You'll never forget this one
21 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I love fantasy, love magic, but abhor violence. This movie has plenty of everything. I don't think anyone prone to keeping their eyes closed during violent scenes will get their money's worth from this one even though the violence is a necessary part of the movie. In saying all of that, I will tell you that this is a movie you won't soon - or ever - get out of your mind. A warning: don't drink too much liquid before or during the movie because you won't want to be leaving the film for even a second to attend to needs that should then arise. You will leave the theater never knowing whether what you saw was what actually happened or was the result of something entirely made up in the little girl's mind. Ivana Baquero who plays Ofelia is outstanding - as are the rest of the cast. If this one doesn't win an award, then there is no justice.

Pink Panther 2006

First off, why all the reruns? Are there NO creative minds left in the movie making business? Or are they all tangled up in making dreary reality films? Steve Martin deserves something original as he is certainly an original talent. Why must we have to go into a movie with the quintessential movie of that title already firmly etched into our mind? The comparison is going to be there, try as you may to squelch it. And in so saying, I will admit this movie isn't bad, it does have the moments and the laughs. But I, for one, am tired of rehash after rehash of previously made movies - most of which can't be improved on. (Witness the hideous remake of Charley and the Chocolate Factory. That will likely be the only movie that Johnny Depp, one of the world's best actors, shouldn't have made and that was almost embarrassing to watch.) And The Pink Panther should have been left the perfect jewel that was created by Peter Sellers.

The Princess Bride

This one could easily become your all-time favorite movie. A film certain to lift your spirits and make you smile, if not outright laugh out loud. Not 'into the kissing stuff'? Neither is the ailing youngster (Fred Savage) who is being read this story by his grandfather (Peter Falk). However, you are certain to be captivated and charmed by the love story that causes exciting adventure after adventure. The casting and acting are perfection personified, with more stars than a summer sky, and with tongue in cheek wit twined throughout, this is a movie you can recommend to young, old and all in between. Very likely the best sword fight ever filmed is in this picture, one you are sure to mesmerized by time after time. Want a movie to just simply enjoy? This is the one!

An African Love Story (1996 TV Movie)

A lovely film
19 February 2006
This film was, indeed, a tender love story between Hume Cronyn, Jessica Tandy, and the wonder of Africa. The love between this aged husband and wife team, Cronyn and Tandy, was touching and their love of Africa was obvious. Absolutely breathtaking scenery and the animal photography was outstanding. Running commentary made to you, the viewer, created a feeling of intimacy, as if you were a part of their expedition and their camp. Well worth watching - and owning if that's possible. I don't know if it's possible to track down a copy of this film or not, but it's worth trying to do so. One of their best. And they had many together.
