The Beauty of The Bizarre
This is the most wholesome film I've seen in a while. It's Napoleon Dynamite meets Silver Linings. There are so many heartfelt moments while also being light-hearted. Being someone who has always understood the art of comics from a young child, this hits close. In addition, the casting (Like all A24 films) was absolutely brilliant. I felt a deep connection yet a envious feeling with the protagonist. Innocence in someone brings love to them, but also protection and fear instilling. I found the entire film intriguing. I understand that not everyone will enjoy or understand this film. It is for a specific audience that can find the whole in a strange scenario. It takes an open mind and a loving heart. Which ironically, is what the film teaches it's audience. If one has the patience to finish it. I say it's well worth the time.
El hoyo (2019)
Climax lost me.
Being someone that tends to have an open mind and enjoys films outside of my native language, and being a diehard horror fan, I felt I'd give this Netflix Horror flick a try. I was enjoying the well written, very convincing film. The characters had vivid, complex pasts that made me feel connected to them emotionally. Not only this, but the thrill and horror had me clenching my seat waiting for the fate of the next victim. My love for the theme was abruptly halted when I reached the climax only to discover that the entire film was a metaphor for Jesus. For some people, that fact may be an exiting, but for me, this was a greatly disappointing turn of events. This is just some information about those interested in this movie. I did not find any interest in watching a christian horror film.
The Florida Project (2017)
Heartbreaking, Heartfelt
Absolutely beautiful, realistic story about the sufferings of single parents and poverty in modern America through the eyes of a little girl. This was shockingly accurate. From the performance of this talented child, to set design in this film, this may hit too close to home for some viewers. Stunning performance by Willem Defoe as well. This film is well worth your time.
