Miss Potter ist ein Film über die Illustratorin und Kinderbuchautorin Beatrix Potter. Sie war mit Anfang 30 noch unverheiratet und lebte bei ihren Eltern. Ihre Leidenschaft ist das Zeichnen und Geschichtenerfinden. Ihr gelingt es tatsächlich ihre Bücher zu veröffentlichen und sie werden schnell ein Erfolg. Ihre Eltern, besonders ihre Mutter nehmen sie jedoch nicht ernst. Bis hierhin gleitet der Film seicht dahin, Beatrix schient eine glückliche Frau zu sein. Somit fehlt allerdings ein Konflikt, der den Film spannend gemacht hätte. Als ihr Verlobter, ihr Verleger (Ewan McGregor) stirbt, wird es kurz traurig, aber sie fängt sich bald wieder und erwirbt ein Haus. Ein Freund aus der Kindheit, den sie wieder trifft scheint Potenzial als neuer Heiratskandidat zu haben. Leider können die normalerweise guten Schauspieler, das seichte Drehbuch nicht retten. Beatix war nicht nur Autorin sondern untersuchte und zeichnete auch Pflanzen, was im Film gar nicht erwähnt wird. Der Film verschenkt so vieles, was interessant gewesen wäre und die Konflikte (mit ihren Eltern, der Männerwelt in Wissenschaft und allgemein) werden abgeschwächt. Details wie dass sie schon als Kind Preise für ihre Zeichnungen gewann, dass sie sich Frösche als Haustiere hält (wenn diese Angaben bei Wikipedia stimmen, wo es eine interessante Biographie über sie gibt) kommen nicht vor. Der Film kann Beatix Potter leider nicht gerecht werden. Somit empfehle ich diesen Film nur, wenn man einen Gute-Laune Film am Samstagmorgen braucht.

The movie is about the author of children's books, Beatrix Potter. She is over thirty, unmarried and still lives with her parents. She succeeds to publish her books and engages with her publisher (Ewan McGregor). Her parents are against the marriage. Until there everything in her life seemed to be fine and I asked myself, what is the movie about, where is the conflict. Then her fiancé dies and the movie gets more serious, but soon she seems to be well again and buys a house and a new man appears. I found the movie quiet dull. The writer seems to never heard about that a story needs a conflict to be entertaining. Good actors cant save a bad script. But what is worse, it does not do justice to Miss Potter. I didn't know anything about her before, but when everything on wikipedia is right about her, she was very interested in Biology, plants and animals, nothing about that in the movie, and there are a lot of interesting details in her life (like winning painting contest as a child), that could have been great in a movie, but none of them are in it here. My recommendation: if you want a feel goof movie on a Saturday morning: watch it, if not: don't.
