why all these directors tried to paint a distorted society?
2 May 2006
When I heard that this director was brought up in Europe but persist on picturing Chinese stuff, I was worrying about the reality of the film. I feel sad when I saw the film and I left after 20 minutes. Why don't all these directors picture something real and use more realistic story and sense? I hate this one as much as those films by Zhang Yimou. They all tried to cater to the western idea of China. Set the story in the remote areas and create a false sense of exotic. Even with the controversial topics, it is more radical in the city and in the 21th century. What is the different of this film with an erotic film? The two girls fall in love with no apparent reasons. The professor is rigid like a dictator and the young man is ....

a bloody story of conflicts between ethical groups
18 April 2006
It seems that not many people have seen this film. It is shown on a few cinemas in France. The story is about Kurt and Turky conflicts in German. Somebody may feel it nasty because of the bloody scenes and the hate between those two ethical groups. However, I feel very sorrow for them. I was once a immigrant in a totally new environment and I feel uneasy and face a lot of problems, (luckily not as much as those on the screen). When you are the minority and all your fellows stick to the historical hostile towards another minority group, it is very hard for an individual to exit the doomed tragedy. The film evoke two basic questions faced by a lot of newcomers: is this rich country better than the poor hometown? & Can we forget the past in the new world?

different from American counterpart
13 April 2006
I have seen a lot of American special force type film. The french apparently don't agree with their style. Those French guy are not good at shooting, not good at fighting, with no special equipment, no special skills... However, French inspectors are more human liking. They talk and walk like real man. They go around without knowing exactly what they are looking for. But they are more lovely than the US counterparts. They have pride and confidence on themselves and they show it proudly. They even insulted normal police force by their attitude. I had never seen the TV serials on which this film based. The inspectors are cool, the criminals are malicious and strong. The music is great, I just can not forget the rhythm for some time.

boring dancing show
30 March 2006
What a boring dancing film! Don't expect fairy-tales. It is simple a serials of modern dancing. All actors are null and without life. It seems that dancing is the only active elements in the film. The princess dances for 1/3 of film; the painter danced with her; the 3 prince from remote country bring dancing group to perform in the castle. And they are performing modern dancing in the environment of middle ages! The plot is too simple even for fairy tales. The king is simple stupid. The queen is simple kind. The minister is simple weird. The young prince is simple naive. The princes from remote countries simply want to marry the princess. The princess simply want to dance! The set is also crazy. Trees and grasses are blue, and there are spotlight on dancers in the castle, just like a modern theater. Why not build some balcony?

not as good as the French original
25 March 2006
I was aware of the fact that it is a remake of the French film "L'apartment" from the 5th minutes. The plot is exact and the scenes are similar. It is a pleasant film and make my wife happy, however, it is far from as good as the French original. As I remembered, although quite a long time ago, the red color was a strong clue in the French film, or the actress's acting is more powerful in the French one? This American one only presents romance but lacks the emotion and power presented in the original film. I don't like the ending of airport. I can not remember exactly, but I suppose the French film stops at the park and maybe will a remote glance. The extra explanation to his rich-girlfriend make him looked weaker than ever and is a waste of time. By the way, the apartment is not a charming as the French one, same is the hotel they meet.

warm and beautiful
9 March 2006
A story about the adopted child in France farmer's family. A warm reminder of my childhood, maybe also yours. There is not much conflict between the child and the parent, the focus is on the feeling of a child in a strange environment and his boyish reaction. There are not much talks. That makes me feel easy (Not a good French speaker viewing a French film with no sub-title!) The mutual understanding is reached by a lot of glances between the parents and the child. The child has his own quietness and charm, which very similar to the farmers. I think that is the reason you find harmony between them. Not many films would give you the same peace in mind in the numerous selections of films. Overall a relaxing and comfortable film, which is good for everybody.

that is not a real Chinese film
23 February 2006
Warning: Spoilers
If you did not see the film, better not. If you did, I suggest you see another short slip TV show called "A bloody murder which is the result of a bread 20 years ago" on the net. It re-cuts the material of "Wu Ji" in a funny way and ironically discussed the impossibility and stupidity of film. This young man who did the show on himself was sued by Kaige Chen, who was criticized again for his intolerance to critique, on top of his failure of the film. Most of my Chinese friends has called this film as "Wu Liao Zhi Ji", which means "boring to extreme". It was also shown in the TV show as "Wu Ji"= KG Chen*"Wu Liao"*2, which mocks the interpretation of e=mc*2 by Kaige Chen. After all, Kaige Chen has gone too far from the essence of filming. Maybe he really believe that CGI and famous actors are all. Don't think of it as a Chinese film. It is a shameful thing.
