Narcissism
2 October 2023
I saw this in 1981 and it left me not being impressed and/or enlightened, but feeling in my mid-western way, I was lacking in some way. Not so - flash forward to 2023.

Wally is the one who is worth relating to, while Andre is a narcissistic, Holocaust-obsessed, insane person. It sounds like he has been doing psilocybin.

I wouldn't be surprised to find his wife exists only on a banana label and his caretakers will arrive at any minute to escort him back to "Happydale." Like another reviewer mentioned, Poland was still behind the Iron Curtin & traveling so freely to all these off-limits countries simply did not happen. And all these wealthy, geniuses he just happens to bump into and have such in-depth conversations with - are they real or one of figures that pops out of his mouth or appears during Christmas Mass or some other social event? Dealing with everyday reality it something his guy simply cannot handle.

The Hammer (2023)

Really Enjoyed This
29 August 2023
Like other reviewers, I certainly hope there will be more Hammer movies or a series to enjoy. There certainly are more story angles to explore; the father, Cartwell & his solar venture, plus his Silicon Valley history,Kim's sister & her history and of course, her office staff. I thought the story was well-written & well-told. The scenery was a treat and the story line good. Surely, the Honorable Kim Wanker, whose career inspired this movie, has more experiences to explore. And, what a cherry atop the sundae to be treated to Reba's excellent voice in the final scene. Please, Lifetime, give us more Kim Wheeler.

Cash McCall (1960)

What a Difference a Few Decades Make
21 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I dropped my rating from 7 to 4 today after watching Cash McCall for the first time in many years. Younger me really liked this movie, but this 1960 film just does not stand the test of time. The story line and chemistry between to two leads is stilted & artificial. For instance, why would Lori feel Cash had "cheapened" her when he protected her virtue. Sending her home and not taking advantage of a situation when he discovers her in the nude in his living room, is not the action of a philanderer. When it comes to the business dealings between McCall & Austen where are the lawyers, the contracts, the dotting of i's, the crossing of t's. It's a wonder Austen hadn't lost his shirt years before. I can't imagine anyone who had spent years building a very successful business would be so cavalier about the sale of his life's work. James Garner, Natalie Wood & Dean Jagger were wonderful actors. It's too bad the script & probably the direction failed them.

Thank You!

Really enjoyed this. It was engaging & nicely written. It was not the usual Hallmark formula and I think it gave Niall Matter a chance to really shine & stretch his talent.

One Word Says It All ...
11 December 2021
... and, that word is OVERACTED!

The idea of this movie is cute, but the reality is not so cute and the acting is way over the top. It definitely needed to be dialed back from about 15 to 2. Too much storyline for this ensemble to handle - it just doesn't work.

Loved this Show Until the 2021 Season
17 July 2021
I really enjoyed Virgin River until the current season. I just finished watching Episode 6 & all this "waa, waa" baby talk is on my very last nerve! Don't know if I can stand several more episodes of "tick tock, tick tock." Doesn't the all-knowing Melinda understand Jack has more than he can handle with "needy" Charmaine, her controlling boyfriend, the "oops" twins, PTSD and an attempted murder? Pushing a personal agenda doesn't often work out in the "unicorn & rainbow" way the dreamer dreams of.

Who's the Immature One?
21 May 2021
The Elisa Donovan character tells the husband whom she refuses to divorce, he needs to grow up; yet she harbors a petty high school jealousy for the girl who beat her out of h.s. Drama role and talks down to the diner owner (also a h.s. Friend). She is so self-absorbed, she hasn't been home in 6 years, she throws childish fits in front of the judge who is deciding the custody of the couple's 9 or 10-year-old daughter & even tries to compromise the judge on the street (can you say stalking). And, oh yes, misses important business deadlines and teleconferences she has sworn up and down she would meet when she knows she up for an EVP position at her bank. I definitely want this broad on my team. Not.

He certainly shares responsibility for not traveling to NY to visit, but when it comes to maturity - he's got her beat.

Worthless & Inaccurate
20 March 2021
This thing is worthless & historically misleading. Do yourself a favor & skip to final episode, if you really want to know the entire story. Not quite sure why anyone would waste their time, but I did and I am angry with myself for doing it. I will not be wasting my time on the next season.

This is What Happens....

This is what happens when you allow the all too human traits of ego, greed & avarice to blind you. Riveting! Well worth watching & studying.

Cute Movie!!
10 February 2021
This is just a real cute movie, especially on a drab, frigid winter's day. Kay Francis sparkles and her wardrobe, is as ever, beautiful. George Brent is bright & breezy and seems to be giving the audience inclusive, knowing wink. It's a fun way to spend an hour.

I Agree
29 November 2020
Other reviewers are calling this refreshing and funny. I Agree. I don't know if it's the writing, directing or both, but this season's Hallmark holiday movies have come up a few rungs. Kudos. I would also like to add, I have seen Paula Shaw ("Margo") in other Hallmark movies & she was always solid, but in this offering, she is allowed to truly shine.

I have treasured this film, since I first saw it in the theatre when it was first released. It is a treasure. I do not know why we do not see it broadcast more often.

I Love It

This movie has been one of my secret pleasures for nearly 40 years. The characters are charming & endearing. The story-line is off beat & addictive. It makes you smile when you are having a dreary day.

Don't know if it's the direction or the acting, but could the lead actress overact a little more? I don't think so. :-(

She's An Idiot

Who goes on any writing assignment without doing a little research and preparation first? This gal had never even heard the term "glamping!" And, she was afraid she might be thought of as "shallow." How about brainless.
