Suitably bleak with misplaced sympathy and a fake minor character
3 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Suitably bleak with misplaced sympathy and a fake minor character.

Good to see a police show that is bleak and dark due to the tiresome daily (nightly) routine.

The copper being a kind of simp (a "mug") for a grimy, drug addicted piece of trash does not make sense, especially for his claim that he did something "good." He obviously did not.

The weaselly drug dealer with dirty curly hair is about the least intimidating criminal that could be encountered, yet he constantly gets away with making verbal threats to the copper.

Even so, all that might reasonably flow together for the type of show it is. But then a fake minor character--a gossipy diversity hire--is ridiculously out of place and takes away from the way the show develops.

The beginning foretold a weaker episode
27 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The beginning foretold a weaker episode.

Members of the Sackler family were firmly and unflinchingly devoted to their JEWISH identity.

Yet, this particular episode somehow emphasized a flashback in which some Sacklers enthusiastically and non-sarcastically proclaimed "Merry Christmas" to each other for no apparent reason in a private setting.

Purdue was correct that the real problem was the miserable, sniveling junkies. Purdue's motivation was questionable at best, but their conclusion was correct. The conclusion would have been easy to insist on had their greed not prompted them to give a full denial under oath.

Take a pill found under the stove
25 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Take a pill found under the stove. If that is what it takes. Haha. Maybe Glen should have noticed that he might have been developing a problem.

Unknown to Glen, his stepson acted as a sneaky little dirt ball doing some thieving to impress some trashy "friends."

Glen's story is amusing (in a tragic way, obviously). And it is especially important due to the annoying character Edie ensuring she remains the most dislikable individual in the show.

On top of everything else, time was wasted to show Edie visiting her brother in prison. Which seemed irrelevant and out of place regarding the flow of the story. Even Edie's brother seems to dislike her.

A chain smoking dirtbag and subtitles that waste time
2 January 2024
A chain smoking dirtbag and subtitles that waste time. Waste the time of those unfortunate enough to be unaware that the movie's brief summary does not reveal the movie's low quality.

More attention is paid to emphasizing the bad smell of the weirdo than one would ever think necessary.

Justifying the reading of subtitles for Italian dialogue would require a movie to have much more significance than this rambling bunch of nonsense.

The characters do not seem realistic, nor does the dialogue.

Nor does anything else.

Maybe unrealistic, unnecessarily convoluted "puzzle" movies can seem interesting to pseudo intellectuals.

Self-righteous lecturing from corrupt police gets tiresome
5 June 2023
Self-righteous lecturing from corrupt police gets tiresome and it continues to be a theme in this show.

The acting was of even lower quality in this episode, with unbelievable emotional outbursts and panic. It seems the actors were not given much time to prepare (or it may be that they are not very good at acting in the first place). Even Trudy seemed out of character in her small part. Kim was ridiculous, but that is usual: apparently, emotionally unstable police are supposed to be allowed to continue involvement in high-pressure situations. Kevin was weak and annoying, as usual.

Obviously, the only thing relevant or partly interesting about the episode was the interaction between Adam and Callum.

The theme seems to be weak minded police officers
30 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A Shock to the System

The theme seems to be weak minded police officers. A feminine male who stands by while his colleagues are attacked, presumably while he daydreams about older men. A joyless, pothead female. And a male who prefers overeating to fitness.

Within a system that considers self defense to be "murder."

Red Pete is weird, but somewhat interesting in that he wants to use chemistry to ensure people have fun.

Tilly is a decent old woman who reached a level of stress that demanded she defend herself. According to the old saying: When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

Bad acting, bad story, "Pudmuh" is a privileged brat
19 December 2022
Bad acting, bad story, "Pudmuh" is a privileged brat. Even though The Resident has been on a noticeable and steep decline for a while, this episode showed how bad the story is and how bad the acting is. It is artificial almost to the point of parody. The characters of Gigi and Cade, although not important, are among the most artificial of all.

Pudmuh had such a privileged life that she had to invent problems for herself. Even as an adult, she is never held accountable for her irresponsible behavior and somehow has several people ready to run to aid and comfort her at a moment's notice. That is not enough for her, however, so she has to imagine herself having problems. She is empty, self-centered, selfish, and ridiculously irresponsible.

The generally interesting theme is reduced in quality by weak moments
1 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The generally interesting theme is reduced in quality by weak moments, some of which seem cartoonish.

It is good to think of issues beyond cliched ideas of good and evil and to have a character (Charles) who sees purpose in his work regardless of the people thinking (at least initially) that the result is evil.

There is a general lack of coherence and Charles' predictive ability is ridiculously overpowered, as if he sometimes is parody of a villain/amoral actor. Cowles is a weak, ridiculously stereotyped character.

The weak moments are VERY distracting. The car chase scenes (mostly featuring Cowles) are not even worthy of a childish action movie. The clear, slow motion of a hollow point bullet going directly through a man's body with no change in its structure is something that should only be seen in a cartoon.

Pudmuh realized caring for babies is "hard"
23 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Pudmuh realized caring for babies is "hard." "This is hard," she said. It only took a little crying from twins to cause her to feel unable to handle the situation. Her vain, frivolous fertility plan led to that exact situation, but it is doubtful she will take the time to reflect on her vanity and frivolity.

The ridiculous dolls used for the babies might get viewers' attention, but in a negative way. Ugly and pathetic. Surely more effort could have been made. Optimistically, it could be hoped the dolls are a metaphor for the fake and pathetic personality of Pudmuh, as well as those who coddle her.

Fun times
22 November 2022
Fun times watching a reasonably fast-paced movie with a little suspense now and then. Trauma will follow you for your entire life and it is quite possible your trauma will impact others around you.

It is common for a movie to feature zero likable characters, but it actually worked here. People got to experience the result of their unresolved trauma.

It is likely the most realistic part is that traumatized people faced stigma by others, a complete lack of support from those closest, and a lack of help from medical personnel. Obviously, those issues mirror exactly what commonly occurs in society.

Ridiculously weak
11 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Ridiculously weak episode that purposely avoids realism, probably to promote a tired, false socio-political narrative. Rita was in no way helpless or required to endure Paul's nonsense, unless she lied about their being a restraining order (which seems unlikely). Paul would have been arrested upon approaching her.

Deb's histrionics ruined the flow
11 August 2022
Deb's histrionics ruined the flow of this episode. She is the equivalent of a low-IQ, impulsive child who has an inability to consider matters related to truth, curiosity, or anyone else's point of view. Instead of a discussion, she shouts and causes needless drama.

17 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is the weakest filler episode of Season 9. It seems there was an attempt to add some depth to the shallow and vapid Atwater by making him gullible and overly simpy/sympathetic to a con artist. It did not work.

An attention seeker got what she wanted
24 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
An attention seeker got what she wanted: Katie had a reasonably large audience and she fell from the roof. Typical mia. A middle class girl with an easy life--except for strange, argumentative parents giving her first world problems--thought vomiting and trying to frighten people would make her have a fairy tale life.

James' parents needed an intervention. It was surprising how proud they were that they sat their smoking in front of their little grandson, probably in an attempt to make him ill. They encouraged the boy's mother to smoke in front of the boy as well. They were no better than any heroin addict.

"White" is purposely misleading in the episode title
14 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
"White" is purposely misleading in the episode title. Liz often was able to make connections with the men involved due to her being ethnically Jewish. Some--like Rosan--share her ethnicity and some--like Shultz--dedicated their careers to the Jewish people. Give some credit.

It now is established there are no likable people involved
13 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It now is established there are no likable people involved in the story. Aside from the obvious issue of Liz being a scammer and Sunny being portrayed as creepy, some minor characters were portrayed in a way that captured what is thought about them. For example: Everyone knows Larry Ellison is an overrated dbag, but this episode showed him as he is imagined by his critics.

The problem with the episode is that is appears--at least at this point--to be attempting to make Liz a sympathetic young woman who was far too hopeful for her own good (instead of the scammer she is).

A good start but a weak ending
28 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A good start but a weak ending. Hailey's do-gooding went wrong, which gave an interesting (by PD's standard) perspective. The later scene of struggling with the criminal and having to save him (again) was weak and unimaginative.

It is tiresome that an old, worn out cop like Hailey is depicted as overpowering an aggressive male who is willing to assault, rape, and murder. It is ridiculous that he again fell into water unconscious and drowning, for Hailey to save. A little more effort at writing could have made it a good episode.

Great camera work but miserable narration
28 February 2022
Great camera work but miserable narration. The sappy, syrupy, melodramatic narration gives the impression of an old weirdo trying to impress boys by emphasizing that he studied literature. It has no place in a documentary about cheetahs.

Nonsense without being funny. As someone mentioned below, it seems to be "a failed attempt at a parody of medieval period pictures." A failed attempt at parody, indeed, such that there is nothing of value.

Long, incoherent, and unfocused. Uninteresting dialog replaced action. A little effort could have made the movie much better, such as something to make the characters interesting (within the movie).

Mia movie
12 February 2022
You can avoid if you do not like vomiting being featured or do not like incoherent movies.

It probably is aimed at American females who think they have "disordered eating" despite not having a diagnosis.

Notable line: "Do you suffer from acid reflux?" Self-inflicted acid reflux could be one way of looking at it.
