A easy plot to write
After I watched Anna, I come to see Lucy because some viewers comment highly on this movie. However, to my disappointment it is not to me comparable with Anna.
The female lead is much older. And there is no handsome men in the film. With a woman with super power, she can do anything and this makes the plot very easy to write.
The movie fails to capture my attention.
I cannot give a high rating.
Who care if the movie if is really authentic?
After seeing some of the reviews, mostly bad ones, I come to know that the director is actually the one of Leon and Fifth Element. No wonder he demonstrates in his shooting that he is an very experienced spy film director.
If you are the viewers who demand everything to be authentic, especially whether the use of computer and phone are actually of the age of the story, and whether a super model could possibly kill whole lots of men alone, I advise you not to see the movie. True, it is unrealistic. For me, however, as long as the storyline is reasonable and it is entertaining, I would not find fault on the movie.
The story is entertaining and audience-friendly in the following ways. The actor of Anna is well picked. She is beautiful and stylish. The costume she wears is smart and trendy. Since she likes playing chess, she makes me think of the female lead of the present Netflix heat Queen's Gambit, only that Anna is a much more charming girl. My only complaint on the casting would be choice of her two lovers, who are not handsome enough to be in par with Anna.
The fighting choreography is up to standard. I especially like his arrangement to repeat some scenes in order to show the behind scenes. This is friendly to the audience, so we will be always in catching with the intriguing story.
I confess that I have not watched many spy movies and I would not compare Anna with the rest heats. That may be why I think the present story is just awesome. But that's me.
Seven Pounds (2008)
An exceptional story
Hardly can I imagine Will Smith act in such a sad story. The story line is atypical, and we can only find the answer towards the end of the movie. And it is so surprising to know that he contributes his life to those need transplant of organs. His life is terminated by a jellyfish, the one his dad showed it to him when he was young.
In real life, however, so many people committed error but deny his fault, not to say to compensate to the sufferers of his error. If everyone is Ben, the world will be so much a better place.
A disaster for my English homework
I have to write a summary to my English teacher every time I see a movie. For movie with no ups and down, no stunning storyline and no twist, it is so difficult for me to write a long summary. And it is difficult simply to memorise the content.
Usually I prefer a movie with a clear storyline, and not those just like a virtual real life show, but for movies depicting life of a female, especially an elder one, like this one.
Female lead is 60. Her husband died and she regretted in the way the medical treatment she chose for him. She has a sister that invites the female lead to live with her in the house. But she refuses. A male nomad invites the female lead to stay with him, and she refuses. She loves the life being a nomad.
On her way in her mobile home she works in Amazon, cafe... to earn a living She meets nomads from all walks of life. Like a lady with cancer, a father who loses his son, a young lad running away from his parents. The nomads would gather together for a party, to hold a campfire.... They stay together in a site, leaving to step on their own ways, and may meet sometime by fate. Life of them is just full of uncertainty. But that is that way the like.
I will be on my way to 60. I will have knee pain as the female lead do. I admire her courage to venture. I admire the new way of life so many people turn to be - being nomads.
Enola Holmes (2020)
Like his sister rather than Sherlock Homles
I am not a fans of Sherlock Homles. I have never watched any of the Homles series. But friends recommend this one and I find it delightful to watch.
Sherlock Homles series is to me kind of horrible films, with murder scenes occurred at night. I am never motivated to watch. But Enola Homles is a completely different genre.
Tau man ji D (2005)
Jay Chou won the best new performer award?
I enjoy the movie very much. Every actor is well picked and acts well, except, Jay Chou. Of course it is delightful to see him in the movie, with Jay being a super singer. But this is utterly because of his fame. I do not think he is acting well, with his square face.
Having said that, the acting of Jay Chou is my only complaint. The rest of the movie is simply perfect. I just cannot figure out why I would miss this movie for so long.
To hok wai lung (1991)
Goodbye to Ng Man Tat
One of the best comedy by Stephen Chow in coperation with Ng. Cannot hold the laughter watching it thirty years after its production. An everlasting classic that last through generation to generation. Ng will not be forgotten....a for apple, b for banana.........
Hotel Mumbai (2018)
Keep you excited each every minute
Story is on the whole well written, though there are minor unreasonable scenes. The terrorists do not occupy the CCTV room? They do not explode the VIP room when they first discover people inside?
Other than the above, the movie is so intense that it captures all my attention.
The anti-terrorist troop can only reach the scene 12 hours after?? While we have to salute to the hotel staff, the Indian government has to be responsible for the lives of those being killed.
Chak daan juen ga (2017)
Goodbye to Liu Kai Chi
I watched the sequel before this one. Andy Lau looks much younger and smart. The plot, however, is not as sophisticated as its sequel, but it still have decent story lines.
Seldom does Hong Kong produce such a huge budget film. The explosion scenes are authentic and terrific. Another must watch.
Liu Kai Chi was died of cancer yesterday. Hate to say goodbye for so many times this year.
Zhan lang II (2017)
Decent action film
The movie is packed with remarkable action scenes. Acting of the male lead is terrific. Weakness lies in the plot, where I think it can be cut short to make the story more intense.
Shock Wave 2 (2020)
Comparable to Infernal Affairs
The story line is so enchanting, with lot of twist. Its plot is comparable to that of Infernal affairs. The bombing scene is simply terrific. It must have made with big investment. The movie ends with how Andy Lau first met with the female lead. It is a good ending with a little bit of surprise.
There are some lines that are irrational. But you simply cannot remember that clearly with the fast pace of the story development.
I would say it is another memorable movie since the Infernal Affairs. Only that if I am given the power I will give Infernal Affairs a score of more than ten.
Thanks for Andy Lau, all the cast and the production team for making another yet memorable movie for Hong Kong.
San Andreas (2015)
An average disaster film
Technical effect of the film is spectacular. But the plot is very weak. Storyline is too weak and illogical. The male lead is like a superman with great power. Everytime he manages to save his family just by coincidence. The scriptwriter fails to produce a storyline that justify male lead's successful rescue. No wonder the overall rating is below 7.
Little Big Women (2020)
Resonate with the life of women
There is no amazing plot. Not many twist in the story. However, I just feel the director uses his heart to shoot the movie.
Lot of women in actual life face the betrayal of husband, cancer, sour relationship with husband and kids. The movie just resonates our lives.
I am just relieved to see the grandma finally forgive her husband and let go the past.
It is a harsh fact that women always face the betrayal of husband in actual life. It is unfair to ask women to forgive their husband. But forgiveness is a gift to ourselves. Let go of the past free us women. We have to perhaps to accept that women are born to face betrayal. We have somehow to accept this fate. And if we are given a second chance make sure that you make a correct choice before marriage.
My Octopus Teacher (2020)
He is in love with a lady octopus
Yes, it is the most touching and incredible documentary of sea animals. Animal documentary is all along not my cup of tea.
On second thought, is he abusing his octopus friend? Or in essence we audience are abusing him?
This is the most beautiful documentary I have ever seen. In spite of that, I do not wish to see this genre of documentary again.
The plot is sophisficated and is difficult to follow. Female lead has psychosis? The past call and the girl 20 years ago is just her imagination?
Acting of the girl in the past is impressive. Her facial expression is so horrible. However, all the scenes are within the house. It makes the movie so boring, kind of haunting house story. Simply this genre is not my cup of tea.
6.7 is the appropriate rating
I watch the film for Sung and Kim. Their performance in Descendant of the Sun and Mr Sunshine is terrific. Seeing this movie, however, I get to know that Korean scientific film is far behind Hollywood. I can bearly finish watching it.
Ng goh siu hai dik hau jeung (2015)
Based on a true story, Yang acts as a kindergarten of a nearly bankrupt school. She tries her best to save the school and is successful to protect it from closing down.
The small child actors are cute and lovely. Yang's acting is not very impressive, but gets a passing rate.
We need more of this positive story to boost the spirit of our society. Hope more of this type of plots are coming.
Re Xue He Chang Tuan (2020)
Hope to lift the rating
My friend told me this is a fantastic story. I watch it and does not find it an amazing one, but surely a rating of 4.8 is incredibly low.
The story is far from captivating, just follow the formular of a teacher-inspiring-student movie. But with the presence of Andy Lau, you will have a guaratine of certain quality. The setting, the school campus, the costume, and as small as the music score file are all well chosen. The role of parents, headmaster, director of school, enemy conductor are all acted by famous star. For foreigners, in fact the enemy conductor is actually a true music director.
I cannot say that it is very impressing, but surely it got a passing rate.
Gi-eok-ui bam (2017)
Regret in watching
The story line is unreasonable. The ending is extremely tragic. I should not have watched it.
The World of the Married (2020)
Textbook for married women
First, not to act as a bad guy in the family and press your child to study. One day when you divorce he may not opt to live with you.
Second, to monitor from time to time not to let anyone mortgage your house and insurance for loan.
Third, love yourself before your family.
Fourth, forgiveness is always the best strategy. It is reseached that the one who is at fault always underestimate the influence of their act to the sufferer. When the sufferer revenge, the one at fault will always think that the revenge is too extreme. So the one at fault will counter revenge on the sufferer. The sufferer will be hurt once again.
First scene is always tightening the dress
No amazing plot. A very common ancient film on love line copying the style of Pride and Prejudice and Gone with the Wind.
Acting, costume and set up is all above standard. It is just like a mini Pride and Prejudice. If you are not a highly demanding audience it is still worth watching.
Duo guan (2020)
The life of our volleyball heorin
It is actually a movie depicting the life of our greatest Chinese volleyball heroin
Beyond the Dream (2019)
Comparing to the Mad Mad World, another movie talking about mental patient, it is, to be frank, quite a boring film. The whole story has just one story line, the love line between a man with psychosis and a girl who is a clinic psychologist student.
The male lead acts well as a man with psychosis. He has illusion and always hear sounds. Our society do need more of this type of movie. But the drama could be more audience friendly if there are multi story lines and richer content.
Mak lo yan (2019)
Meaningful but not very captivating
Meaningful but not very captivating. Depicts the life of the many street residers in such a wealthy city.
The Parent Trap (1998)
Do this really happen in America?
I wonder if it is just common for devorced couple not to inform their kids they did have a sibling. This is quite unacceptable and immoral in our culture.
Other than the above the plot is well written. I cannot agree more about the part the male lead being attracted by her sexual fiance. Men are unreliable and are easily tempted.
The daughter role is adorable. Acting of the other actors is ok. I especially like the funny acting of nanny and tbe butler.
Overall it is a light and funny movie. I will recommend this movie to my friends.
