Euphoria (2019)
Finally a show that doesn't sugarcoat important issues!
I fell in love with Euphoria as soon as I got HBO Max and binged all the episodes back to back. So many shows and movies today are afraid to show the raw reality of darker issues and it just turns into a watered down unrealistic portrayal as a result. I respect this show and those involved in it for not holding back even though I'm sure they knew there would be criticism for it being "too much". It's important to show the seriousness and the intensity when addressing these issues like addiction that are dark, disturbing, emotional to watch, etc. Sugarcoating and censoring does nothing but make whatever issue that's being addressed come off on a way that diminishes the impact that the issue has on the lives of people watching the show who have actually gone through it whether the issue being addressed is a trauma, SA, abuse, addiction, mental health issues, etc. Which in turn influences watchers who can't relate as well in that it's easy to fall into the trap of not viewing things as serious as they should be viewed because these viewers aren't seeing a realistic portrayal. Zendaya's statements on her role as Rue emphasize that through the raw, powerful portrayal of Rue's struggle with addiction where viewers may hate the way the character is acting towards those close to her and the decisions she's making but they also see the extreme pain she is facing, which is why viewers (not all) continue to care about and remain hopeful for the character to be able to recover and heal, the hope is that the message extends beyond the show and viewers develop a better understanding of the pain that addicts face as they struggle and as a result have more empathy and understanding towards those struggling with addiction in general. Her Instagram post explaining all this is much more clear than my attempt lol and she goes into more detail as well so I'd encourage others to look at her recent post on Instagram responding to the attacks D. A. R. E made against Euphoria. It may help you see things differently and/or better understand her defense of Euphoria.
Johnny Depp: King of Cult (2021)
Johnny Depp never disappoints
A great portrayal of a phenomenal actor. He's both talented and passionate in his acting skills and that passion is a big part of why the roles he plays are so memorable when you think of Johnny Depp. No one can play roles he's famous for like he can. His ability to play completely different roles/movie genres instead of sticking to one genre of movies is amazing and not super common with actors. His uniqueness, talent, passion, and perseverance through difficult times is what makes him the remarkable actor that he is.
