in the movie. Though it is not necessarily a women-centrist movie, the ladies have done justice to their part with their bold performances. Each female character had to face consequences. They are subject to misogyny and sexism. But at some point or the other they break the traditional norms which sets cage to women. There is no Kumbalangi Nights without the women. Shyam Pushkaran deserves the most praise for this movie. Through the movie, at instances I have thought how in the world did this dude get to this ideas. I give him a big salute for conceiving the character of Shammi and developing it. It requires extreme creativity to go deep into psychological tremors experienced by mentally challenged person who happens to be a chauvinist. The claps happening towards the climax is the proof of Shyam's creative genius mind. For a debutante, Madhu C Narayanan did justice in directing this movie. Never in an instance did the movie made the audience feel like this is the first directorial attempt of a person which is an excellent start. The setting of the movie is great and provides a vibe. The beauty of the rural was brilliantly portrayed through Kumbalangi, the island. Shaan Rahman's music was exceptionally great. I will never term any movie, ' a must watch' but I have to say this: "Kumbalangi nights is that one movie which makes you forget about the money you spent for it"

Marvellous😍😍😍
21 December 2018
Entering Out Of The Theatre After Watching 'ZERO' , I felt proud that Indian Cinema VFX has grown enough to challenge hollywood level. Anand L Rai made sure that he made the faces coming out of theatre happy and satisfied. First Half Of The Movie Was a Lucca ALR style one being woven with Comic and Romantic Sequences. In the second half, he tried to do the best successful experiment in Indian Cinema.

Coming to the biggest positive of the movie: "SHAH RUKH KHAN"......I was stunned by his performance especially in the climax. Bauaa secured a place in our hearts.......He Is one of the very few actors who improvises ten times with each movie. SRK did justice to his part.

Anushka rocked throughout. She was splendid in emotional scenes. Katrina delivered her best performance though it may feel if her character was at all necessary.

Red chillies VFX was far ahead from awesome. Lacking words to describe.......Engaging and visual treat

Overall Verdict: AWESOME 😍

The Beauty Of Simplicity
22 November 2018
The beauty of the protective feeling when your loved one loves you from within the heart but he/she doesn't showcase the feeling due to insecurity but is always there to protect you when you are low. That feeling is a blessing for many. Satyendra aka Sattu was always the protective shield to Aarti, his beloved who left him. Rajkumar Rao once again proved that the future of Bollywood is safe in his hands. Kriti Kharbanda's bollywood debut was through a cool movie. The movie has a little bit of cliche dialogues but it makes you feel good after the first watch. Please watch if you are a romantic movie lover

A Thriller Which Fails To Engage The Audience
21 November 2018
The movie gives us one big disappointment. It being that the spectacular performance put forward by the lead actor, Joju George and his magnanimous contribution and the dedication were all futile. The movie was poorly directed and had the screenplay has no soul. Enter with below average expectations and you might get satisfied with an average experience. The movie has story sequences which are illogically connected. There is no focus for the story. The plot actually developes towards the climax which makes us feel like the entire three fourth portion of the movie was cooked up for the sake of the climax. Though the movie was supposed to be an emotional thriller, it doesn't give justice to the genre. We can see shades of many crime movies from malayalam industry itself throughout the movie.

The performance of Joju was simply fantastic. This movie might be the best performance of the actor so far. He portrayed the grey shade character of the protagonist with ease. His appearence was that of a negative character. But in such an attire, he managed the audience to feel sympathy for him at many instances. I wish he had been in a better movie with better script and a better director,

The movie is a failed attempt to engage the audience which becomes a big negative. The narrative style of the movie is not good enough to comment on.

The movie might be good to watch with low expectations. Overall, this would have been loads better.
