Same Kind of Different as Me (2017)
Bring some Kleenex
We were excited to see this film. We like almost any film that is "based on a true story". We especially like the "follow up" that comes at the end of such movies. "Same Kind" was not a disappointment on either front. It was powerful. It was deep. It was very dramatic. It was an eye-opener. I think I spent the last 30 minutes with tears in my eyes--but good tears. Would highly recommend this as a "must see" movie.
The Family Man (2000)
All fans of Nicholas Cage will like this movie
This is not your typical Christmas movie. There's no Santa Claus or visit to the North Pole. It is more of a "seasonal" movie with only a vague reference to the Christmas holiday. Nicholas Cage is such a great actor; he gives such a passionate portrayal in this role. And the rest of the cast does a great job too, especially the little girl who plays "Jack's" daughter. It's a great story of understanding what really matters in life. There are a few subplots that don't detract from the main story line of the love that Jack finds as a tire salesman; quite the departure from his high flying job in New York. Definitely worth watching. It's been on my "holiday" "must see" list since 2000. It should be on yours too.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)
Great for a T. S. Elliot novice
This was a great movie. I have not read the Chronicles of Narnia, but was broadly aware of their content. This movie was well acted for the most part. I really enjoyed the character of the youngest sister. I also enjoyed the fact that while the story of redemption was obvious, I did not feel like it hit me over the head like a brick. I know some people have a hard time with fantasy-type movies, but sometimes they succeed in getting a point across better. I find they also make me think more about what I'm watching--a good thing. I have seen the movie twice already. We will be buying the video when it comes out. I would recommend it, but it may be a little frightening for very young children and for people who are very sensitive to animals being hurt.
