Windfall (2022)
If it was directed by Tarentino, everyone would rate it higher
The film is beautifully realistic in it's apprehension to glamorise human bonds. The lack of relationship drives the narrative so well.
The music and cinematography is delicately nuanced, but meaningful to the story. A really interesting take on choice, and how it changes according to opportunity.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Critics are Kak
They Don't Look Up. They're in denial. The critics, that is.
This is a film that hasn't been done before. It's poignant and on the nose - about all that is ignorant about humanity.
A film, and a stellar cast, that takes the piss out of themselves. What's not to enjoy?!
The Unforgivable (2021)
The Less Interesting Approach
The more interesting approach would have been to tell the story of someone truly guilty, and their struggle to build up trust in society.
Still, a brilliant portrayal of a traumatised woman with great burdens to bare, by Sandra Bullock.
Pieces of a Woman (2020)
Raw and authentic
The beauty of the film is in its subtext. Everything you need to know is not said but shown. And therein lies the humanity of the story and its characters.
A Hidden Life (2019)
A Hidden Heart
Beautifully made. Artfully told. A Haunting story with a personal narrative that hasn't yet been told in terms of World War Two and the Holocaust.
Jenny's Wedding (2015)
Don't Bother
This movie is probably the worst I've ever seen. In saying so, I won't waste too much time by expanding, but I will say this - the editing made fairly good actors seems below average, and every other aspect of the film is like drinking watered down milk. Just don't bother.
Us (2019)
How?
All I can say is, I'm baffled at how highly rated this movie is.
Midway (2019)
Just Another War Movie
Although historically accurate and wonderfully graphic, the film lacks fully-dimensional characterisation which ultimately leads to the viewer just not caring too much.
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
A film for Queen lovers and queens
I've read the critic reviews and really, that's just who they are - critics. I doubt very much that they can find enjoyment in much of anything. Although I do think that the film itself has a strange plot development, I found myself in awe of the genius of Queen. And of course, the genius of Rami Malek's exquisite performance. The other actors did a stellar job as well - they perfectly complimented such a drastic performance from Malek, by forefitting overacting and simply just BEING. They were, for me, the silent heroes of the film - you see only the characters, without giving much thought to the actors themselves.
The film felt a little fragmented to me, but the performance in every aspect, was a wonderful tribute not only to Queen and to Freddie, but to the eccentric, and the misfits.
Oh and the music is of course, just delightful.
Step Up Revolution (2012)
It's a dance film, ok
The film isn't cinematically brilliant. The storyline isn't unique and the actors certainly won't win oscars, but it's a dance film, and the dancing is exquisite.
