David Frost Interviews Richard Nixon (1977)
It's not Illegal
ksf-2 in a comment states we don't get to hear Mr. Nixon say 'if the President does it...it's not illegal' I beg to differ. My comment regards the David Frost Interviews Richard Nixon two DVD set...the re-release of the interviews originally done in 1977 which is the set ksf-2 left comment upon. He states it was an entertaining hour and a half. The interviews feature two sections on the first DVD and three sections on the second. My word, this presentation runs at least 6 hours and it is all fascinating as it regards real events which are admittedly now historical. Besides discussing Watergate. Mr. Nixon whole Presidency is examined by Mr. Frost...the actual point to hear Mr. Nixon say 'if the President does it...it's not illegal can be heard starting at the 35th minute on the first section 'War At Home and Abroad' of the second DVD. Plain as day. Absorbing.
Hotel Rwanda (2004)
in Paul's words
"This movie is supposed to tell the truth of what has happened in Rwanda so that what has happened in our country might not happen anywhere else in the world. It is a good reason it is supposed to be a good reason to the international community for them at least to one day if this such another situation they could say let us not make the same mistakes as we did in Rwanda." Paul Rusesabagina The film succeeds with that mission...whether the message is paid heed or not. I understood this film was made to depict what actually happened in Rwanda in 1994 to tell Paul's story of what life was like as a Hutu assistant hotel manager elevated to manager which the viewer could only have experienced in a nightmare while asleep.
Slumdog Millionaire (2008)
Imagine
Imagine buying 'Slumdog Millionaire' when it hit the stores...pitching the receipt already...enjoying it big time...and then finding some hours later...just trailers for other films under special features...NO making of featurette...NO director's commentary...NO deleted scenes. The special features as advertised on the case of the 'Slumdog Millionaire' DVD I bought aren't there. So while I am just a slum dog, I will have to buy another copy of this super film from a different store...save the receipt...take it home... check it out and hope all of the special features are there. I must say I went in cold...only knowing it has received critical acclaim. I can only imagine the special features are as rewarding as the film was provided I can find a copy of the DVD that actually has the special features as advertised.
Disneyland: The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh: Part 1 (1963)
Dr. Syn, The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh
Am wondering when Disney will release this to DVD. There must be pent-up demand for the Scarecrow. What's it been...more than 40 years? I seem to remember seeing it as a child. I am no longer a child. It is next to impossible to contact Disney on such a mundane matter. I think it was shown on the Wonderful World of Color. Perhaps it was just a dream. With titles like the Painted Desert and Living Seas now in release...it should be just a matter of time before The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh gets a place on a store shelf somewhere. Would love to see this program again in case anyone from Disney surfs feedback on their products on IMDb.com. Please make an old man happy.
