One Missed Call (2008)
"The Ring" meets "The Grudge"--Seriously...
This movie was average at its best.
Its premise is that there is a story of a women who has two children, both of whom are girls, and one is basically the quote, unquote "bad one" and the other is the good girl. The bad girl tries many ways to hurt her sister, thus making her mom to take sides and leaving the "bad girl" behind, in a closed room, to have an asthma attack.
Both the mother and the "good daughter" were in a hospital, when it caught on fire and the mother died, yet the little girl survived. For the entire movie they are trying to trace the calls back to the source to see where they are coming from and how they started.
So that is basically what it is about in a nutshell. The movie itself has so many other attributes to the plot, that it could take me awhile to explain. But as for the movie itself, my title explains it all. All of the so called "monsters" all look like the demons that we have seen in the ring. Also all the phone calls that the victems get with a future date and time of death is basically the premise that the Ring had.
The movie overall, to put it simply, was pretty bad. It had the clichéd scary movie attributes about it. ie.(loud noises,"spooky faces" and a very predictable plot) Nothing here was very shocking or gut-wrenching, but it did have it's good moments. The movie basically starts off pretty slow, even though you witness your first death pretty soon into the movie. The middle of the film was pretty good, it kept you on the edge of your seat for a bit, and towards the end, it got back to its low points.
Since the movie is PG-13 there is seriously very little blood, which is pretty upsetting. Most of these deaths would call for blood in real life, but very little is present. So that was a bummer. But other than that, if you have to pay for it, I wouldn't. But if you have a buddy that can get you in for free or something, do that instead.
5/10
Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs (2007)
Superb!
Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs is probably one of the best IMAX movies I've ever seen. The entire film portrays the beauty of Egypt with High definition like Excellence. The story line was excellent and the scientific nature of the film was a nice added touch. I would like to say the producers and Director of the film did a phenomenal job. The movie itself is centered around Ramses the great. They go back into Egypt's historical past to show you how they lived and prospered. It also goes into great detail on how scientist are trying the find where the DNA lies within a mummies body to track more history from the past.
All in all, it was a magnificent film! I know a lot of people wont see an IMAX Film if they are not in the 3D, but Some people seriously just need to bypass the vagueness and hop on board and watch this flick! You definitely will not be disappointed!
Over the Hedge (2006)
Absolutely Amazing! Best animated film since Finding Nemo!
This movie was beyond excellent. Probably th best animated film I have seen since finding Nemo. Over the hedge has all the pizazz that you could ever want in an animated film. Great plot, great characters, and very clever animation. It was very funny, and controlled its humor in a very family matter, so kids of all ages could go see it, and still laugh! I would recommend this film to anyone! It's definitely worth the money! The voices of the characters that were played by a wide range of celebrities fit the critters perfectly. None of the voices seemed off, and everything was on key. The only downside to the movie is that I seriously wish that it was a bit longer. But it is a children's animated film. You can't really expect it to be over 1hr and 30 minutes anyway. But like I said before, It is definitely worth your money and I have doubt that the family will enjoy it.
