Are We There Yet? (2005)
For those who like bratty children
I remember seeing this film in theaters back in 2005. Back then, my family loved it - we even owned it on DVD. However, I hadn't seen it since then. So now, in 2019 - 14 years later - with nothing on TV late on night, I decided to watch it. Boy was I sorry. I didn't realize that 99% of the flick consisted of bratty, smart-aleck kids attempting to derail their mother's relationship with Nick, the guy she met on the side of the road (Ice Cube). The Side Table Drawer from Blue's Clues had become intolerable - one more comment from her and I was going to shut it down. Luckily, the kids' attitudes changed and they began to form a bond with Nick, only to find out that the mother was ungrateful for the major favor he performed by delivering her kids all the way to Vancouver free of charge. Definitely not something to waste your time on. And how did that talking bobblehead make its way into the film?
Peter Pan Live! (2014)
Laughable
Absolutely the worst live broadcast to date. Very awkward. A disgrace to the work of Barrie, Charlap, and Styne. For those not familiar with this musical, do yourself a favor and watch either the Mary Martin or Cathy Rigby productions. And what's with all the political correctness? To make changes to the work of another is a great insult.
A Christmas Story Live! (2017)
Absolutely Horrendous
The only redeeming aspect of this live production was the set. Other than that, I would rather be forced to wear a pink bunny suit for the rest of my life than to watch this horrific train wreck. First, I was not a fan at all of the original Broadway production. This production not only brings the same torture as the original musical but adds to it, with new songs, a Jewish Schwartz, and a fight between the parents that leaves the mom spending part of the night at a neighbor's house- what's up with that? I consider this adaptation to be an insult to all who were involved with the original 1983 film. The humor and nostalgia were replaced with sappy, feel-good, heat-warming nonsense that attempted to give the characters an unneeded sense of warmth and sweetness. What was wrong with the zany mom, the ornery old dad, and the broken leg lamp? Save yourself - it's not worth it.
