Reminiscence (2021)
Small thinking
A sci-fi story with special effects about a dude that has the hots for a red headed clam.
Devs (2020)
Unfortunate haircut
I see a lot of people trashing the main actress, but whoever chose her haircut for this, did her a disservice, and really should be the one to blame. Granted, she is playing a computer developer so it's not like she has to be a knockout, but giving her a pixie cut's version of a pixie cut...what a shame. It feels like it's an attempt to avert the male gaze and every time Hollywood does that, it just makes you feel that the character is standoffish which makes them hard to root for. I actually think she had some decent acting moments in the show.
Unlike that haircut, the show looks really good and along with the music score, gives off a sometimes creepy vibe that I'm digging.
I really like the premise of what is actually going on with the Amaya development team/project. This could get really interesting, but I do agree that they could move it along a bit.
Anyway, I know it sounds like a negative review, but I think this could get really interesting if they hone in on the Amaya stuff more, and I mostly took off stars just for that "sensible" haircut.
Baskets: Circus (2017)
Holy Crap!
Is that the circus tent set from Big Top Pewee?! If so, this show is on another level! Love it!
Hunters (2020)
Trash
Couldn't make it all the way through ep 3. Had to stop. Such a divisive show.
S.W.A.T.: Encore (2019)
Colin Kaepernick!
Imagine my surprise when they pulled the mask off the last criminal and it was Colin Kaepernick, not just taking one, but two knees!!! Fight the power!!
1st Summoning (2018)
The crackling!!!!
I like found footage and forgive a lot of stuff normally. I don't expect the lighting to be great and the sound to be perfect. The acting just has to be better than student film acting and if they can pull off some scares, then it normally wins me over. But man, how did they put this out with those sound issues? Every time the camera was moving, there was a crackling noise. Were they using an empty Cheetos bag as a windscreen for the microphone? It was so distracting. Was going to give it a 7 but that noise issue dropped it down a whole 3 points for me. And if I were a hyper vigilant person, it probably would have dropped it to a 1.
The Hot Zone: Arrival (2019)
We need to keep these monkeys cold.
I had to laugh a little. Towards the end when Jaxx meets up with the monkey guy who has bags of monkeys in the trunk of her car, she gets upset because the monkeys are in plastic bags and not contained in coolers in ice. That means they need to rush to a site and get them on ice. While she is expressing her concern over that, you can see over her shoulder a sign that says "Market" and people filling up their cars with gas, so they really had ice and coolers just feet away for purchase. I know that's a little nitpicky. I actually gave the 6 out of ten because it was well enough acted I guess and an interesting story. Still had that cheesy cable channel feel to it. One of the signs of cheese is when they have the protagonist prove how smart they are by dialogue with others who are over the top stupid or antagonistic. The two parts that struck me was when Jaxx was introducing that soldier to level 4 and he was all "uhhhh, ummm, uhhhh". It's like they had to make him so scared and not professional to make her seem all the more confident. And then the Topher Grace character. They show signs of him knowing that there are risks like right after he smells what's in the beaker or when he stares at the beer glass that the waitress takes away, but he just still has to be obstinate for the sake of it.
