Why are there so many jokes that are not funny?
29 April 2023
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 had a lot of jokes...yet not a single one landed for me. I found the movie incredibly un-funny. The CGI, while not terrible, could have been a lot better.

That being said, the movie was still somewhat entertaining, particularly with the introduction of Tails and Knuckles, which was a highlight for fans of the game.

Overall, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a mediocre watch and certainly not a comedic masterpiece. It is a fun ride though for fans of the franchise and provides a somewhat entertaining addition to the Sonic universe. Hopefully they decide to put more quality into the writing and acting to seriously improve the Sonic movieverse.

IT is Good
29 April 2023
"It" is a thrilling horror movie that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. The acting was superb and the pacing of the storytelling was just right. I appreciated how the film didn't rely on cheap jump scares, but instead used well-crafted scare scenes with intricate effects to build tension and terror. The mix of cgi and practical effects added a depth of realism that made the horror feel all the more intense. The music was also fantastic and elevated the movie to new heights. Overall, "It" is a must-watch for horror fans looking for a spine-chilling and well-crafted cinematic experience."

Quirky, Strange, and Definitely a Harley Quinn Movie
29 April 2023
Birds of Prey is an epic and fun action movie that delivers chaotic and humorous storytelling in a way that only a Harley Quinn movie could. Margot Robbie's performance is phenomenal, and her portrayal of the character is spot-on. The sets and choreography are creative and visually stunning, adding to the overall excitement of the film.

One aspect of the movie that stands out is how well it portrays Harley Quinn's point of view. The audience is taken on a wild ride through her perspective, and it's a thrilling experience. The all-female team-up at the end of the movie was actually quite good and actually has a legitimate reason behind it, unlike some other movies that have shoehorned in similar scenes without much justification.

Strange World? More like Strange Writing
29 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Less than 15 mins in I was considering to not complete the movie bc of the cringy scenes, clique lines, and the voice acting of his son that was hard to digest. Just like our characters, I decided to still embark on this journey, but I ended up having less of an adventure....in fact i had no adventure at all. I got so bored i decided to spend my time critiquing this movie while watching as it was more fun than watching the movie.

The creative world and vivid animation is ruined by choppy writing, shallow characters, senseless character motivation, poorly developed plot, and very...very...very dry "humor". Dialogue seemed to have been written by a pre-teen on a fiction writing forum and if it wasnt for the animation, i would have never finished the movie.

A couple of actual examples of stupid moments:
  • The dad knows that splat is a bad creature and is with the son but than doesnt acknowledge it later when splat is cool w the son
  • the grandad just has a flamethrower in this underground world???? How
  • Ship is crashed badly and then one person fixes it in like 10 mins???

  • "That was so primal outpost!" - primal outpost is a game in this workd... this doesnt even make any sense. Its like saying "That was so Valorant!"
  • They invented a form of really advanced flying and they never exployed enough of their world to understand they live on a giant creature???

I love Paddington
29 April 2023
Paddington 2 is a sequel that surpasses the original in every aspect. The cinematography is simply stunning, offering captivating and imaginative visuals that transport you into Paddington's world. The quality of the CGI is so impressive that it's easy to forget that the titular character is a computer-generated bear.

But it's not just the technical aspects that make this movie great. The humor is on-point and consistently hilarious throughout the film, leaving you with a smile on your face. It's a movie that doesn't rely on cheap laughs or over-the-top gags, but instead manages to strike a perfect balance between witty dialogue and silly slapstick moments.

One thing that really stands out about Paddington 2 is the attention to detail. From the smallest prop to the most minor character, every element of the movie feels purposeful and well-crafted. This adds to the overall enjoyment of the film and makes it feel like a fully-realized world.

Overall, Paddington 2 is a wholesome and charming movie that manages to be both entertaining and heartwarming. Whether you're a fan of the original movie or just looking for a fun family-friendly film, Paddington 2 is definitely worth checking out.

Puss in Boots
17 April 2023
I thoroughly enjoyed this film, it was impeccably executed and entertaining. The voice actors nailed their deliveries and Death was actually portrayed as an imposing and terrifying character. A big factor was the amazing soundtrack, but also Wagner Moura's amazingly fearful voice.

What really sold the movie for me was the animation. They actually paid attention to every detail and the style was incredible - looking a lot like the comic book style that Into the Spiderverse nailed and they even animated on 2's giving a similar feel. The animation was incredibly vibrant and the unique color scheme was a visual treat.

The balance between dark and light humor was handled with finesse, resulting in a well-rounded and satisfying experience. The sock joke was so unexpectedly dark it had me laughing with a smile...maybe i'm just pleased by the wrong things but it was definitely refreshing that they would do that. Overall, an outstanding and enjoyable watch.

47 Ronin (2013)

This is of course not the actual 47 ronin story nor should you use that to critic this
17 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was a plane watch for me and I had annoying glare on my screen for a good portion, but I actually did enjoy this.

There's some critic about this film because of it not being true to the 47 ronin story. Although, it chooses to stay vaguely close while adding its own fictional twist to it, I see that as totally okay and it should not be judged bc of the source material.

It manages to have a surprisingly cool blend of traditional samurai film with modern CGI. Although not the best all the time, it was just really cool to see in general and actually kept me on my toes in the beginning, being able to see a traditional samuari take on a wild fictional demon beast. The movie is slow and the actors are kind of stiff, but honestly that's just kinda how older movies are, which it purposelly stayed close to that style. Knowing that, I wasn't too bothered.

Charming and Loveable watch
17 April 2023
Paddington is a well-mannered, caring, clumsy, and charming bear and Ben Whishaw voiced all of those characteristics perfectly.

This is a lighthearted and absurd movie but actually a perfect mix of creative storytelling, refreshingly comedic moments, fun action and adventure, and of course lots of wholesomeness. Although it is more of a younger audience watch, originating from a childrens book, it did not feel exclusively that at all and even had adult references.

CGI was actually really good and the fur shots were clean, some of them made me surprised even. This is definitely a great feel good watch for anyone!

Incredible performance and execution
17 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was extremely hard hitting on the symbolism, morals and themes. Just like one of the main themes of the story, honesty, the characters reflect that as well. They all seem to be portrayed in one way, like the daughter being a f-cked up human being or the mother being despising, but we come to learn there's more to them, just like with anyone in life. Branden Fraser is that truth lens for us, allowing us to understand his daughter's internal greatness and the care and strength his wife has. Yet, despise his positiveness, we are also introduced to the realities of depression. Despite him truthfully having care for everyone and not wanting to be a burden to anyone and wanting others around him and the world to be truthful...he has literally killed himself by not being truthful toward himself. He has ignored his well being for the sake of others and he has lost all motivation to better himself because of his own perception of himself, punishing himself even. However, the truth is painfully but necessarily given to him by his daughter, and she becomes the catalyst to help him, as she did to the new life guy. Although not in health, he was able to be freed at the end.

The reason this movie isn't perfect for me however, is actually also because it is adapted from a play. With an almost constant sequence of back and forth conversation/argument and monologues, it just feels less and less like a full-fledged movie, despite how great it was to watch.

Overall, this film is a must watch for anyone. It's raw and powerful and wonderfully executed. It's amazing how they only used one location but in a way that didn't feel too boring. Everyone had great acting, but specifically for me Brendan Fraser, Sadie Sink, and Hong Chau had the most moving moments.

The Sea Beast (2022)

Surprisingly good watch, but not amazing in my books
17 April 2023
Predictable storyline but great story moral that is actually pretty relevant. Within the guise of a younger audience movie, it manages to hit topics like losing one's self morals bc society thinks another way, the alteration of history for political reason and the belief of it, and even the endless animosity between different groups that could be stopped by a catalyst. Doesn't get too deep of course, but I thought it was interesting.

Besides the story, animation is really good and the water scenes were really well done. Sound was good and really helped scenes be comedic, uplifting, or ominous. Acting was okay, but I thought almost all the characters were too static. The male main character was the only one who really had development, and surprisingly the female character just remained the same throughout. Which is fine for her to keep her values and all that, but she didn't struggle or even went through sadness.

Overall, this movie was executed well but it's averageness in characters and story arcs kept it from being great.

The Perfect Adaptation
10 April 2023
I don't think I would have liked this movie adapted any other way. It's a great adapt of the games, but in a way that stays true to the video game style, references, and world. It even helps setup a film world for them to expand on more movies well. It's both enjoyable to kids and to adults and although its scatted with easter eggs it's still just a fun film to watch not knowing them. The animation was actually really good, voice actors were great, and although it moves fast, I think it still works that way. Story-wise it's not trying to do too much in unnecessary areas, and I think that actually helps it feel like you're watching a video game. If you have no other reason to watch it, this is all you need: Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad. That's hilarious the cast is even like that.

A refreshing action movie
10 April 2023
Despite not watching the previous John Wick movies, this was still amazing. I would say that it didn't have to be that long and there definitely could have been some small cuts at least.

John Wick is all about the action and I like how they don't try to bs things too much like other action movies. The action scenes were one of a kind. Long and intense choreography over intesely fun music, mixed with the challenge of weapon/ride swapping, and even topped off with creative cinematography. The top down scene is the pinnacle of that. It was both intense and fun and something i've never seen before in an action movie. I couldnt help to smile at how mind blown I was for watching it.

Hmmmm
6 March 2021
Animation was decent, but story was very middle. It was fun watching him be op but there were a lot of cliche and a lot of random moments that didn't make sense and was almost comedic. Singing toward the last battles with his fan union were random and came out of nowhere and unnecessary. None of the climactic moments were exciting because they were extremely predictable.

Not perfect, but a really good watch
22 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This show was a random find but was really worth it to watch. It was unique and eccentric and will make you interested in chess!

There were a few things that i thought made it lacking of a higher rating (spoilers):
  • Her last training scene with Benny was a huge amount because of how amazing she got without using drugs and alcohol. However, this was barely stressed and explored with her struggle of addiction and growth. It was only pointed out at the beginning that Benny didn't allow alcohol.
  • The last chess match scene with Bogor was really intense because it drew the audience into a real chess match and helped us understand what position Beth is in and what she does to overcome it and win. This felt like the only time they did that with a chess match scene - everything else felt like it was cut short and automatically skipped to the end of the chess game.

Great watch overall
29 August 2020
BNA was overall a light but enjoyable watch. The animation was stunning and soundtracks were great, but honestly some scenes were oddly mixed with soundtracks, like it didn't exactly fit the mood or was unneccesary at times. Honestly, I would have liked to have seen this take a darker turn or focus more on the dark side of the experiments of Michuru, but it seemed to have been more of a light and friendly theme to the show. Nothing wrong with that, but I think they missed some oppurtunities on diving deeper on some characters/relationships.

Almost purrfect
4 July 2020
Visuals were amazingly stunning and 10/10 for me. Story was light-hearted, uncommon, but I thought it fell through at the end. Trying not to spoil here, but the logic of how they were gonna solve their problem seemed weird. Weird as in there's kind of a goal, but then not rlly, and then everything just works out? Definitely could have been done better as far as how everything ends. Also, the music seemed off to me and drew away the impact of some scenes. There were some parts where the music just didn't match the tone of the scene and I was confused on what the emotional intent was supposed to be.

However, it's still a great feel good watch and it's cute and lovely how the end turns out for our protagonist!

Piece of Art
26 December 2018
Not exactly my flavor of movie, but wow was this a piece of art. The cinematography, blocking, and story was very carefully and beautifully crafted. Amazing homage and story. It's slow paced and a slice of life, but everyone should watch this.
