The Mandalorian: Chapter 4: Sanctuary (2019)
Best episode yet!
Chapter 4 was a really really good break from the markets and desert lands that have previously been shown in The Mandalorian. It felt like a breath of fresh air as the cinematography was superb and the VFX keep being beyond anything I would've expected from a TV show. The story itself did seem a little bit filler, but that is perfectly fine in the grand scheme of things. It was a fun trip and left me waiting for more.
The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D (2005)
Best movie in existence!
Don't say you like the anime until you've read the manga
Captain Marvel (2019)
Great, fresh, inticing Marvel movie
Captain Marvel has been targeted with so much hate recently by angry conservatives who haven't even seen the movie, it's insane. I wanted to write my own review to set things straight.
This movie was actually quite different than most Marvel movies. Somehow it felt new and fresh, and it was a break from the typical superhero movie.
Going into the movie, I was a bit suspicious of the acting by Brie Larson, since I agreed with most who said she kept the same exact expression in the trailers and didn't look like she was acting at all. I was very oleasently surprised by her acting, as it could not be more different from my expectations.
The story was really well thought-out. Super Marvel fans will love this movie because it gives so much background on what happened in the 1990s and introduces yet another core aspect of the MCU. Non-marvel fans and typical moviegoers will love this movie because it was just a great story with incredible acting and CGI.
Mary Poppins Returns (2018)
Expect a great standalone sequel, not a remake of the original
This movie was actually really, really good. I might even go as far as to say it was on par or better than the beloved original Mary Poppins.
I felt this movie was not done justice in the trailers and advertising. I was looking forward to seeing this movie for sure, but I wasn't crazy about it because the trailers looked just okay. I was actually proven very wrong though. The movie started out okay, and kept getting better and better and better until the, in my opinion, perfect ending.
I've read some of the other reviews on here, and they seem to be divided into two groups: one group that saw this movie as a great, modern extension of the Mary Poppins world, and one group that was expecting a complete remake of the old Mary Poppins and clearly disappointed.
If you go into the theatre thinking that this movie is going to be almost identical to the original, you will be disappointed because it was not in the slightest. The only thing in my opinion that this movie kept from the original was the broad, overarching idea and the names of the chearcters. Everyone was recast in this movie, and it gave the movie a fresh new look (I might add that Emily Blunt did an amazing job with Mary Poppins; I was worried that she wouldn't be up to par, but she actually played her very well). The songs were very well done and all-new. Everything about this movie was modern and well done.
Finally, the ending just made me leave the theatre with a really good feeling. I would definitely be happy to see it again and buy it on Blu-Ray when it comes out.
